My review of the new CD, ''Music From The O.C. Mix 4'' is currently published in the July/August 2005 issue of American Songwriter Magazine! Yippie!
It's on page 61.
The band Fountains Of Wayne are on the cover.
It's the issue that JUST came out here in the USA, ..and it goes over to the UK in about a month. I JUST bought an issue at Tower Records in Rockville, Maryland since they got it in first.
(P.S. this is the 3rd time I have had stuff published covering the music from the TV show ''The O.C.''....
...I hade a MAJOR in depth interview with the show's Music Supervisor Alexandra Patsavas published a few months back, and I had a review of ''Music From The O.C Mix 1'' published last year too....
Yippie Cayeah!
Yep..thanks Barry, that is the correct website for American Songwriter Magazine and that is one of the promo links for the DVD for the TV show ''The O.C.''.
Jingles I KNOW you hate ''The O.C.''.
But...you know I..am a HUGE fan of the show and adore it.
1) Season 1 of ''The O.C.'' was great and it was my favorite TV show LAST year in it's first season. Great tight, intelligent, savvy, writing, acting, excellent emotional character driven storylines.
2) Season 2 SUCKED, and the show's producers admitted to it. The writing, more than anything else went haywire, they brought in a ton of ''guest'' stars that drew away all attention from any decent character development, and I hated Season 2 and the ratings fell BIG time, but the last 2-3 Episodes of Season 2, the writers, dumped all the ''guest'' characters and brought the great writing back with a phenomenal season ending cliff hanger finale.
3) Regarding the music, I had inquired IF there was going to be A soundtrack, during Season 1 just to buy on my own because I LOVED the music,...from Season 1. All British and Scottish acts, South, Jem, Finley Quaye, Alexi Murdoch.
Then...LO and Behold...cooincidentally Warner Music decided to release not 1, but a series of soundtracks. So...I started covering the soundtracks, (this New one being the 4th and from Season 2),
...and like I said I covered the show's music in general as I INTERVIEWED the show's Music Supervisor Alexandra Patsavas who licenses music from artists for the show and she also commissions bands to perform on the show or write and record songs for the show.
Alot of music used on the show is NOT on the soundtracks, because there is just so much music that appears in every episode on the show.
.....Artists also have included...
......U2 who premiered their first song ''Sometimes You Can't make It On Your Own'' from their NEW album ''How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'', BEFORE the album had even been released.....
4) The soundtracks are GREAT.
''Music From The O.C. Mix #1 is my favorite and I have played it to where it's nearly worn out.
I actually did NOT like ''Music From The O.C. Mix #2'', because they concentrated on alot of the new indie artists from the USA and the UK like Super Furry Animals, The Killers, who all seem to sound alike and are very repetitive, etc.,
''Have A Very Merry Chrismukah, Music From The O.C. Mix #3'' was a CHRISTMAS AND HANUKKAH album, which featured cool, wonderful tunes from both Season 1 and Season 2's Christmas/Hanukkah shows because on the TV show, the parents of one of the main characters, the Father is Jewish, the Mother is Christian, and is really nice.
''Music From The O.C. Mix #4 is great, especially, there is a cover of Oasis' Champagne Supernove...I don't even like that song or Oasis at all, but this cover by a band named Matt Pond PA is absolutely stunning. You would NEVER know that it's the same song. Comepletely different arrangement, orchestration, the lead singer has a great voice, the guitarist is wonderful. And the rest of the record is great too.
Anyhow..I Love BOTH the TV Show and The Music Soundtracks from it..but that's MY opinion.
