Banquo 11.06.2005 03:18 |
I'm bored so let's have a play of this fine. majestic game. Right Republic rules (just the same as Senate rules but no left-sided gambits) I'll start with 'Sloan Square' over to you........... |
Brimon 11.06.2005 05:29 |
Nice opener, if a little unconventional, I'll plump for, Oxford Circus. |
Bohardy 11.06.2005 06:55 |
Im pretty sure this is allowed under the most recent revised rules: Holland Park (Good luck to the next player getting out of that one easily!) |
brENsKi 11.06.2005 08:02 |
i didn't think you could player Holland Park without Turnham Green having already been played? but i bow to your greater knowledge let's see which of the three options the next player chooses to follow my turn, Bayswater |
Flashman 11.06.2005 09:44 |
I almost played Tottenham Court Road then, forgetting the Hammersmith jink! Instead, I'll use my first gambit, and go for Chancery Lane, which was my only real option. |
Banquo 11.06.2005 12:14 |
Oooh very good. Given previous moves I have to plump for.... North Acton |
Haystacks Calhoun 11.06.2005 12:42 |
I must pull out the penultimate move...... Filthy Sanchez |
Haystacks Calhoun 11.06.2005 12:43 |
And I shall follow the Filthy Sanchez gambit with the rarely attempted Hot Karl |
brENsKi 11.06.2005 13:07 |
Haystacks Calhoun wrote: And I shall follow the Filthy Sanchez gambit with the rarely attempted Hot Karlwell i was going to go Goodge Street, but as he crashed in with Hot Karl - it kinda left the floodgates open for a directly legal move straight to.... Mornington crescent haha - i win!!! cheers haystacks |
Brimon 11.06.2005 13:08 |
Well really, if you're not going to take the game seriously. I see where you are going with North Acton, and I'm not falling for that one. So I shall choose, hmmm, Great Portland Street, or is that a little too obvious. |
brENsKi 11.06.2005 13:10 |
Brimon wrote: Well really, if you're not going to take the game seriously. I see where you are going with North Acton, and I'm not falling for that one. So I shall choose, hmmm, Great Portland Street, or is that a little too obvious.41 seconds too late mate - GAME OVER!!!! |
Banquo 11.06.2005 14:35 |
Brimon is right actually after Great Portman Street there is only two real plays and I'm only going to tell you one. Euston Square |
brENsKi 11.06.2005 15:02 |
Banquo wrote: Brimon is right actually after Great Portman Street there is only two real plays and I'm only going to tell you one. Euston Squarebut all moves were void once i won, so forget it Great portman st was void because i already completed - why can't you read? |
Flashman 11.06.2005 15:18 |
How can you complete without a Terminal Wildcard? Good move Banquo, but perhaps a touch aggresive. I think it's time we threw Embankment into the equation. Mind the gap! |

Flashman wrote: How can you complete without a Terminal Wildcard? Good move Banquo, but perhaps a touch aggresive. I think it's time we threw Embankment into the equation. Mind the gap!incorrect. i played Mornington Crescent because of the small loophole in the rules that you can MC early following two successive plays from the same person! |
Brimon 11.06.2005 18:30 |
Yes, but the two successive moves that you played Mornington Crescent on, were illegal. I refer you to the 1971 publication,Rules and Origons of Mornington Crescent by 'NF Stovold. Tad early for the Embankment Flashy, I can tell youre a bit of a risk taker playing that, so you leave me no choice but to play, Swiss Cottage. |
brENsKi 11.06.2005 18:35 |
you can't play Swiss Cottage after any non-existent - or no longer functioning station so your move is void...thought you knew the rules? |
Brimon 11.06.2005 18:43 |
Me thinks not.;) link |
Banquo 12.06.2005 01:07 |
Swiss Cottage. Jesus what a good move! The old 76 right-sided manoeuvre still works then. In that case I'll have to plump for 'White City'...... |
Flashman 12.06.2005 04:43 |
Jeepers, you chaps can play! But I've no little experience myself - and at this level when someone plays White City, rather than use the first of my en passants, I'll plump for Temple and hang the consequences. |
Brimon 12.06.2005 06:26 |
Well you say you have little experience Flashy but I think you're bluffing, its the oldest trick in the book, and I'm not falling for it, playing Temple after Banquo's White City indeed. You make me laugh. *laughs in a haughty manner and slaps thigh in a rather camp way, but not so camp as to make you think I was gay, just enough to make you wonder.* Now, I'm quite limited in my choice but I do have an ace up my sleeve. Kilburn Park. |
Banquo 12.06.2005 08:00 |
Kilburn Park is an excellent choice but unfortunatly limits the next move to just three so Mansion House it is. |
Lisser 12.06.2005 08:37 |
I want to learn how to play. |
Penetration_Guru 12.06.2005 11:08 |
It's been a long time, but I always used to expect to see Aldwych played by now. |
