With all the troubles with Britain has had with the Irish I just wondered how popular Queen were in there. I only ask because the name “Queen” is also associated with the Queen of England and it might rub people the wrong way.
Any thoughts?
Actually this is a good point. Being from the USA, I never thought about that til you brought it up.
Anyone over in Ireland know?
Although Queen must have a fairly good audience since they did just play Belfast & Dublin on the Queen+Paul Rodgers Tour.

Yea baby yea!!!! Of course we love Queen in Ireland. Nobodys too bothered that 'Queen' is such a British name-its the music that counts. Im Irish myself and I dont know anyone who dosnt like Queen because of their nationality- to tell the truth I dont know anyone who dosnt like Queen at all. But Queen is almost forgotten amongst our youth- but Im spreading Queen mania as fast as I can!! Its a good point that you make about the troubles between britain and Ireland but they have very little effect on the sales of Queens CDs and DVDs here. We probably buy as much as other countries in Europe that might resent Britain for past troubles(France?).Maybe the story is different in the North but down south everything is hunky dory when it comes to Queen- THEY ROCK!!
Oh yea PS I was at the concert in Dublin. It was amazing, everyone had a fantastic time and the performances were brillant. Not surprisingly the concert was sold out! I cant wait for Queens next visit!!
From Martin's site about the Dublin '86 show:
''Brian once mentioned that playing in Ireland was their worst experience (= worst audience) ever, Brian was even hit by a beer can and almost refused to play the encore.''

I'd have to somewhat agree with Linda none of my friends like Queen my boyfriend only bares them cause i'm such a fan, although he respects them as musicians.Alot of Irish people do like them though and the concert they played here proves this
In Jim Huttons book he states that Freddie said he would never play in Ireland again after the incidents with that gig,but thank
god brian Roger were so Forgiving...we deserve a second chance and what a gig that was. Brian said at the gig that he couldn't believe the reception and he felt humbled to be standing here infont of us all(i guess he probably said something like that at every gig)it's up to us to spread the music and i have converted a few people to our cause... Long live Queen (but not the queen of England)!!!only messin..xx aisha xx
queen played dublin rds in 84
and slane in 86 - don't know about other gigs
they were big there....if you can sell out slane you ain't chicken feed
they have certainly acknowledged the "political" issues by playing "the overture section from ADATR" instead of god save the queen

Come on you cant judge us all as drunks! Im sure there were drunks at other Queen concerts (?) I hope the rest of the planet dosn't think we're all alcoholics!:-{ Anywho I wouldn't've minded if they played God Save the Queen.
Okay this question is directed at everyone who was at the Dublin concert '05-Is it just me or did Brian play a bit of Molly Malone in his guitar solo???

Read my post above. I replied to Linda: ''I don't judge you, but Brian did.''
Queen played Ireland 4 times, the crazy tour kicked off in dublin on 22.11.1979 .A planned concert for Cork city hall 20.11.1979 was cancelled for unknown reasons.
There were two dates for the works tour in dublin 28.08.1984 & 29.08.1984.There is an audio copy of the first date.
The final date in Ireland was on the magic tour 05.07.1986 Slane, County Meath. This concert avalable on bootleg video and audio.
As far as I know any gigs they played here were sell outs. As for Slane, I was 12 at the time and chose getting a game for the ol' Commodore 64 instead of going to the concert........I'll never forgive myself.
It might be different up the north but everyone I know, bar one eejit, either likes or has a soft spot for Queen.
Only the dumbest of the dumb would think Queen were any way political and hold it against them. That said, there are still a lot of biggotted, simple minded people in Ireland that would use any excuse to take a dig at anything British. There seemed to be quite a few at the Slane Gig unfortunately.
BTW, my girlfriend has recently become a big fan. We went to see the WWRY musical in Las Vegas and she fell in love. Now I can listen to as much Queen as I want in her car!! :)
