I recently downloaded the Kleptones "A Night at the Hip Hopera" and after listening to it I am puzzled and intrigued.
On virtually all of the tracks, they seem to working with the masters of the songs. They are able to isolate or remove specfic parts such as lead or background vocals or specific instruments. For example on "Fight from the Inside", Rogers vocals are completely removed. On "Save Me", the lead vocals are completely removed and the acoustic guitar and the background vocals are manipulated to appear at their whim. How is this done?
Well, they might be using some karaoke versions of the songs.
And the DVD-Audio versions of the albums.
But I dig the Kleptones' stuff as well. Their mish-mash of Bohemian Rhapsody covers, simply entitled "Bo", could easily be slid onto the album before you burn it. Maybe at the end as a hidden track.
Do the the karaoke versions feature Queens actual instrumentals versions. These songs are not replayed versions of Queens music, but the actual music tracks themselves.
They're using the 2004 re-mastered karaoke tracks from the Japanese-only karaoke compilation "Greatest Karaoke Hits", which indeed are mixed from the original master tapes.
