Why do a lot of (grown-up) Queen fans go to conventions horribly dressed as Freddie and sometimes as oher band members? I mean they are not original and they make you feel a shame your a queen fan cause they look horrible and childish. If I see these pix, I doubt wether I should go to a queen convention: Look: link link Horrible |

link The one supposed to be Brian looks instead like Howard Stern! This is why I don't want to go to the conventions. Some people take things WAY too far. Like those Star Trekkies. LOL! The only conventions I have been to, back in the 1980's I went a few years to the Baltimore Science Fiction Convention, Balticon. And some things were way cool. Great memorabilia for sale. Guests signing autographs. A movie room. Then...there were people dressed as every science fiction character you can think of..and worse...they BELIEVED they were those characters. Me and my friends wore regular clothes. One year some lady and her husband came dressed I guess as aliens, and SO were their infants and toddlers. Then she ..very seriously..introduced her, her husband, and her children as like "Hi I'm Moonunit and this is my Husband Zotran from the Planet BluBla, and these are our children Zenowheze and Xtopher" you get the drift. I was like.."ok".... Suffice it to say, I stopped going to Balticon becuz of all the cuckoos. |

If it's harmless and they're having fun I see nothing to be ashamed of. As for me I wouldn't be caught dead dressing up as anybody else at a convention. And Arlene was right about the guy dressed as Brian May. He looks more like Howard Stern but fatter. Too funny |

I was expecting to see some pretty horrific-looking "Freddies" at the gigs I went to in UK, but I only saw one "Magic Tour" jacket, and the guy looked OK in it. RE: The people in those pix at the beginning of this thread . . . I'm sure they were having a great time, and I've got to give it to the Roger wannabe for calling to mind the legendary Roger Taylor "green hair incident." Truly inspired! RE: Howard Stern/Brian May Separated at birth? When Brian did the Howard Stern Show (back in 1993?) Brian was being mistaken for Howard by many people in New York--and in New York fashion, they were yelling out to Brian, "Hey Howard!" etc., and the closer he got to the studio, the more confusion there was. Not that I think Brian looks like Howard, but if you were to say "Find me the tall guy with the long, curly hair" I could see where there would be confusion. Howard's a few inches taller than Brian. Brian's guitar skills are a tad better than Howard's ;-) Actually, Freddie's guitar skills are better than Howard's. MY guitar skills are better than Howard's. Johnny KNOXVILLE's guitar skills are better than Howard's . . . you get the idea. |

I think it is great that they are getting into the swing of it, although not necessarily my cup of tea. From the outside a lot of people who are having fun seem stupid; I know I do when I am with my mates and we are messing about, even at my age. |
iron eagle 14.06.2005 18:52 |
although i myself would never costume it--i am after all my own best costume... Breakthru pics-- 1- its called a costume contest-- prizes are given... from cash to signed items 2- fines for not going in costume-- goes to the charities...almost everyone though puts money in the jar 3-- it lasts about an hour not the whole convention.... 4 -- its done for fun and its not a requirement... aint nobody forcing them to do it--- -- for the most part-- *shock* people simply wear Queen t-shirts! one should try before knocking :-)) |

I actually think that would be really fun! Finding really clever ways to dress up can be quite challenging, and rewarding too. I think they've got pretty awesome costumes, and as long as they're only dressing up like that on suitable occasions (like a Queen convention - not daily or anything), I don't think it's shameful at all. To be honest, I think it's kinda cool. :P |

Ever heard of 'Halloween', people??? Kah-rist, for one hour yaz get to act a bit silly. And admire the creativity of many. Or see how hot your wife looks in a wig and a low-cut outfit (mimicking silly Peter Straker and Roger and Freddie from TGP vid), while you wear white pants with colored tape along the side and a wonderful copy of the Wembley jacket a friend has lent you. Hey, it was yet another way to make it onto a fan club back cover:-)) And, don't be mocking Hector!!!!!!! He's one of those you've put down. A nicer person you couldn't find. He has literally 'smoked' more than one convention with his Freddie impersonation. An hour later, it's back to shorts and tee shirts. The 'sperm girls' will always rule in our books. And, some of the charity money found its way to Johns Hopkins, where a female doctor recently received a 700 G grant from the Elizabeth Glaser Foundation to help battle the fight against AIDS. (I'll hunt the name down soon). Shame on those rotten people for doing good deeds and having some fun doing it. It's the 24/7 obsessive (clued-in as well as clueless) fanatics that scare us more. btw, Paul, your outfit is always divine. joe, wife, dog+ |

those pics were taken at the first US fan club convention in 2001.. I know because I was there.. I have similar photos.. the "Roger with the green hair" person is Erin, she paid over $1000.00 for a pair of DRUMSTICKS, she sat right next to me during the bidding.. her husband said that it was her money and she could spend it the way she wanted to... everyone there had fun... and Arlene.. FUNNY that you should mention Star Trek costumes.. as at THAT convention I dressed in MY Star Trek uniform.. I will have to dig it out again, (The picture.. not the uniform.. it don't fit) and I will post it... AND HERE IT IS: link |
