Don't you think John Deacon's playing on stage became too basic over the years. I think John's playing on stage was great until the jazz tour. From then it went more basic over the years with ''The game tour'' as a low. He was great during the SHA, ANATO, ADATR and NOTW tours. I know the songs on the record changed, they became more simple. But during those first tours he played more extra basslines and it rocked and sounded very full. I can give you some examples :
Tie your mother down : listen to Earls Court 1977 and MK bowl 1982
Killer Queen : listen to Hammersmith 1975 and Montreal 1981
I'm in love with my car : Listen to Houston 1977 and Montreal 1981
Keep Yourself alive : listen to Earls Court 1977 and Buenos Aires 1981
Get Down make Love : listen to Houston 1977 and Montreal 1981.
Don't you think something changed ?
These are a few examples. Don't get me wrong I love John's playing on record an most of the time on stage but I really think something changed and he became too basic. What's your view on this ? and please don't answer with '' John Deacon is the best bassplayer in the world'' and sort of things ! I'd like to hear your answer, but this is the serious discussion forum, so answer seriously.
I always got the impression that John only stayed in Queen because he was commited to the band. I don't think he thougt it would go on as long as it did. He strikes me much more of a family man than a rock star. He just got on stage, did his job then went home. JMO.
do dome of you just sit and invent things to talk about?John is/was a BASS player!!WTF do you expect when you have the likes of Freddie Mercury onstage.Remember the bass player who took Fred's attention way back...he was fired after a few gigs.John hit the powerball with Queen, why rock the boat?

Maybe it's like you said - the songs were becoming simpler on the records so maybe he was trying a more stripped down feel on stage or he could have just been trying a newer approach after playing the same material in repetition on tours.
John Deacon did his job very well, and Queen didn't need another doing mad on stage, we had Freddie.
John Deacon was a great factor within Queen and filled his role like he should!
By the way, there is enough footage of John being "wild" too, also in the latter years!
This post is not about John acting like a madman on stage and outstaging the others. It is merely about his style in playing the bass and how much it has changed over the years. So if you read this post carefully you'll understand what it's about. The examples given are clear and if you listen to them carefully you'll hear the difference in his bassplaying for sure. I agree. I think he just got a little lazier and played on the safe side.
I think some of you just get off on observing to the very last detail yet it still amazes me that you get it wrong! john's style may have changed but that does not mean he was not as inffluential as the others or as outstanding a bass player as any other sure things would change as they experimented with diffenrent styles genres etc lay of john and get a life!
maybe other bass players & musicians would agree, good players always refine their technique as a career progresses to where you do make sounds differently than before -- maybe fans notice it more because we listen to the recordings so frickin' often
^ He's indefinitely retired...I'd love to see him up on stage but it's his decision and I respect that. He gave us so much of his life that I think it's fair that he should get time now for himself to be with his family. He's more content living quietly while Brian and Roger still have the touring bug (which is great, because now I'm getting my chance to see them live!)
wouldnt it be great to see john brian and roger playing with PR play one last time together before they all retire from the stage. maybe release a record
