I'm sick and tired of Robbie Williams impersonating Freddie Mercury, and can't understand how Britons eat him up. Brian, and Roger have lost a little of my respect for what they've done over the years. They allowed this charlatan, this talentless fake to sing Queen songs, and impersonate a true legend. |
Bob The Shrek 03.07.2005 13:07 |
Yet another one, for christsake. Replace 'impersonate' with 'paying tribute to' and you would be nearer the truth. If he was going to impersonate Freddie he would have had the moustache and yellow jacket. |
agneepath! 11994 03.07.2005 13:12 |
Please explain how this talentless fake managed to fill up Knebworth during 3 consecutive nights. I'm not a fan of Robbie Williams - nor am i obsessed with despising him. |
SomebodyWhoLoves 03.07.2005 13:23 |
Another idiot. The Freddie Mercury Concert was an example of paying tribute to the man. You can only pay tribute to someone once, maybe twice. What Robbie Williams is doing is making a fucking career out of being the next Freddie. How much more blatant do you want him to get? He sings Queen songs. He copies the same gestures. He prances onstage like a poor Freddie Clone. |
SomebodyWhoLoves 03.07.2005 13:25 |
How? I 'll tellyou how. For the same reason idiots fill up stadiums for Britney Spears. There are a lot of idiots out there. In this case, there also happens to be a demand for a Queen/Freddie like talent. Why else do you think Queen (Brian,Roger) are touring now. Because people miss Queen, the real Queen. Britons especially seem enamored of Robbie Williams because they want to see a British Freddie Mercury. Nowhere else in the world is Robbie Williams successful EXCEPT Britain. Says much, doesn't it? |

Or do you think your US country music stars are truly worldwide stars? Very few people in Europe listen country but we don't call Americans as idiots because of this. If people in UK enjoy of Robbie's music, it's up to them. And by the way Britney and all such artists are American artists, not British... |
SomebodyWhoLoves 03.07.2005 13:54 |
Serry it's interesting that you turn this into a US vs the world thing. Might it be because you have no argument? The fact is, Robbie Wiliams is popular only in Britain. Zander05 03.07.2005 15:54 |
I'm not a Robbie Williams fan at all. But if he wants to PAY TRIBUTE TO FREDDIE (which is what he was doing), then it's fine by me. I hate to break it to you, but people are allowed to like artists such as Britney Spears. And just because someone likes an artist you happen to despise, for whatever bullshit reason, does not make them an idiot. I'm not sure if you're aware of this. But people had been 'impersonating' Freddie since the 70's. While doing Now I'm Here live, there was a roadie dressed up exactly like Freddie to do a cool visual effect to match the vocal one. Is this guy setting off your crap rant? No. Green Day perform WATC and do the "day-o" thing in their concerts. Is Billie Joe impersonating Freddie? No, he is PAYING TRIBUTE. Even Brian does the high notes when he sings LOML live. Is he impersonating Freddie? No. Cry a river, build a bridge and GET THE FUCK OVER IT! |

Again, let me reiterate the difference between paying TRIBUTE and making a CAREER out of impersonating Freddie Mercury. Greenday sang we are the champions at Live8. This was a tribute because they don't pretend to be Freddie Mercury and do remakes of Queen Songs, and act on stage as if they are Freddie Mercury. I've seen Robbie Williams at Live8, and it is TOTAL BULL how people are saying he was so great, and awesome. Have you really listened to his voice? He has one of the worst voices. ever. He is like the male version of Britney Spears. No vocal talent at all. Secondly, he is UGLY. I can't see what is the charm of his ugly face. He looks like a thin, half dead rat. Thirdly, he has a crappy persoanlity. He was laughing like a moron, joking, but he came off stupid and retarded. Fourthly, he is a SHIT POOR impersonator. He can't walk him him, can't talk like him, yet he screams on top of his lungs, come on cme on! let me hear you. and sadly, the stupid crowd goes along with it. Just pathetic. |

Look guys. The guy ain't talentless. He can sing, he can perform and he writes some o.k pop songs and people think he is good looking, that's all you need to appeal to alot of 20 something women and he has a huge gay following and kids like him, aswell as some men. I think he is kinda good at what he does, but his WWRY at Live 8 was shite. He was trying to mix the Queen Live Aid performance (by getting the crowd to sing along really loud) and the U2 Live Aid performance (by going down to the crowd) but you can't repeat these things. Live 8 just didn't have the same feel as Live Aid. U2's performance at Live Aid was superb, so was Queen's. Bowie was good, Status Quo were good, The Who were good, Led Zeppelin wern't that bad. There was alot of great stuff at Live 8 aswell but it just didn't have the same feel as Live Aid did, and I never saw Live Aid live on the day. Macca did a much better performance at Live 8. Pink Floyd were good. Elton (apart from Pete Doherty's apperance) was very good. He sang his 2 best up tempo songs and was very good. There wasn't really anyone that was bad. Not even Coldplay (except Chris Martin singing abit of Rockin' All Over The World which showed that he cannot sing in tune). BTW: Was there any point in George Michael singing abit of a song with Macca? He should have done his own set. He's a better singer than most of them on that stage. Good to se him though I thought. |

