I thought id give my thoughts on this album. When it came out 10 years ago I was just starting highschool at 14 years old. I used to watch Mtv alot and when I wasnt listening to Queen. I got to see a nifty music video filmed on the old Happy Days Tv set. The name of the song was Buddy Holly, it was funny and very clever video I must say. I picked up the cd then after and gave it a listen ...at first I thought of them as a Nirvana clone. But after playing thru it a few times it hit me... these guys are geeks! And you thought geeks were lame ... personally I think that it was just what the music industry needed. Being someone who was made fun of in high school for being chubby I myself could also associate myself with the geeks of my school as I was always being picked on and teased. Some of the other songs on this album such as The undone sweater song, and In The Garage sort of bring out the ol high school/ part scene or get together with all your friends and have a good time type of feelings. Where as In the Garage talks about something I have done on occasion technically not in my garage but in the privacy of my own bedroom. Many days I sat there playing air guitar and singing along to tunes from my favorite groups like Queen and Kiss and others but id always get embarassed if someone walked in on me and caught me playing air guitar. My life always seemed like it was put on film or showcased so to say so everything i did was magnified. Which brings me to another thing about this group that I like the bring out in the open how to get through the fear of rejection with thier song Only in dreams. That song tells a picture perfect story of boy meets girl at dance boy gets girl and boy melts. Now on the second disc for the first time in their brief history we have a collection of b-sides and never before heard kitchen tapes and live performances which I thought was a nice touch and shows their earliest material...(something that Queen should have done imo). I think this is a good buy if you like this group which ive run into a few people here on Queenzone that like Weezer so yeah give it a try and listen to the b-sides too as they are equally as good as any album track.

P.S : Sorry for such a long post.
Hey Ron J Ogrebattle,
I am very mcuh in agreement that Weezer's 'Blue' album is a modern masterpeice - a great synthesis of classic rock and pop songwriting values (full of superb instrumental hooks and vocal arrangements) and the post grunge aesthetic (but with the 'outsider' being an out and out geek, this time - making the whole thing more fun than the bogstandard tales of alienation). Songs like 'Surf Wax America', 'My Name Is Jonas', 'Buddy Holly' and, well, the rest of the album, can make me smile and tap along to them everytime, no matter how much of a bitch the day has been.
The bonus disc is very interesting too - the b-sides are equal to anything on the album proper.
I was actually lucky enough to see the Weez in London the other night It were really good, it were. The band is tighter than ever, and the new songs stood up to the old favourites from 'Blue' and 'Pinkerton'. 'Tired of Sex' and'Haunt you everyday' were particlarly fantastic - 'Haunt you' had an amazing instrumental passage at the end.
Old man Rivers was much quiter than usual. I can actually see him giving up the rock star game very soon, sadly.
Actually I kinda disagree with him giving up the rock biz. But if he does it will be a sad departure for the gener. What I think will happen is they will probably take another hiatus... and when they come back if they come back they will kinda be more mellow...
I remember that back in the mid 90s when Weezer, Green Day, and The Offspring came out it was a BLESS!!
Rock radio was so oversaturated with fuckin' grunge and listening to the same depressing crap over and over again was starting to become annoying. Those 3 bands truly saved us from shooting ourselves.
I totally agree with ya on that too Jingles. I had another flashback besides weezer too when i was in the store , spencers, yesterday I heard Green Day performing the song Geek Stink Breath off of the Nimrod cd.
