Further to my earlier message about Planet Rock (222.06 on DAB Digital Radio) broadcasting live from Hyde Park in July I have just heard the following on Nicky Hornes show. 'We will be broadcasting all day from back stage at Hyde Park, and at about 9 o'clock, whilst the guys are on stage, we will be broadcasting the original Hyde Park gig from the mid '70's in its entirety. This is not a shoddy bootleg, the band have made available to us the original master tapes of the concert, and we can assure you that they are far better than anything you may already have heard'. It's disappointing that they haven't got permission to broadcast the Queen + PR gig, although I guess it's understandable with Sheffield due out in a few months. But at least THE definative copy of Hyde Park will be 'out there'. Planet rock also announced that they will be holding a competition with 6 pairs of Gold Circle tickets to won, and also a pair of backstage passes!!!! So get listening to Planet Rock with your mobile phones at the ready !! |
ianshome 24.06.2005 06:16 |
surely they will be on earlier than 9! as the concert has to end at 10:15! |
Teo_torriate04 24.06.2005 06:25 |
I'm pretty sure that's what I heard. But the original Hyde Park gig only ran for about 80 minutes anyway, so if they start playing it around 9'ish then it would finish at about 10:15/10:20 which would be about right. The guys may well have been on stage for an hour before they start rolling the tape. |
Fenderek 24.06.2005 07:24 |
I'm sure som eof you guys can record it, right? And have an upgrade on this one :) |

Fenderek wrote: I'm sure som eof you guys can record it, right? And have an upgrade on this one :)If someone can educate me as to how I could record this in a digital format I would be happy to oblige. I'm a simple man, with a simple name (when it comes to computers) |

THanks for the info. Hyde park '76 in much better quality sounds great! |
3137prof 24.06.2005 10:12 |
They probably be starting earlier than 9pm. They started the Newcastle gig @ 8.30pm. |

Is it possible to get Planet Rock on the internet as I don't have a DAB radio. |

can u record online too? |
brENsKi 24.06.2005 14:01 |
all you need to do is 1. use the LISTEN LIVE tab on the website 2. in windows - START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - ENTERTAINMENT - VOLUME CONTROL 3. go to RECORDING - and select only WAVE 4. then use your windows recorded (or COOL EDIT PRO) or whatever sound recording software you usually use - to record 5. remember to save one last point - planet rock stream their online music @ 32kbp so it sounds like it's played through a biscuit tin - not great for recording if you want a decent copy of this either 1. set your sky+ pvr to record the show or 2. listen on sky live and record to your stereo or 3. get a copy from the hub hope this helps |
Rompez 24.06.2005 14:12 |
Actually I'm glad that they are going to broadcast Hyde Park'76. Finnaly we will be able to get that legendary concert in EX quality and make a judgment. Im petty intrigued if it realy had so strange wired sound or it was fault of crappy bootlegs. |
ianshome 24.06.2005 17:40 |
come on over tracey [mylittlehammer] you know you want to and we had such fun before!!! |
Jjeroen 25.06.2005 07:19 |
Nice developements indeed... But the fact that they obviously have dug up the old masters, makes one think... Sure they would not bother to do so for 'just' a radiobroadcast....?? ;-) Let your imagination run free ;-))) |
Rompez 25.06.2005 07:47 |
Why not? Hammesmith'75 is being broadcasted for years and it's still not released officially. |
David Jones 25.06.2005 08:28 |
Oh yes yes yes! Come on! I can record from DAB (and will!), so if no-one produces a better recording I will share mine. I think their DAB bitrate is 128kbps... Thanks for the update! |
The Real Wizard 25.06.2005 19:45 |
Wow, this is fantastic news! Who cares if they aren't broadcasting the Queen/Rodgers Hyde Park gig... a high quality (stereo?) soundboard recording from HP 76 is a dream come true for some of us. |
Cwazy little thing 25.06.2005 19:59 |
I will try to get a decent version recorded at the time, but if not - someone please be sure to post a good quality version on here! :) |

The Real Wizard 26.06.2005 15:52 |
12 more days! let's get it on |
David Jones 26.06.2005 17:34 |
Ah yeah. So what equipment do we all have for recording? Can anyone record the DVB signal? What encoding is that? |
djaef 27.06.2005 06:16 |
Yes I agree. An excellent copy of Hyde Park 76 is more exciting (to me) than the 05 live gig itself :) I just did a test run and recorded something off their Internet stream, and while I couldn't figure out how to see what rate it was encoded at, it did sound rather tinny. I would say it was pretty low. Makes a mokery of having a really good recording really. So it looks like we'll be depending on those in the UK that can get the feed on the radio. |
David Jones 27.06.2005 13:22 |
The only thing with the radio stream is that its encoded at 128kbps. The BBC have there DAB stream at 128 kbps but there DVB stream at 192kbps. Don't ask me what the difference is! I think DVB is from the video. Anyone able to record a DVB stream? I think straight to computer would be better rather than from a VHS recording of it. |
Rick 27.06.2005 16:05 |
Yes, this is great news! I would love to hear this show in such a great quality. I really hope some of you are going to record this show. And offcourse putting it on QueenZone. |

