do you think q&pr will make a stop at this gig? |
Mr Mercury 31.05.2005 19:46 |
Brian has already said that they are gigging elsewhere on that day. |
doremi 31.05.2005 19:56 |
And I also already said that's horse hockey. IF Brian & Queen+Paul Rodgers TRULY wanted tp play the Live 8...they can STILL play Lisbon the same day and jump a chopper or plane to also play at Live 8. Phil Collins played at BOTH London & Philly, USA the same day on 2 continents at the Original Live Aid..and I'm sure that was NOT easy. Taking the Concord notwithstanding...due to a terribly exhausting and demanding literally to the second time constrant, shuttles from and to each airport, differences in time zones, jet lag ...and Collins played sevveral sets at Wembley/London both solo, and with Sting,... ...then in the USA in Philly with Eric Clapton & then with Led Zeppelin. So blah, blah,...this would be extremely excellent International exposure for Queen+Paul Rodgers...so if they REALLY wanted to do it...they easily could. Lisbon ain't near as far from London...or any of the other Live 8 cities' concerts in Berlin, Paris, Rome...they could do those too..or London. Excuses, excuses....Yawn |

Maybe they weren't asked? Queen+PR might not be considered A list... If they wanted to play it, they could. If there is a will there is a way. |

In the unlikely and hypothetical event of playing both shows, I think that they could play live 8 first, and be one of the first acts of the afternoon, maybe even the opening act, and then go to Lisbon. It wouldn't be a good ideia to play Lisbon first, and then fly to London, or wherever to play Live 8, due to some reason: one of them is that the show in Lisbon is scheduled to start at 8pm, so they won't finish before 10:30, which is to late to fly anywhere and play, even London which is in the same time zone; another one is that no fan who will go to Lisbon wants to see them in a hurry to finish the show But even playing London and then Lisbon poses several problems: all the major equipment will be in Lisbon, so they must have doubles like drums and amplifiers ( they wouldn't be allowed to use all of their own equipment in Londdon, like lights, speakers and so on...), but this doesn't really seem like a big deal...they have money for extra equipment; One bigger deal would be the setting of Lisbon, as it is the first stadium concert (I'm not sure if Fyllingen is stadium or not, but anyway) they have to be prepared and concentrated to make a proper show, including the previous soundchecks, which requires to be at the place some time before...it´s not just landing and playing. The advatages of doing both shows properly would interesting: - 20 years after, being present again at the event - getting more international acclaim on the tour, something that 46664 wasn't big enough for - I could allow an hour delay in Lisbon, so it would start around nine and I would get the whole show at night, which I prefer because I want to have all the feeling of the light set - maybe they could put a good first part band in Lisbon (the ticket already says +guests, but I think they mean Danny, Spike and Moses) - it would be cool for us Lisbon concert goers to see them coming directly from the Live Aid to the show, maybe they could even land there in a helicopter, like in the old times - for all the fuss, Brian and Roger would make an autograph session or something like that, so I could get my Red Special signed..and increased in value Another funny, and very theoretical, solution could be, and this one goes to Mr.Geldof: - as you are doing the show in different cities, you could make an extra one....guess, where? exactly: in Lisbon!!! - you would start the show around 2pm, and before Queen would come on stage we would have 6/7/8 hours of other bands...and then Queen would close the show with their normal 2.5 hours concert...and the tickets would be the ones we already have..I don't care I paid for them, and the others go for free...I prefer paying to lottery - and now Mr. Geldof tells me: but I have no more acts to put in Lisbon, they are all in the other cities!!! don't worry..you still can put in Lisbon: the Eagles, Brian Adams, Joe Cocker, the Corrs (I like those sexy sisters), Mark Knopfler, and as London is getting a reunion of the Spice Girls I want a reunion of ABBA ... and I accept more suggestions.... If anyone else wants to contribute to this plan, please feel free to add details. |

If there is a will there is a way.Maybe..Queen+Paul Rodgers should extend the hand of good will, and OFFER to play to Bob Geldof...as this is for charity/benefit/good cause. Do the right thing...and offer/ask to perform. If Queen+Paul Rodgers cant be in BOTH Lisbon & London, then do a satellite hookup from Lisbon. In 1985. at Live Aid INXS did a satellite hookup/link from Australia and Autograph did a satellite hookup/link from Russia...Come on Queen+Paul Rodgers get with the program!!!! |

The (on paper) simple solution is to postpone the gig in Portugal. All tickets bought can be used at a rescheduled gig later in the year. The simple fact is that Queen and Paul Rogers HAVE to be in London to perform at this gig. It seems such a waste for the band not to be involved. You can bet your bottom dollar that Roger, Brian and Paul would rather be in London and they have the power to make it so. This is a landmark gig and we want Queen part of it. Portugal will wist away on the mists of time as simply another gig as part of a tour. What's Jim Beach's phone number for Chrissakes! |

We'd be ringing that mother off the hook. Well as my African American friends here in the USA say and have taught me alot of their vernacular slang...this bloody situation is "Off The Hook"...(slang for NOT good...very, very bad)...WORD my brother! Yo..Jim Beach...book Queen+Paul Rodgers at Live 8. Word Up!!!! Oh wait I found Jim's phone number. 1-888-no clue. You can also try 1-888-clueless. |

