Stuart Leathem, the composer, was featured on Dublin radio this week on a talk show.
Part of the discussion focused on his pastiche of Freddie's vocals that ended up as a piece called Nobody Understands Me which attracted quite a lot of attention.
Stuart talked at length about his admiration for Queen and especially their colletive strength towards the end of Freddie's life.
"A few weeks ago I attended a concert in the Casino Hall in Montreux and all I could think about was how Innuendo must have sounded being belted out live in that exact room! Its amazing to think that after their touring stopped in 1986 they continued to set up as a live band in that hall and bash out some of their finest tunes in the post Magic era. Freddie's voice reached unparellelled levels in that era."
Stuart was then challenged about his Freddie tune and the fact that some fans maybe didn't like it at all...........
"Fair enough! Queen were a fabulous band and their original arrangements will never be surpassed, although I like what they have done on their new tour with some old tracks, Roger Taylor's drum pattern on Tie Your Mother Down has slightly changed and it sounds unbelievable! I have composed various different arrangements of Nobody Understands Me, in fact I think there are about 5 in all! I put quite a dis-jointed version on the site but we still got all sorts of lovely messages from fans thanking us for putting it out there. Maybe we'll put on the others as free downloads too, they are all very different. That would depend on demand though! The last thing I want to do is offend fans of Queen. It's just a bit of fun!"
A nice interview actually! Seems a good bloke!
98Fm must have changed their night-time schedule. The last time I tuned in there was late-night drivel on it (after 1am).
What time was this show on at ?
Reading about that hall that Queen played in live (rehearsing mind), so much in their last years, it reminds me... I wished my question about studio chat and non-studio song recordings was answered.
Wouldn't it be great to hear them just jammin away?
Peace,
Adam.
P.S. Nice little remix on his site. Pretty cool.
