Hello,
It has been made quite obvious that i am not wanted here, that's why i was thinking of leaving
Listen The Vox BM amp, when recorded on a mic sounds exactly like a common crappy 10 W anp, and not the Brian may Deaky Homemade setup, i am a little concerned about this, what do i need to add to boost the signal to stop this common sound?
Is the Treble Booster fair enough on it?
Also when you play Guitar and someone plays drums, the drums are far too loud and even when the amp is on full volume, it over takes it terribly!
What does Roger do to quieter his drum kit?
You can't use silence pads when recording obviously
Look, the amp is fine. It sounds just like the Deacy. But if your microphone sucks, your recording will suck. Use at least a Shure SM57 or SM58. Also, the position of the mic matters, so you have to experiment a little. Finally, you cannot really play this amp live with a drummer. You will get blown away. You either need to hook it up to external speakers for extra volume or put evereything through a PA system and use a mixer to get the balance right.
Pretty much what Farlander said. I actually put myself in the situation last Saturday, where I was forced to use the VBM as my amp on stage. I wasn't too keen, but it worked! I was flabbergasted.
I miked it up with one of my AKG dynamic mics and it sounded pretty cool. Used it for Days Of Our Lives and then stuck with it, sort of reluctantly, for the rest of the night. The drums did overshadow the amp, along with the other guitarist's much bigger amp. That was expected and the only way to hear more of what you're playing would be to get a stage monitor. But I guess that's a little much for someone like yourself JK.
You CANNOT use this amp live without further help from somewhere like a PA. But I can assure you, it worked for that night. I was pleasantly surprised. And as long as the mic is a decent dynamic, it'll be good enough. It DOESN'T have to be a Shure SM57 or 58. I have a 5 part drum mic kit that cost me 60 pounds. I've used a couple of those mics and it sounds pretty cool. I've recorded the VBM with that mic and it's cool. And there are plenty of cheaper mic models that will also sound good.
Peace,
Adam.
