I have always wondered why at Live Aid, Freddie & Brian performed ''Is This The World We Created'' separately and at a different time than with/from Queen.
Per Bob Geldof's Official Live Aid Website, link
...Queen came on and performed at:
''Queen (introduced by comedians Mel Smith and Grf Rhys Jones) (W 18:44)''
..Here's the exact time that Freddie & Brian performed ITTWWC.
''Freddie Mercury & Brian May (W 21:48)''
I have never heard anyone say why Freddie & Brian chose to perform ITTWWC, separately from Queen's set.
Anyone know why?
John was already late getting back to his holiday and couldn't delay his leaving one minute longer. Roger had seen this really hot chick in the 3rd row and was nowhere to be found at the time.
The purpose was twofold, from what I have read;
1.) The song is indeed beautiful, and very much fit into the perspective of the event. "So many mouths to feed..." etc...if it hadn't been written in 1984, a year before anyone even KNEW of Live Aid, one would think it was written specifically for the event. Pluse, Queen were big stars at the time and it was fitting they'd have a hand in the closing.
2.) The low-maintenance acoustic sets allowed for mroe maneuverability of the technicians and stagehands who were setting up for McCartney without letting the audience go too long without a performance. This was done several times during the show, I'm pretty sure I read.
^ Yeah, that's exactly what I read, too. And since that was mainly the song that made Bob Geldof consider Queen for Live Aid, it makes sense that they'd perform it somewhere, just maybe not in their main set that was primarily as many rocking songs as they could fit in. A low-key acoustic song right in the middle of their twenty minutes probably won't have fit in right, but it was perfect for in-between artists (and because Roger and John weren't really needed for acoustic performances, so it wouldn't make sense to be in their main set because they'd be sitting there with nothing to play).

I dunno why, but in my choice when you see the concert (and my dad thinks the same way) when you hear a song as beautiful as that one, you have to close with one of the same style. When we (dad, sis and I) watched Live Aid for the first time, we heard ITTWWC and my dad said: "I bet you that the one closing is Macca" and it turned out he was right. It was the first time both were watching the concert and went nuts to see that closing :D.
I agree totally. The theme of the song is just so...I dunno, fitting,for the concert. And they did such a beautiful job at it too!
