I'm a science fiction/fantasy movie fan. It was in 1980 when I heard Flash on the radio and loved the laser sounds and the dialogues of the movie. Then I got the album Flash Gordon for easter (actually an audio cassette). I listened to it over and over again and got more and more into the music. The guitar sound that I had never heard before really got me hooked. The lead vocals were just stunning and the background singing was exorbitant. I know not many people actually like the Flash Gordon album, I think it's great and it has never lost its charme for me. Had it not been for this album, maybe I would have never gotten into Queen. Horrible thought actually... So, for all the reasons, mentioned above, I love Queen. It's the combination of the great lead vocals, the multilayered harmonies and the greatest guitar sound there is on this planet. Of course the songwriting is excellent and the band always knew to surprise the listener with something unexpected. I guess this sums it up for me. |

Well this is a tough question, because the answer is a combination of a number of things grouped together. 1- Queen's lyrics and music are very close to me, at times I feel that I can base a number of their songs on my life. "It's a hard life", "Somebody to love", "These are the days of our lives", "Jealousy", "Love of my life", "Mother love" and a whole lot more are all like food to my soul. 2- They are ie the members of Queen, great song writers, preformers and composers, its not easy for a band now a days to combine all these talents into one. 3- Queen has covered a wide range of theme songs, from the sad love songs to the inspirational ones, like: "I want it all", "We are the champions", "We will rock you", "The show must go on", "Headlong" and many others. 4- There simply the best... |

I think many younger people (myself included)get into Queen 1. because of their legendary status. Yes I know it's hard to believe but Queen are pretty well respected among my year at school before I even owned Greatest Hits. Their anthems make people think they're cool. 2. In my opinion, the best voice in the world belongs to the late, great FM and I have never heard anybody else, young or old, come anywhere close and believe me, I've questioned whether I'm unfairly biased many times. 3. There's a lot of boring, monotonous and simply three chord guitar riffing in modern rock music (let's not even get onto the multitude of crap hip hop out there). Again, I've never heard a band cover so many styles and genres in their songs with such musicianship. I like Queen because after being completely unimpressed by modern music since the age of 11, the breath of fresh air that was my bro's 'Queen - the Platinum Collection' showed me good music did exist. You just had to look for it. Queen are like nobody else and Freddie moved, sung and wrote like nobody else. No amount of training, recording contracts or PR can beat originality. |

Well, we were playing Bohemian Rhapsody in our concert band (it sucked for many reasons...but then again, it WAS an arrangement for a concert band of one of the greatest songs...sorry, THE greatest songs in the world...hehe, the fact that we murdered it has branded itself in my head and I never truly got over the anger...still, it was a nice tribute) plus, my friend was like, OMG, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY IS THE BEST SONG EVER! she sent me the lyrics and i was like "...umm...ok" but I still was really interested in it so i asked for it for X-mas cause it was coming up...so i got it and listened to it for the first time and laughed through the whole thing. but i listened to it over and over and really got into it...finally, i listened to the rest of the cd (GH1) and was like, "holy shit! they're really good!" so i listened to the whole cd over and over and over and over again (it's all scratched now and i have to retire it once i get all the songs on the original LPs) so my next album (finally) on my b-day was A Night at the Opera, and it went on and on from then. i read on them and found so much more than a band...i have never liked a band as much as i loooove them, so i found it interesting when i looked beyond their brilliant music and into their lives. i was excited when i found that they liked things similar to me, and stuff like that. i might be crazy, but i sincerely think that they have changed my life. AND they have basically introduced me to my favorite music genres of all time: classic rock! WOOHOO!!!! so it all started with a...erm...quite large song called Bohemian Rhapsody ^.^ I LURVE YOU, QUEEN! |

Nice question really!... In the beginning of 1991 I was a 5 year old boy.In 14.1.1991 I heard a song called INNUENDO...and was completely devastated!I thought oh man they must be demi-gods...The voice of Freddie, the guitar and bass sound by Brian May and John Deacon, the percussion by Roger...After listening to more of their unique sound I realized the're the greatest. Then 3weeks and 1day after my 6th birthday Freddie passed away... Now I'm almost 20 and am able to "HEAR" with all the senses God has given me...The have everything-rock,electronic,pop,jazz,heavy,opera,a little hip-hop...Their music is PURE MAGIC!!! |

I didnt get into Queen till after Freddie's death....really, around the time of the FM Tribute show...seeing that on TV made me realize that there was much more to the band than the handful of huge hits they had....so I checked their stuff out......I bought Classic Queen first, and then Greatest Hits (92 USA version....the Euro compilations are MUCH better, I think!)........I think the first individual albums I checked out were NOTW and Queen II, and I just LOVED them! Especially Queen II......the mystical near-concept-album prog-rock kinda stuff..... What do I like about them? Well, like some others in this thread said.....Freddie's voice is amazingand they just were totally and completely original (really, what bands sound like Queen besides the Darkness? and btw, I love The Darkness!).......and the great songwriting of all four members....the other thing that got me was the guitar playing and the awesome TONE of Brian May! In terms of guitar tones, him and Stevie Ray Vaughan are my all time favorites.....Brian was definitely one of my main inspirations to pick up the guitar myself! (Along with Pete Townshend, actually.....I always loved his playing) '39 was one of the first songs I took to my guitar teacher and said 'show me how to play this'....heh....(and of course, one of the other ones was Stairway To Heaven!) |

They're diverse...they're talented and I think the four of them are amazing lyricists. Their songs just reach something in me and they've helped me through numerous situations. They just had such a force...they're musical geniuses but they never took what they did too seriously and they always had fun with their work. And they put on a great show! I always feel like I can come back to Queen, and I think it was Roger that said Queen is like coming back to mother, so that's how it is for me...it's nice having a constant like that. |

Above all because I'm a sort of Mercurist!!! |

Truthfully, because as a young gay man, I kind of related to Freddie in many ways. Freddie says what I feel with a voice I could never have. Sometimes "everybody wants to put me down" and "say I've gone crazy" just for wanting "somebody to love." So that and the fact that they wrote some of the most awesome rock songs in history, that's why I got into Queen |

Because of their music, why else? |
