Hello, I saw on some website they have found the John Birch Red Special, (the one from the We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings video) how did it get lost i know Brian lobbed it of the stage in frustration at one Queen concert I think Brian is ungrateful for throwing it off the stage, it had a Tremolo and the works, and probably sounded better than any of our Red Specials, so anyone know why? |

Yes, I know. But since I've answered at least 90% of your questions with proper helpful answers and not had the courtesy of a thank you, you can fuck off. |

I own two Red Specials - one Burns signature, which I like quite a bit and one Dillion, which sucks, but I figured as much before I bought it. I just wanted a cheap model I could reconfigure and tweak. For anyone looking for the elusive Brian May sound, the Dillion is not the guitar for you. As I've mentioned in another thread started by Johnny Knoxville, I've had better luck finding the Brian May sound with a Washburn Idol Series W-I64 electric guitar and a Roland amp with digital effects. The Burns duplicates it to an extent, but I really think that unless you're Brian May, you're just not going to pull off the Brian May sound - even with a Vox amp, a treble booster and a Burns. The Washburn has VCC - voice contour control, which allows you to phase in an out of your pickups, allowing the guitar to range anywhere from a Humbucker to a solid, single-tone Fender sound and anywhere in between. Digital effects saves a ton on equipment and is indistiguishable from the "real" effects - tremelo, phasing, chorus and the like. Johnny, if you're having such a goddamned hard time with your Dillion, I'd suggest investing in a Burns model, which can be found for reasonable prices on eBay. |

I own a 1993 Guild Signature Red Special, and I can honestly say that it is the best guitar I have ever played. I haven't tried the later Burns models. I play through a Vox Tonelab SE, and take the stereo output to 2 Vox 'Deacy' amps. These amps are brilliant on their own, but with the AC30 modelling on the Tonelab they sound awesome. I also own one of the original Guild treble booster pedals, but haven't used it for a long time - although when I did use it I got some good sounds. Remember though that 90% of the sound is in the fingers. Although I can sometimes convince (delude) myself that I am approaching 'that' sound, there is always something missing. |

I wonder about Johnny K. He has asked questions nobody should be asking. His subjects include which wire to pull in BhoRap. Which knob to play with how does Brian work his knob etc. The triangle is a much more suitable instrument. If you want a electric triangle you could find an electrical receptacle in your house and attach one wire to your triangle and the other to yourself. You should be able to produce a unique sound which even Brian hasn't found yet. |

You neglected to mention the part about standing in a metal tub partially filled with water. In fact, I believe salt water might even be advised to improve the conductivity. TQ, will gladly split the bill with you for the wiring job. |

I have one of the 40 ever made Guild "Green" Red Specials on eBay right now and let me tell you something! NOTHING beats the 93' Guilds for what they are as just a guitar, nevermind a copy of Brian's actual guitar which I have played. It's a totally different beast. If you've heard of, or even NOT heard of "link then THAT's what you want to save up for to exactly match what Brian made with his dad back in 63'ish.... that's an exact replica and a lot more competitively priced than anything better... that's my 2 pence! ;^) Have a nice day! Yep there pretty damn close, but so are the Andrew Guytons. But the Burns model does get a very close tone to Brians original if used in conjunction with the same amps and treble booster. Also just with the deacy amp it works a treat when recorded. |
YourValentine 22.02.2006 06:01 |
Hello Michael, could you please post a link to your ebay auction? Do Kzguitarworks have a license to build a Red Special Replica? Also: why did Brian end his cooperation with Burns, it was a very successful product. Do you happen to know? |

3000us$ for a Guild sounds a bit pricey to me... Anyone knows how much the sold it new, back in the 90's? I plan to acquire a RS from Rs-guitars.com (2699$), but i don't know whether i should go for the "fat" neck or the thinned one (i presently own a Burns & i'm quiet hapy with the neck width, but being permanently unsatisfied i wish to change for a bit better). Anyone has "experience" with RS Guitars...? Thank you:) |

Indeed very funny, the last thing I remember must have been the thread before that one when someone asked the question and Brian replied that it had been stolen some time after the show. Great stuff, Brian was obviously having a senior moment! |

it had something to do with him going on tour and plus he did not like the fact that burns was making strat type red specials which really degrated the red specials name and sound it self. plus the neck it self was made in the form of a fender strato. |