Going to church and spending time (and in some cases money) IS paying tribute/homage to something you believe in. If my memory serves me right from when I did go to church, there is a hymn entitled ''This Is My Tribute''. There are many different levels of admiration for idols. Some take it to extremes and form what are called cults. This is an example of paying tribute. There was a few months ago some mention of a religion with Freddie as a saint (I'm not going to bother to look it up). I put that ''and NO'' statement cause I didn't want it to be read into incorrectly. I wanted to ensure that what I was expressing was interpreted correctly. I suggest, SomebodyWhoLoves, that you find a better arguement that ''shut up''. Don't stifle those who are in rebutal against you. It gives you more room to point out their faults and foolings (of which you have provided plenty for us). I also would highly reccommend picking up a thesaurus. You have used some form of the word idiot a grand total of seven times (and no, I'm not counting the ones where you said stupid successively). As for an apology for your remark on actions you think should be done to me, I should expect an apology. I do. Though it could never hold the value of an apology of a person who is competent enough to understand the compassion of such an act, it still needs to be done. ------- Many thanks to Bob and Zeni. |

Thank you, sincerely, for your apology. I don't have a problem disagreeing with you, nor do I think you're an idiot (for your definition of 'tribute'). That's the only reservation you have against me, right? But why is it so important to you? What makes you think we should all think the exact same? How boring would that be? You're taking this a little too close to heart if it's irritating you. Don't take it so personal. Perhaps you could sway us all to think differently if you'd present calm, thought-out arguements versus insults. Civility brought to the table would support an intelligent environment in which we all could discuss this. Please don't allow your rage for being disagreed with to overcome your responses. If you're afraid that if I disagree with you I won't listen, that is entirely wrong. It's always good to look at how others see things, if not to agree but to indeed disagree. By doing this you can gather your own thoughts on what you think with negative perception. ***Most of all, SomebodyWhoLoves, please remember: I'm not attacking you; I'm disagreeing, that's all. |

I haven't read anything further than the first two posts for this thread mainly 'cos all I'm gonna find is everyone bitching one of two opposing opinions; 1 - Robbie IS a cheap Freddie-impersonator 2 - *see above, but replace the over-exaggerated 'IS' with an equally over-exaggerated 'ISN'T'... Y'know, wouldn't it have just been easier to copy + paste the first one and edit it myself :P* So now I'll just say my bit; Robbie is a fucking cheap Freddie-wannabe - 10x worse than an impersonator 'cos wannabes just ARE. However, he falls short of succeeding because he's a prat - he can't do anything with just a little bit of class, whereas Freddie could and did. Robbie's a try-hard, talentless, attention-seeker and I will puke if Brian and Roger let him belt out a rendition of WWRY or any other Queen song ever again. Perhaps it's only because I stand here as a genius among mental midgets that my anger puzzles so many of you, who see nothing wrong with an illegitimate no talent hack prancing about in dead Freddie's skin in a pathetic and obvious attempt to replace and even surpass dead Freddie's place. Every celebrity in Live8 wanted to be the next Freddie Mercury. From the sickening display of ego from Mariah Carey. To the so pathetic it's funny squabbles between U2 and Paul McCartney over who should open. And finally, to the laughably pathetic attempts of Robbie William who can't sing, can't dance but thinks he is Freddie Mercury. And I had to restrain myself from puking from the sickness I felt in my stomach. The strong pungent stink of Irony at what the whole Live8 event had become made me truly sick. Irony because what started off as a truly genuine, honorable goal to help the dying Africans ended as a gigantic galactic sized display of ego from the stars and celebrities who were strutting onstage like proud peacocks in a vain attempt to steal the show, and become the next Freddie Mercury. And you stupid people ate it up. Maybe the earth has become such a hell that people are unable to distinguish anymore between genuine authenticity and a cheap imitation, or maybe they don't care. What counts now is the cheap thrill. A cheap Freddie is better than no Freddie. It doesn't matter if Robbie can't sing, or dance, or isn't even remotely charming. The important thing is, he is paying tribute to Freddie. That's like saying a big pile of fresh steaming brown shit isn't all shit if there's a peanut in there. You people sicken me. If any of you had any decency among you, you'd join me in repudiation of what Live8 had become, and what Robbie Williams is. He's a pile of shit. In a way, I am glad that Queen and Freddie Mercury were not part of Live8. Unlike 99% of the stars of Live8, Freddie was genuine, and real, and so were Queen. I'd like to keep the memory of that intact. |
