Does anyone know of any specific interviews done by Brian/Roger that promote the Freddie Tribute in some way? Most likely these would come between February and April 1992.
I've looked around and can't find many listed, though I know they exist. For instance, the week before the concert Brian did an interview with the radio program Rockline here in the States, and Rockline broadcast the Tribute a week later. Were they any other similar interviews done in the UK or in other countries? What about print interviews?
Any info is appreciated
I remember that interview, becuase they played it during prime time, the concert was a mini event in most High schools becuase those bands that player were still quite popular (Metallica-GNR)
But I dont have it
It sold out on the day it went on sale, so there was no need for any promotion. Why put yourself through inane interviews with nothing to sell?
I do recall them both doing Breakfast TV shortly after announcing it, but at that stage it was still Freddie obituary time (apologies to those on here who didn't know he was dead).
I see your point about not needing to promote the event for ticket sales, but there still was a need to promote the television event and the concept of AIDS awareness, I think. Why else would Brian spend 90 minutes on USA radio then?
But, conceding the point to PG for a moment, what type of press did exist leading up to the show? Was anybody talking to the press, or was it merely speculation as to the events of the day?

LOL
They originally announced it at the Brit Awards when they picked up an award (I think for best single - but I have a crap memory).

No, you were right. The best single award was for TATDOOL. It was in early 1992 too that they announced it, when the Brit Awards happened.
The papers were speculating about Madonna and all sorts of people, but the set list was issued to the press the day before, so reading a couple of newspapers gave a good indication (although some still managed to keep the previous rumours in - a bit odd when you have the facts).
Zeni would anything like this be on microfiche or microfilm in a University library? Don't they always keep older newspapers on file? That is if it were in a newspaper. Maybe some magazines are in University libraries too on microfiche or microfilm???
I have no clue though, as usual.
It's possible, but I suspect any American newspapers that carried a story on the Tribute Concert probably did after the show and probably used the Associated Press feed. That means regardless of the newspaper, it was the exact same story.
More than likely any decent press before the show would have had to come from the UK. I wonder how the press then would compare to what we are seeing for the Live 8 shows.
I know in colorado springs they did a special on that tribute concert, and the free TV guide booklet that comes with the sunday paper had Freddie on the cover and about 3 pages on info every one knows about now, I still have it, not in great condition, but still a rare item, as I doubt any one esle saved this TV guide booklet after 14 some years
