If in a few years or so some producer would come up with the idea to do a movie about Queen who would be his first choice for Freddie's part ? In my opinion Jean Reno really looks like Freddie in the 1988-1990 period. His nose disturbs a little but apart from that he'd be perfect. what do you guys think ? cheers |

I don't really know. But i've seen a lot of motion pictures about music (Crossroads, the story of The Beatles, Def Leppard, etc., so a Queen film would be very nice. |

I was talking to one of my superiors at work about this the other day, and though I maintain that Johnny Depp would be a great choice, I had to agree with him that using a nobody might be best. As he put it, the fact that we all recognize Johnny Depp would probably distract us from being able to see the character as Freddie, who is SUCH an individual, that it would be best not to be able to picture the actor in any other role. Like with Superman and Batman (thinking Christopher Reeves and Christian Bale - who was known, but not hugely famous), by starting off with someone relatively unknown for a certain character, it's easier for them to fully embody that character in our imaginations. |

I would love to see Johnny Depp. But then again, who could replace a legend? |
Drem1 29.06.2005 00:17 |
Maybe a wild idea, but how about that guy who plays Ali G, when he is that kazachstan news reporter he looks a bit like Freddie. |

if there was a queen movie i think eric christen olsen could pull of Rodger. I think the story would be great if it was told by Rodger or John, because it would sort of give a good view of the films biggest stars (and im talking in as what they did in the group, not favoutism), Brian & Freddie |

i think Sam Rockwell could play Freddie. for more details you can watch the "Hitchhicker's guide to the universe" movie |

Val Kilmer is Jim Morrisson, no way can he be Freddie Mercury. A great Oliver Stone movie by the way, with a lot of music in it. |

I don't think Eric MacCormack has enought presence, "Jack" is stealing the show. |

Johnny Depp. He's far from perfect for the role and I cant see him giving it loads on stage but I cant think of any other actor who even slightly resembles Freedie that would have the talent to pull it off. |
Suigi 30.06.2005 01:04 |
Why not go the CGI route? Lord knows that computer graphics have gotten to the point where lifelike humans can be animated with minimal difficulty. Heck, I was thinking that a "Made in Heaven" video should be made with a CG Freddie. His spirit would sorta comes out of the statue in Montreau (sp?). |

Ironically he is a little younger than Freddie would be, if Freddie were still alive. But to portray Freddie throughout Freddie's life, and Freddie passed at only 45, Reno is already almost 57 years old, a bit too old to portray Freddie. |

sweden_man wrote: johnny depp could easily look like freddie, but the way he acts is so different from freddie not to mention, can johnny depp sing like freddie, cause i highly doubt itCasting the appropriate actor is all that matters. The film's Director and Producers would most likely dub in Freddie's actual vocals, as with alot of music artists film biographies. Angela Bassett was perfect to portray Tina Turner in ''Whats Love Got To Do With It'', and is one of the finest current actresses today, but no way could she sing like or come close to the talent of Tina Turner, so they dubbed Tina's original recordings of her vocals. Last year's ''Ray'' biography of Ray Charles, Jamie Fox was brilliant, but they dubbed in Ray Charles' original recordings of his vocals. Alot of TV film bios of Elvis, especially the one with Kurt Russell, which was one of the better critically received film bios of Elvis, made years ago, they dubbed in original recordings of Elvis' vocals. The main concern, is getting the actor who can properly convey Freddie's personality, charisma, what drove him artistically and personally, etc. |
Six Seas of Rhye 30.06.2005 20:27 |
Sam Rockwell - excellent choice. How about David "Little Britain" Walliams? I know he's more comedian than actor but maybe that's what a Fred needs. The only negative for Walliams is that he seems quite tall. |
Dear Friends 01.07.2005 01:50 |
I can't believe everyone has overlooked Jerry Seinfeld. They look very similar especially if Jerry grew a stache. The only problems I see is that Jerry may be a little too old at this point and that he is too deeply rooted in comedy to play the part. |
egret 01.07.2005 03:23 |
But Jerry Seinfeld has no soul. I nominate Paddy Considine, for his emotional range and general charm. He doesn't really look like Freddie, but they can make him up. Or, possibly, Liev Schrieber. He could be brilliant. Even if he's a little tall for it. |

I really cant see anyone managing to portray Freddie, FM had too many different sides to him, and a huge catalogue of mannerisms,one-liners,etc and lets face it we would all sit watching looking for mistakes! I think Tom cruise is the opposite of Freddie, I dont know many actors, but Ive looked up photos of the ones mentioned on here, and personally cant see anyone who could be Freddie, just imagine if they were fitted out with the false version of Freddies teeth, they would be 3 months trying to speak with them! Also, without being crude, that wouldnt be the only part of them they would have to cram with falsies either!! |
Lyson 01.07.2005 11:11 |
The duty of an actor is to practice and get all the affected ways of the caracter that he embody. Sometime, they're spending months to make it work. They even get the accent. The vocal are not a problem.Who would imagine watching a Freddie's bio movie without the original voice. A professionnal actor like Johnny Depp could do it. For the physical, just watch Benny & Joon and Donnie Brasco. And also Edward Scissorhands. |
freesia 01.07.2005 11:18 |
I still think it would be difficult for an actor even to take off Freddies speaking voice, if you listen to his interviews, it was the same as his singing voice, going from very low to very high in a single sentence, sometimes camp sometimes very macho, sometimes an intense stare straight in the eye ( I can see it now!) sometimes a nervous laugh (hand over the mouth) etc etc. He would be IMO a very difficult part to play even for a professional. |
Lyson 01.07.2005 11:27 |

Johnny (Depp, not Knoxville). Just watch him in Donnie Brasco movie - in the scenes there he's with moustache - he looks like Freddie from 1984-1985 years. |

Guys, we're missing an obvious point here: many of Freddie's physical characteristics were typical of people of his ethnicity. He was a Parsi, who are ethnically Persian, i.e Iranian/ Afghan/Pakistani or thereabouts. The Iranian film industry is one of the largest in the world, there are many actors who would more closely resemble Freddie than a caucasian in terms of facial shape, build, dental structure, speaking voice. Many British asian actors would be good choices on this basis. What about a Bollywood star? |

Jonny Depp would be cool. But playing Bri, Rog and John I'd like to see actual musicians - kinda like how they got actual boxers to play Joe Frasier and Sonny liston etc in the Ali movie. Like Taylor Hawkins of the Foo's playing Rog etc. Although, I was thinking, has anyone seen the Tupac film ''Tupac Ressurection''? It's a very clever film and basically starts of with an overhead shot of Las Vegas where Tupac was shot dead. Then moves to his childhoos, and his early rap days, his famous years up until Las Vegas again - and then nowadays. But the whole thing is narrated by him. As many interviews as possible were found and used to narrate each part of his life, and it worked very well. In some instances it was very spooky how definite some of his predictions and what have you were. But how about this as an idea for a Queen film? Maybe Queen productions could pull their fingers out and give a film company as much footage and audio as they want, and make a similar effort? Perhaps with the band narrating it? Could work, might be interesting, and is a different angle. Just so long as DoRo have nothing to do with it... |

Espicially the champions of the world video is full with it. But I think thats another topic... cheers |

Hi everyone!!! :) Let me speak my mind...Firstly,we have to take several actors to play Freddie for specific periods of his life.Secondly,I don't think we need famous actors to play Freddie...The impotrant thing for the actor is to look like Freddie and to be damned good on what he's doing,to be one with his role. Now,what about the 1970-1978 period???Any ideas??? |
