Live Killers by Queen
By any band- Made in Japan by Deep Purple
ps
And I don't like Wembley... Guitar sound is absolutely horrible- no base, too flat...
Live Killers...that's the model of what a live rock concert should sound like IMHO :) The perfectly timed changes between styles of songs, perfectly timed shifts in moods, the crowd interaction, etc. Every rock band should hear that (again IMHO of course!)
It could have been mixed a little better, but the overall energy and excitement seem to come across, because for one thing you can actually *hear* the audience in it.
I hate live music as a general rule, but I must admit I rather enjoy Queen On Fire's "Live At The Bowl". I enjoyed the sound so much that I actually made CDs from the DVD. I wouldn't go so far as to actually purchase the CDs though.
*edited* to remove the paragraph where I somehow ended up discussing Phil Spector.

4. Live magic
gotta agree with you there, live magic seems to be leagues behind the rest, 'tis still worth a mention though
I like them all, but Live Killers are my favorite, just because they played '39 (sadly a rare song in the 80's concerts) and it contains a great guitar solo with an amazing sound. Otherwise, Live At Wembley and Live At The Bowl is also great live-albums that rocks all night long.
Already posted CD-wise...
DVD-wise I guess it would be:
1. Queen on fire - Live at the bowl
2. Live at Wembley Stadium
3. We will rock you
4. We are the champions - Final live in Japan
5. The Freddie Mercury Tribute
VHS-wise:
1. Live at the Rainbow
2. Live in Budapest
3. We will rock you
4. We are the champions - Final live in Japan
5. Live in Japan '82
6. Queen at Wembley
7. The Freddie Mercury Tribute
8. Live in Rio
9. Rare live

my favorite Queen one.......hands down On Fire At The Bowl.....it wasnt cut like Live Killers (well, unless you count about 30 seconds here and there on the CD), and I think it blows away any other Queen live release in terms of sound....
my favorite live cd by any other band? Hmm.....well, if bootlegs count, I would have to with Majestic Symphonies (I think that was the name) by Rush.........if only for the fact that I was there, at that concert in Detroit back in '94 :D
If not that, I guess I'd go with Different Stages by Rush.....and that actually has one song on it from Majestic Symphonies :D
