Far from newbie, I've been a Queen fan since the seventies, and saw Queen three times in the 80's with Freddie in all is glory! just coudn't make up those mubling words and my lyrics book doesn't mention them. Cool, thanks .
freddie couldn't have sung that song.....the pitch and the style are suited to Roger's vocal - the song would've had to be re-arranged completely to suit FM's voice...and therefore would no longer have been "Drowse" as we know it
this is the reason Brian and Roger sing some of their own songs - style and pitch
And I'm go glad they did sing their own songs, at least for a while. I really missed them when Freddie became the exclusive singer. And there is a question that I have never seen an answer to. Why *did* Brian and Roger stop sining on studio albums? I read an interview with Roger and when asked he said, "Dunno." There you have it. lol
they didn't stop singing on albums deliberately
there's two angles to this
as the band got into the 80s - ALL of them were writing hit singles - so stuff like hammer/gaga/dust/ etc was always going to have the lead singer doing vocals for sales/radio etc
then by 89 they decided to give equal credit for everything so invariably (although we know who actually wrote what) Fm would sing anything that could get released as single
there's also the autobiographical nature of many of the last three albums songs - who else but FM would sing them?
There were some B-Sides in the 80s. Hijack My Heart,
Human Body,......! Brian and Roger still sang some of their songs but these tracks weren´t on the albums!
Why not? Some of them were really great!
"I think I'll be Clint Eastwood
Oh no, Jimi Hendrix, he looks good
Let's try William The Conqueror
Now who else do I like?"
And after that you can hear him mumble more
"I think I'll be Clint Eastwood
Oh no, Jimi Hendrix, he looks good
Let's try William The Conqueror
Now who else do I like?
Pim and Niek, now they are great"
Kind of, note they all hit very high notes (Resurrection, All God's People, More Of That Jazz), and very low (Sleeping On The Sidewalk, Your Kind Of Lover, I Wanna Testify)
