Here's a bit of trivia for ya: The 1986 film "Troll" (and what a masterpiece) features characters named Harry Potter and Harry Potter Jr., years before the books ever appeared. |
Jjeroen 03.08.2005 09:52 |
Ah, yes! I knew it! Dear Kevvie, for years I'd want to stick that broom of his there where the sun don't shine. I hear Potter has been into girls lately? Traitor... (And yes, I feel the same about our president :-S) |

I've never seen one Harry Potter movie or read one of the books. I'm not interested. |

What I say was so awful...(Kikyo must be closet Trekkie)... just kidding. As William Shatner once said on an episode of ''Saturday Night Live'' on a skit making fun of Trekkies where he was supposed to be at a fan convention and the fans actually believed William Shatner was NOT an actor but actually was Captain Kirk...a real life person...as he yelled to the Trekkies... ''GET A LIFE''!!!! |

I didn't start this thread, and I'm just having fun with the cult of it all. And as a FOURTY FOUR year old Queen fan, I also ragged on the Stepford Queen wackos on a recent thread about them as well. ....For your reading pleasure, please read this thread.... link And as Mr. Spock would say...Humans...Irrational and Illogical. Banquo 06.08.2005 05:22 |
My nephews and niece would rather have pickled themselves than pick up a book to read for pleasure. When the Half-Blood Prince came out their parents had to buy three copies to keep them happy. If it gets them reading I'm all for it. They are now discovering Roald Dahl, Terry Pratchet and even Charles Dickens. JK Rowling has done a lot in getting youngsters to read again and get them off the games consoles and to the library. |
YourValentine 06.08.2005 07:27 |
I agree, Banquo. It's a childrens book and as such it's surely good. When adults read childrens books and don't like them, it's not the fault of the book:) |

well... I can't say I hate Harry Potter, he never affected directly my life (as in killing me, stealing my man, etc.), but I can't say I like him. I just chose to ignore anything that has to do with HP, or The lord of the Rings... |

spymyshadow wrote: A bunch of pointless wizardy in the book and a sad mockery of the sacred lord of the rings in the movie version. The only thing that I found in common between Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings is that both have giant spiders. |
spymyshadow 17.08.2005 12:42 |
And what about that tall dark hooded shadows hunting F F. Potter and looking suspiciously like the nazgul? And that giant eagle rode by dunnowho with that long grey beard? A bit too similar to Gwahir don't you think? And a lot things more if I had ever taken the pain to see that crap, dear! |
Mr.Jingles 17.08.2005 12:51 |
Oh please!! Both Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings have taken fantasy elements from other stories that have been written for centuries. Do you really think that Tolkien was the first person who came up with all that medieval background for a book? I seriously doubt that he was the first one to come with weird looking creatures, wizards, evil faceless characters wearing hoods, and sword fights. Neither Rowling or Tolkien are 100% original when it comes to concept of stories, but they sure deserve their credit for re-inventing these elements and making them take part in a whole new story of their own. |
