I know that quite a few Queen songs have had their multitracks taken from magnetic tape and stored on computer for recent stereo packages and digital remastering. Now my question is, how can I get copies of the separate tracks. I don't care which songs, I'll take anything. Do they sell these or are they in the realm of bootleg-exclusive? On the Greatest Video Hits I, I heard some of the tracks for Bohemian Rhapsody and I just had to have them. Let me know if there's anything available. Thanks.
The DVD releases are the only place you're going to find them I'm afraid. Sadly, they're not pure isolated tracks and they don't even use all of the channels. But that's all there is..
The only direct person who would be allowed to send the tape files (which I can tell you won't happen outside of the professional circle - in other words, fans cannot have access to the tapes) upon authorization would be Justin Shirley-Smith, who handles a lot of the duties with the tapes and disks these days, since he is Queen's current producer and mixer.
Also, the closest you could get to having a multitracked source of any of the songs by Queen is if you were lucky enough to locate one or any of the missing/stolen multitrack tapes.
Like I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am trying to help Queen, Justin and Greg Brooks locate the missing tape for "Staying Power"...so far, they haven't properly talked to the person I named in my e-mails yet.
a friend of mine studies at a music recording school and they were given all the seperate tracks for bohemian rhapsody to mess about with in digital recording packages. no idea how they were obtained but it's quite cool :-)
Don't think such things exist commercially or as a bootleg.. Remember you are talking here about the isolated music tracks which are raw material, and no artist nor Record label are interested in making such things available for the public to avoid the abuse of the music (such as creation of below-standard unauthorized remixes of original materials)..
