Hello my beauties! I was thinking about that, and was wondering how hard it might have been to record Days of our lives for the boys...Knowing that Freddie would be gone in the near future and recording a song with such poignant and meaningful lyrics...I mean, the guys might have shed a few tears, don't you think so? |
luthorn 29.07.2005 22:11 |
Hard it was. Just watch the British Awards from 1990 with Brian almost crying, Roger looking uncomfortable, Freddie moved and John as always not saying a darn thing. |
Mercuryworks 29.07.2005 23:32 |
Of course John must have had a nervous breakdown, Brian was thinking of suicide, Roger was probably crying like hell too. Because they knew that is it Queen is over. Freddie, of course knew he was leaving. But he tried his best to stay around and though immense pain (shown in Headlong video). "No one could even recognize him" Jim Hutton. So every who worked with Freddie knew he was going and of course everyone was sad. |

It was more hard to him to record Mother Love's "I long for peace before I die" line, I guess. Especially before few months of his death. |
nasty_queenie 30.07.2005 03:59 |
I think it would have been terribly upsetting for Brian to record the last verse of Mother Love. |
Perry 30.07.2005 07:24 |
On top of that, if you ever look at Queen getting their award for "Best Group of the 1980's" in 1989, when Brian says "We hope to perform more miracle's for you in 1990 and beyond", he seems to get choked a little bit. |

Does anyone know where I can see this award show online? |

The 1989 was uploaded a couple of days ago. Should be on page 2 or something. |

I bet they were all really sad... It´s almost as if they were beginning to grieve before Freddie had even died... :-( They all knew that was going to be one of their last moments together as a group. |

Everytime this subject comes up it brings tears to my eyes. Between Freddie actually being in both physical and emotional pain...with his illness growing worse.... and Brian, Roger, and John being in emotional pain knowing the end was approaching for Freddie and seeing and feeling what Freddie was going through... ...but also knowing that in a weird way, it was the most significant and meaningful time for the 4 of them as they really cherished and appreciated one another as friends and colleagues and the creative energies they could bring forth in spite or despite all they were going through.. ..to create and record this last poignant not only song and video, but final sentimental meaningful goodbye to one another and their heartfelt goodbye to Freddie and to Queen's fans. Most of you on QZ know this is my favorite Queen song and video and as I have said before what also makes it so special..is that it was not just a piece of commercial commodity..or even another another work of art (both of which it was)... ..,this was as the saying goes NOT just art imitating life...this song..was REAL life..it was their thank you and farewell from Brian, Roger & John to Freddie, From Freddie to them, and from all 4...to us. ..and in actuality, a ''family'' portrait or snapshot of 4 lifelong friends and colleagues together in a bittersweet, happy and sad final moment together doing what they loved...making music. |

Brian and Roger had been talking on interview on TV about how freddie wanted to do something for AIDS after his death...then the interview cut away to the opening chords...and although i already knew the song so well, i wasn't even slightly prepared for what i saw next..... my band, that i'd grown up with, coming to the end of their life as a fourpiece. their charismatic-genius-talisman lead singer - who had captivated me (several times)and millions of others live...was almost eradicated by an unrelenting and incurable illness....the band put on their best bib and tucker for the cameras and faced one final curtain together showing the world their love for each other and their loyalty....and Freddie (god fucking bless him and save him) stole the show one final time - with the quietest, most softly spoken but nonetheless powerful 'i still love you' ...and i couldn't believe it, there before my eyes - he was - GONE !!!! and i blarted - i really did sob my heart out....i'm not ashamed to say it...it really hurt - moreso than the news of his death three weeks earlier....because this ACTUALLY showed how bad his pain got,,,,yes i cried!!! |

as freddie said in 1986 on the stage of wembley stadium. "well stay till together till we fucken well die." he was so so right. that video alone is testment of the love that the band had for each other and us. i bet when brian may sang too much love will kill you at the tribute concert he was thinking of freddie. when i was in highschool i played that video for my english. some people in the class had tears in there eyes not even knowing about freddie. i love this song and it brings tears in my eyes everytime i see the video. |

Arlene and Brenski, Thank you for those beautiful posts. I'm a guy, but that stuff turns me into a marshmallow. |
freesia 01.08.2005 07:41 |
I have to agree with you rockyracoon, both posts were beautifully put, and I really dont think I can add anything of significance other than when I saw the guys at Sheffield, during the video of Freddie during Bo Rhap, I chewed my lips to bits and my mascara went for a burton to boot. I still find the video for No one but you very sad, and the frame that will stay with me always is the one where Freddie snaps his fingers, that is soo Freddie. I think that although most people accept Freddies death, seeing the old Freddie and remembering the pain of his leaving brings back very strong emotions, and perhaps we now realise just how poignant these are the days really was for all concerned. Although it was very emotional at the time, I think now we can look back at it and realise it was far more than that. God bless him. |

If you watch it closely you can see that Brian's about to cry. His voice breaks down. Roger is all tight, if you see all the pics from the afterparty you can see that on most of the pictures Roger looks morbid and angry. No smile just tight lips. |
@ndy38 02.08.2005 05:59 |
Roger, Brian and John never really describe how Freddie was in 1990/91. Showing that it is a touchy and emotional issue to them, and that they don't really want to talk about it. |

His music captured the hearts of many and it's impossible for a true fan not to feel close to him. Tears still come to my eyes when I hear him sing Too Much Love Will Kill Ypu (and I just melt when I see Brian sing it at the Tribute Concert). He will always be a part of us, always alive in his music. Where did I read it...it must have been here, about The Show Must Go On, "it was like Freddie saying as long as you listen to my music, I will live on" It's true! Every high and low note he hits, every strum in Crazy Little Thing Called Love, every key he pounds on the piano, and every charming smile he flashes for a camera, he lives on in spirit. Never truly gone, and never ever forgotten... and you know I mean it and accept it when not a single tear drips....hard to hold, though...okay, i have that lump in my throat... |

This is a great topic, very emotional, I'm a guy too, and right on to the ones who are admitting to being upset. Yeah, I sort of went through my own mourning when I realized after discovering and becoming obsessed with queen, that Freddie was gone, I actually shed a tear while listening to Somebody To Love, because I just couldn't think about it. |

hehe...i was actually writing that post above while listening to Somebody to Love...I had to turn it off so I wouldn't too emotional |

The same can be said of The Show Must Go On... |

I just know that when Greatest Hits 3 comes out and Roger and Brian do the audio commentary for TATDOOL, its going to be hard for me not to choke up when I hear it. |

Hard, but I hope with can see some new stuff... |

BTW, where can you see the No One But You video? |
mc7t 05.08.2005 15:45 |
The first time that i saw TATDOOL video was the day after freddie died...I literally couldn't speak for an hour after. Being a Queen fan since the age of 4 (1974), i felt like my childhood was being ripped away from me. For Freddie to do that video took such courage & bravery. The "I still love you" line at the end can break the hardest of hearts. I think we all realised that something was very wrong from the Brit awards 1990 onwards & hearing TSMGO on the Innuendo cd in Jan 1991 seemed to confirm this. But to make the video showed that the band wanted to say goodbye properly (& yes..i'm dreading the audio commentary on the hits 3 dvd too) Proud to be a lifelong fan! |
