NO potshots from the peanut gallery. I Love 60's 70's old school R and B Funk.
I love Both these bands...BUT...
Earth Wind and Fire still win for the songs Shooting Star and September alone...
...plus having the maga talents of
co-vocalists Philip Bailey and Maurice White..
..and guitar player Verdine White (Maurie's brother).
Haven't heard all that much EWF, but I'm a big fan of Sly and the Family Stone, 'I Want To Take You Higher' being one of my favorites. Incidentally, I downloaded that song a few years ago thinking it was the unreleased Roger Taylor song, but I was pleasantly surprised nonetheless.
Although nothing beats Parliament, in my book.
''I Want To Take You Higher'' is my favorite song by Sly and The Family Stone.
Have you seen and heard the live version from the Original Woodstock? Their workout of that song live STOLE Woodstock the way Queen stole Live Aid. Highlight of Woodstock.
But EWF is a great band too! I saw them live in Brussels, a couple of years ago (without Maurice White, though, who didn’t like touring anymore, apparently). Their CD Plugged In And Live (1997) is absolutely one of my favorites. It just blows you off your seat. Philip Bailey hits extremely high and powerful notes, many singers can only dream of.;-)
Too bad, their more recent songs are far weaker than their 70s stuff.

Most Def. like I said..EWF are STILL my favorite here.
Shooting Star, September, That's The Way Of The World, and tons more!
Great ensemble band with brass and horn section too.
Real showmen, gteat live shows with fire and gorgeous costumes.
