To BPP, just out of interest why are you so anti Paul Rodgers but so pro Robbie Williams? I noticed on a previous post of yours you said you'd rather see him fronting Queen, or something similar. Good God why!!??? I'm not a massive supporter of this 'reunion' tour but I think I'd burn my entire Queen collection if loser Williams had joined. Justify yourself. Oh and please don't respond with 'Queen RIP 1991'. Seen that a million times. Lets have something else off you!! |

His vocal range is okay but not suited to most Queen songs. Secondly and most importantly Queen shows have always had a great deal of crowd interaction especially from Freddie. Paul Rodgers is a more I will sing to you and get off kind of guy. This suits some people but I like to feel part of the show, Freddie made sure you were. Everybody knows Freddie cannot be replaced whether it be a standin or new singer. For the people who say he is not replacing Freddie then my answer to that is don't go under the name Queen then people won't make that presumption. On to Robbie the guy is a natural entertainer the kind of singer I like, he has a good voice and has a superb relationship with his audience. Both Brian and Roger admire him and I'm sure Freddie would have as well. Infact if Robbie was not such a "live wire" or "loose cannon" Roger and Brian would have opted for him. At the end of the day I would prefer someone similar to Freddie than someone like Paul Rodgers. |

Ok BPP I respect the fact that you do not like Paul Rogers and you do not agrees with the tour but to keep going on about it and calling us all none Queen Fan I dont respect you. You are entitled to you own opinion but don’t come on here are take it out on us cos we support the tour and are happy to see Queen. They are loads of people on this site who where to young or never got the chance to see the real Queen (as you have as you keep telling us) before Freddie die me been one of them. I’m total gutting about that fact but now even know its not Queen as in Freddie, John, Brian and Rogers it Queen in Brian and Roger only + Paul Rogers on vocals its halfway to the real thing. I would do anything to see Queen in there heyday. And Robbie Williams yes he is one hell on an entertainer but not with Queen, Freddie was a musical geniuses and the ultimate showman Robbie Williams would just try and copy this as he’s to much of a show off then showman this would drag the Queen name down but this is my opinion. |

BPP - thankyou! I still don't get the Robbie thing but I understand where you're coming from and respect your opinion. I'm going to Hyde Park tomorrow. Keeping a very open mind about it. Never had a chance to see Queen feat. Freddie Mercury so for me, this is the next best thing. We'll see! Goodnight, God Bless, Peaceout, Freddie Rocks! |

Now if you had done this from day one, and not immaturely spammed the board a hundred times with your hatred in caps, maybe people here would have a shred of respect for you. |

Whether we like it or not, Queen has now become Brian May and Roger Taylor, just like The Who have become Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey and The Rolling Stones are Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Charlie Watts. I agree that Queen nowadays is not what Queen ever used to be, but there's no denying that, if they ever came to the US, I would see them in a heartbeat. I think it's exciting that Brian and Roger are enjoying themselves again, and I also think the diehard fans can differentiate between Paul Rodgers and Freddie Mercury. Paul is the least Queen-like singer that I could've imagined, which is why I like the combination. Instead of Robbie Williams and George Michael, or even Elton John as some people had once assumed, they came completely out of left field with someone so unlike Freddie that it allowed them to breathe some new life into the band. I always did like when Queen would do the balls-to-the-floor rockers, and now they have that opportunity again with Paul. |

Great Post Lester....Agree with you completely... I am one of the many that are happy that Brian and Roger are enjoying this and that I have a chance to see and hear them perform my favourite songs.... I think Paul is definitely the best choice....I probably could have lived with Robbie even though he really doesn't have the range but Paul has a great voice and is ROCK.....Paul is also respected globally as well....George Michael could have only performed a few songs because I doubt he could have done the rockers....almost all other singers couldn't even come close except for Jeff Scott Soto who is excellent.... anyway I am extremely happy we have a Queen+ tour going on...and Roger and Brian are rocking away! THE SHOW MUST GO ON!! QUEEN ROCKS FOREVER |

Then suddenly I'm looking at this guy who doesn't in any sense try to take the place of Freddie. He's nothing like Freddie because he comes from his own place." they never would have gone on tour with someone who was anything similar to freddie. i say rock on queen + paul rodgers and long live freddie too!! |

Hi guys: For what it's worth . . . I've been keeping up with this thread for the past few days. When I saw the original post, I feared that this would rapidly become another slagfest, but it has not. In fact, the postings here are some of the most thoughful that I've read. It's great to see intelligent discussion on a topic that could easily have gone straight to hell. Good on both of you fat_buddino and BPP for starting this off in good form. Here's a round of beer for all-o-youse! ;-) Red Bull and vodka for those who stayed up too late after last night's Hyde Park gig, and Kool-Aid for those who are under age. ;-) FB: did you make it to The Talbot yesterday? I tried calling to say hi to you guys, but there was no answer at the number for the pub. |

Hi Crazy Little Thing, yes me and my buddy (aka Great_King_Rat_1138 I think is his user name) made it to the Talbot and hooked up with a couple of other Queenzoners. Eggy, Fenderek and a couple of others were there. It was a good laugh! We went our seperate ways before the show though. Not a bad show! Not the best, but not bad! |

Thank god BPP has posted a rational message. I can see his point of view that RW is more of an entertainer in the same vein as Fred, but I don't think it would have worked as well because RW is bigger than PR and would've wanted to put more of his stamp on the gigs. The PR songs are great, and although they are quite close to the originals (Bm and RT can adapt better to them than PR can to the Queen songs), they still stand out as great versions because the musicians can fit the songs so well. PR is an asset because he's different than Fred, just as someone else mentioned here. i love the original Queen albums, love the live albums and am interested to hear any interpretation of Queen music, even if it's just the once. Never got to see Queen live, but i'll settle for what I can see, which is q+PR. IT was definitely worth it (each time - brixton, wembley and hP) |

Robbie wouldnt have worked well with Queen not because of his voice, its just that he is a solo performer who I think, is all "me me me" when it comes to live performance and that quite possibly would get on Brian and Roger's nerves. Think about it. Everytime you see or hear a RW show, he always talks over the guitar solo (or whoever is doing the solo at the time) When was the last time you heard Freddie do that? Answer - hardly ever as he knew when to step out of the limelight and let someone else shine for that moment. I imagine that Brian and Roger enjoyed that he did that. And if he did do something it was usually an utterance like "Sock it to'em, Rog" or mimmicking Brian with his half mic stand. For those brief minutes, he effectively wasnt the front man - something I think Robbie couldnt do. These are just my opinions.. |
