Based on the 2001 Japanese remaster. Other editions, such as the U.S. Hollywood version may have different track points. 01 Flash's Theme / 02 In The Space Capsule - Edits from explosion sound to guitar intro. This gives 02 a fairly clean start but the explosion at the end of 01 is cut off abruptly. 02 In The Space Capsule / 03 Ming's Theme - Not crossfaded but rather edits from one to the other. This again makes 03 have a fairly distinct intro but 02 will cut off at the end when separated. 03 Ming's Theme / 04 The Ring - Close together but 03 ends smooth, 04 starts smooth. 04 The Ring / 05 Football Fight - Quick edit from dialogue at the end of 04 to opening riff of 05. 05 Football Fight / 06 In The Death Cell - Very close together but 05 ends smooth in a fade, 06 starts smooth fading up. 06 In The Death Cell / 07 Execution of Flash - Again, more of an edit from one to the other, just very close together, 06 ending will probably stand alone. 07 Execution of Flash / 08 The Kiss - Smooth end and start, just close together. 08 The Kiss / 09 Arboria - Close on the CD, but this is where the album side change was, so 08 stands alone completely. 09 Arboria / 10 Escape From The Swamp - Close edit from dialogue at end of 09 to track 10. 10 Escape From The Swamp / 11 Flash To The Rescue - Just close together, smooth end and start. 11 Flash To The Rescue / 12 Vultan's Theme - Totally crossfaded, drums continue the same from one to the other. 12 Vultan's Theme / 13 Battle Theme - An edit which is meant to sound like a crossfade. Very rough transition. End of 12 gets cut off, 13 starts rough. 13 Battle Theme / 14 The Wedding March - 13 fades out, 14 starts smooth. Just close together. 14 The Wedding March / 15 Marriage of Dale And Ming - End of 14 is cut off when it edits abruptly to start of 15. 15 Marriage of Dale And Ming / 16 Crash Dive On Mingo City - Another edit which simulates a crossfade but is actually an edit. 15 cuts off, 16 starts rough. 16 Crash Dive On Mingo City / 17 Flash's Theme Reprise - Close together but distinct end of 16 /distinct start of 17. 17 Flash's Theme Reprise / 17 The Hero - Real crossfade with wind sound connecting. |

One way to solve that problem. |

i know i can buy it, but it would be kind of useless to buy a cd for that one reason when you could just ask some one online who already has it? |

What strange logic. It's worth a purchase. |
deleted user 02.08.2005 00:11 |
im going to get it eventually, but i cant purchase it right this minute, and it would be best if i could know as soon as possible |

I'm happy to help with stuff like this actually. Any excuse to access the archives (a toaster oven box) in the vaults (bedroom closet) is most welcome. What exactly do you mean by segue? Based on my info, nearly all of the tracks are very close together, some edit from one to another abruptly, and only two true crossfades exist. I did take the lazy way out as far as providing track names because there's so many and frankly I don't know them all by heart as I do with other albums, but I'll edit the original reply above and add the track names, if that helps. And I'll see if I can clarify my descriptions. |

i think i get it now thanx whirled peas |
deleted user 02.08.2005 00:49 |
but if your still wondering, i meant segue as in things like procession/father to son/white queen or party/khashoggis ship are there still only two of them? |

Only two that are genuine continuous tracks with smooth segues, yes. (or four actual tracks) If we include the rough edits from one track to another, there are more. It gets confusing. Let's say we want to know which tracks will stand alone when taken from the CD by themselves, like for a compilation: 01. Flash's Theme will sort of work, but the explosion at the end will be cut off a bit. It doesn't continue into the next track though, it gets cut off by editing to the next track anyway. 02. In The Space Capsule is the same thing. There's some sounds at the end which will cut off slightly. 03 . Ming's Theme will start a little rough because of the closeness to track 2, but the end will be smooth. 04. The Ring will start smooth but will end abruptly after some dialogue. 05. Football Fight pretty much stands alone. 06. In The Death Cell will pretty much stand alone. End might be a little abrupt. 07. Execution of Flash stands alone ok. 08. The Kiss stands alone. 09. Arboria stands alone, ending after dialogue. 10. Escape From The Swamp will stand alone. 11. Flash To The Rescue will start fine but will cut off at the end because it has a true crossfade into the next track. 12. Vultan's Theme will be rough at the beginning and the end because of the crossfading / editing. 13. Battle Theme starts rough, ends smooth. 14. The Wedding March starts smooth but the ending is cut off. 15. Marriage of Dale And Ming should start ok but will cut off at the end. 16. Crash Dive On Mingo City has a rough start but the end will probably be okay though it's very close to the next track. 17. Flash's Theme Reprise starts fine but a bit of wind sound will cut off at the end. 18. The Hero stands alone fairly well, intro is a little rough because of hearing some wind noise in progress. End is of course smooth since it's the last song :) |

Frankly the album is a mess in terms of production. The bad edits only work because you figure "well that's the way it's supposed to be" but they could have done a much better job putting it together. It's a very short album too, only 35:13 and that's with a ton of dialogue and effects from the movie mixed in, and some themes repeated often. The Hollywood version adds a terribly bad and too long techno remix of Flash's Theme. The nice stand-alone single mix of 'Flash' is only found on 'Greatest Hits'. Though you do get a fun intro on the album version which features dialogue from the movie and works well. "The Hero" is a great song but seems very incomplete here.. after 1:35 it turns into another rehash of Flash's Theme (but with some cool orchestrations). I only recommend this album to fans who really want to have every studio album just to complete their collection. |

okay, this is my last question: the only true segues are flash to the rescue/vultan's theme and flash's theme reprise/the hero? |

Let me ask you, this logic works only with Flash Gordon or do you preffer to know details of each Queen release without having it? |

So if you were buying downloads (or getting them free, whatever) those songs would probably be the roughest to put back together or listen to on their own. Others will still sound rough simply because they cut off badly, but you don't lose a piece of them in next or previous tracks. |

This topic makes me think of something: When is the official ending of 'Execution of Flash' and the official start of 'The kiss'? I ask this because the time runnings are stated differently on the vinyl and on the CD. VINYL: EOF 0:43 TK 2:04 This would mean that TK is starting when the second bell rings. CD: EOF 1:06 TK 1:46 This would mean that TK is staring when the voice starts to sing. grtz JeroenG |

Original UK LP says: EOF - 1:05 Kiss - 1:44 |

the only way to tell how long a certain song is, is to put it into your computer, open realone, and see what it says the ones on the back ive found are often wrong |
JeroenG 03.08.2005 18:35 |
Maybe my real question wasn't really clear. Given the fact that thwo different playing times were given (0:43/2:04 and 1:06/1:46) I am wondering to which song the 'middle part' belongs. Does the part from the bell ringing until the voice starts officially belongs to EOF or TK ? Seeing the tracks skip on the CD would say it belongs to EOF, but musically I tend to say it belongs to TK. BTW, I have the German pressing stating the 0:43/2:04 times. grtz JeroenG |