Penetration_Guru 28.06.2005 12:28 |
It was just me that saw that they're now only broadcasting "tracks from" the original Hyde Park then.... |
The Real Wizard 28.06.2005 16:51 |
P_G: Capital Gold is playing just a few tracks of HP 76. Planet Rock plans to play the entire show. |
David Jones 29.06.2005 13:14 |
Captial Gold are broadcasting some now too?! Haven't got the ability to DVD the show... :-( |
Negative Creep 01.07.2005 13:12 |
Is it confirmed that they're going to broadcast the whole of the original Hyde Park gig? Not seen any mention of it on any of the Queen sites or Brians site and Planet Rocks website makes no mention of it at all. |
djaef 06.07.2005 02:53 |
Anyone got any more news on this? I'll trade my ex for a good copy of Hyde Park 76. :) |
Rick 06.07.2005 03:47 |
djaef wrote: Anyone got any more news on this? I'll trade my ex for a good copy of Hyde Park 76. :)LOL. Just 2 days left, who is going to record it, and put it in FLAC on QZ? (A) |
David Jones 06.07.2005 13:08 |
Like I said, we won't be able to get lossless flac. The DAB broadcast will be encoded at 128kbps and the DVB probably at 192kbps. |
djaef 06.07.2005 19:31 |
David Jones wrote: Like I said, we won't be able to get lossless flac. The DAB broadcast will be encoded at 128kbps and the DVB probably at 192kbps.OK. I'm just realising there is a huge hole in my understanding of "lossless" vs "lossy". How does the bitrate make it lossy or not? Transmitted on dvb, what is being transmitted in way of file format? How does this actually work? 192kbps seems reasonable. Is there a bitrate that makes it lossless? Hmmm. I need to find out more about this stuff. |
David Jones 07.07.2005 14:29 |
I'm not sure how it works. I just know that by fiddling around with my DAB radio I get a screen which says its broadcasting at 128kbps Stereo and I know from a friend that DVB is 192 kbps. I guess we can put it in flac to stop the hassle of getting rid of the gaps, but I'm not sure if its entirely lossless. But with the gig not going ahead now, I wonder whether the show will be broadcast this week or next week... |
agneepath! 11994 08.07.2005 15:48 |
just been listening to Planet Rock: "next week with all things being well - we'll bring you Queen in concert" |

But with the gig not going ahead now, I wonder whether the show will be broadcast this week or next week...From Dimeadozen: Digital broadcasts and webcasts are all lossy compressed nowadays. In principle it is not allowed to share lossy compressed material on DIME. An exception is made when the following criteria are fullfilled: It is known that there is no lossless (better quality) source at the trading community's disposal. The lossy compressed material is shared in its original compressed format. If the material was compressed at a bitrate of 192kbps or greater, and it is not known to be available in the original format, then it is allowed to share it in a lossless compression format. Such torrents must include the following information in both the description of the torrent and the info file: That the material comes from a lossy broadcast; and State the compression format and bitrate of the broadcast. Please note: Broadcast networks like Sky Digital and Freeview as well as acronyms such as DVB, DAB, and ADR all represent lossy compressed digital broadcasts. |
David Jones 08.07.2005 20:07 |
So its next Saturday now?!... Why can't they just do it tomorrow?!... |
agneepath! 11994 09.07.2005 05:41 |
I assume its next Friday not Saturday. They said they'll be backstage at Hyde Park. Timewise I think they said 7pm but not 100% sure. |
David Jones 09.07.2005 08:21 |
Hmmm... maybe they'll just do the backstage stuff next Friday. I always thought the live stuff was on their Saturday Night Live night... Maybe they'll still broadcast the 76 gig tonight... |

Agneepath! wrote: just been listening to Planet Rock: "next week with all things being well - we'll bring you Queen in concert"Glad to see we've heard more about this! I really do hope the recording is better than the bootleg, and that it was mixed properly. Freddie's vocal was far too loud on the bootleg, and Roger's wasn't loud enough. |
Rompez 10.07.2005 05:58 |
Also a big drawback of the bootleg is inconstant tape speed of the recording witch causes out of tune problems, I think. |
Negative Creep 14.07.2005 06:59 |
Is this still due to be played at 9pm tomorrow? Has anyone heard anything this week about it? |
Negative Creep 15.07.2005 13:40 |
Apparently Planet Rock won't be broadcasting anything from Hyde Park '76... just the Q+PR downloads in sync with the band playing tonight. They were obviously overly optimistic with their original claims. |