Flashman 12.06.2005 11:57 |
At last, I can use the Victoria Switch and play Pimlico. Get out of that! |
Lester Burnham 12.06.2005 12:04 |
Lisser wrote: I want to learn how to play.Apparently us Americans are out of the loop. I'll teach you! |
Bohardy 12.06.2005 13:32 |
Pimlico Flashy? Are you sure about that? REALLY sure? Did you just completely forget that Banquo had already played Mansion House, allowing me to invoke the Trellis Variation and deftly escape Pimlico by playing Gloucester Road? |
Brimon 12.06.2005 16:21 |
'The Trellis Variation', classic! Its been a long time since I've seen that one played, but it always makes me chuckle. I'm going to throw in a bit of a curve ball (thought I'd say that to please our American cousins), and I'm going to play Aldwych, I know it normally gets played early on Penetration, but surely anytime is a good time to play Aldwych, and when you're in such a juxtaposition as myself, this really might be the last time I play the Central Line without avoiding the ammendment to the 5th law of side-stepping. Has anyone else noticed how similar this game is to the 1982 final between, Doggett and Kraussmen. Just a thought. |
Flashman 13.06.2005 02:48 |
And just like Doggett, I'm going to follow Aldwych with Parson's Green and invoke a 'Zone 3 Freeze'. |
Banquo 13.06.2005 11:57 |
Shit Flashy. As its a 'zone three freeze' I have to use something my Father taught me on cold winter nights playing this game. Any freeze, whatever zone, can and should be followed by the famous Finsbury Park. As you should all knopw this is also a overland station as well and we all know what happens when one of them is thrown in. |
-fatty- 2850 13.06.2005 13:02 |
There's a Glaswegien version of this game but it normally ends up with someone getting stabbed within three moves. Anyway, I'm giving odds of 4-1 on Bohardy winning. fatty |
Flashman 13.06.2005 15:26 |
Well played, Banquo - you've called my treble bluff. Seeing as I've already played Embankment, I've nothing left to follow that manoeuvre. I have no choice but to fold. |
Brimon 14.06.2005 04:47 |
As you've put an overland station into the equation Banquo you leave me no choice but to play my get out of Finsbury Park free card, I do hope this does not contravene the full house patent rule of 1930. And so I move to Neasden. You do realise Flashy that you could have had the game won with your next move. Shame that! |
Flashman 14.06.2005 13:15 |
***ANTI-FOLD CARD*** Aha! You've fallen for the oldest trick in the book, Brimon! As if I would have made a genuine fold move at such a key point of the contest - especially so soon after invoking a 'Zone 3 Freeze'! (I refer you to the Schmidt-Dogget World Semi-Final 2001, and the subsequent change to the rules following the bitter Jubilee/Victoria Semi-Jink flyover amendments). But I admit that Neasden has caught me completely off guard, so this time I genuinely will have to fold, making my above move redundant. |
Banquo 14.06.2005 13:43 |
I remember a match in 1978 when Garden played Neasden there was uproar at the sheer audacity of the move then an even bigger cheer when the gathered masses realised that it was the only way to get out of the full house patent move of 1930 (remember in under-21's this does not exist). I honestly can't think of the next move without breaking the 'Shatner's Basoon' rule. |
Flashman 14.06.2005 15:29 |
Some player, was Garden. The People's Champion if ever there was one. Lived as a recluse for the last 25 years. Some folk reckon they've played him on-line y'know, but it can't be proved it's him. He broke the ten year Shepton Mallet monopoly of the title, and the game hasn't been the same since. |
Brimon 15.06.2005 07:31 |
Lisser wrote: I want to learn how to play.Well by now Lisser you should have a very good idea as to how the game is played, and I hope to see you participating in future games. I'm invoking the 24hour Northern Line Buskers ruling, paragraph 3. Which I would like to rename on this occassion as, 'Lissers Flange Movement. And hence, thus, and therefore play, MORNINGTON CRESCENT. |
Penetration_Guru 15.06.2005 13:22 |
Aren't you offside though? |
Bohardy 15.06.2005 14:15 |
The offside rule was abolished in 1989 PG. Did you not read the Brent-Lyttleton Report that successfully proved that the offside rule was unfairly biased towards left-handed players? |
Flashman 15.06.2005 14:41 |
A masterstroke Brimon, I haven't seen such a wonderful flange for a long while. And, if I may so, a move eerily reminiscent of Garden himself. Hmm... I wonder? |
Banquo 16.06.2005 12:17 |
A fine performance from everyone involved. Look out for the All-England and Isle Of Man Gentleman's Club Knock-out this Summer I think it starts 19th August in Knobscratche in Herefordshire. Guest of honour? The fine player Rushton. Not played since 1996. |