And i really don´t like the fact that the simplest solution is to postpone the concert in Portugal. it´s a total desrespect for the people who bought tickets before Live 8 was even planned, like i did. Perhaps if Gueldof had planned this earlier, it was still possible for Live 8 to be on the 8 of july, and to have Queen on the bill!! Really, i understand the british fans frustation but live goes on. People just can´t cancell something to be on Live 8 like it was the smartest thing to do. In live aid 85 both BB King and INXS participated via satellite link. Why Queen can´t do the same? To cancel a gig (if not for medical reasons) is the most desrespectfull thing that an artist can do to it´s fans. This matter is really geting on my nerves. IS IT THE BRITISH PRESS that want Queen in London or is just the fans? - Because if it is the british press i really don´t get it. The ones that spent 30 years saying Queen were shit!! If you want Queen in London just wait four more days for the Hyde Park concert. And let me tell you something - Portugal is probably the most suportive Queen country in the world since 1975, and they never toured here (i´m from Portugal), so i don´t think that postpone the concert would be the right decision. The thing is: Queen obviously want to participat at Live 8. Gueldof and the fans want them to participate. So, Just put the satellite link to Lisbon that night. Please just don´t say that Queen have to be in London to participate, that sounds ridiculous!! And about Duran Duran, Andrea Boceli, etc. Where do they have to be? Take care |

Why can't Queen+Paul Rodgers return the favor...to Geldof and to this VERY important worthy cause? |
Mr. Farenheit 02.06.2005 22:04 |
I predict this "concert" will be a flop. Did you see some of those lineups? Who cares? Things have changed a lot since 85.....including the death of Rock and Roll. They would be wise to stay away....its going to be a joke. |

can anybody tell me which tour manager messed up on that one?? don't tell me they booked portugal and did not know about live 8 happening on the same day? don't think they just planned live8 2 weeks ago! someting's wrong here. queen are the reason that they still talk about live aid1 in the first place, hence they MUST perform live8, no matter what! |

I hope so.... linkWell....I go on the Official Live 8 website every day, & several times a day, (for additional artists performing in each city, changes, etc. and it updated today.. and SO FAR, Queen are not yet on it....but...then the press said an ENTIRE month before Geldof would confirm it, that Pink Floyd were reuniting and performing...a month later..the official announcement was made. In the meantime, here is the official website. Click on concerts, then click on each city..London, Paris, etc. link I also update my blog daily too to refelct all additional artists and changes on my blogs listed below. |

Also...there are some errors on that BBC site. BOTH The Cure and Muse are playing in PARIS, at the Palais de Versailles, NOT in London at Hyde Park. Also....did you notice it says THE WHO are performing? But there is no confirmation from Geldof...yet...on The Who performing at Live 8...but..where there is smoke...there is..fire.. HMMMMMMMMMM |
Han 20.06.2005 15:50 |
The Who say they're performing, too. link |
DragonOnMyBack 21.06.2005 09:34 |
I have heard/read that The Who were performing as well from quite a few sources but nothing official announced yet from Geldof. I agree the Live 8 site is best for confirmed acts and can see they have updated this now to show Muse/Cure in Paris but other sources appear to get some info before the official annoucement/web page. In most cases they have been right. The latest thing I read in one of the UK papers yesterday was that The Sex Pistols are reforming to take part (at least the ones that are still alive). Time will tell if this turns out to be true. |

What a cheap title... "Live 8 - The Long Walk To Justice" instead of "The Long Walk To Freedom" (46664) Queen can't be at Hyde Park, because they are in Portugal... It's unlikely they're going to move their asses like crazy dogs. But I'm sure they'll be involved in some way. |

From My blog today: Motley Crue, Canada On Board For Live 8 Plus Updates Galore! By Arlene R. Weiss Copyright June 21, 2005 Bob Geldof has officially confirmed that Canada, has now come on board becoming the 6th country of the G8 nations, to participate and hold one of the Live 8 concerts also to be simultaneously held on Saturday July 2, 2005. Toronto will host the Canada leg of the Live 8 concert which will be held at Park Place. Canadian natives Dan Akroyd and Tom Greene are hosts for the event. Topping a bill of the Creme de La Creme of Canadian music artists is American hard rocking superstars, the reunited one and only Motley Crue. Here’s the lineup as of 6/21/2005, with additional artists and updates to come. Toronto: Motley Crue’ Deep Purple Bryan Adams Blue Rodeo Bruce Cockburn Barenaked Ladies Our Lady Peace The Tragically Hip African Guitar Summit The Bachman Cummings Band Doba Caracol featuring Kna’an Gordon Lightfoot Great Big Sea Jann Arden Les Trois Accords Sam Roberts Simple Plan Tegan and Sara Tom Cochrane In other Live 8 news, The Cure will be headlining at the Palais de Versailles, Paris, France Live 8 concert, and additionally, Muse, Sheryl Crow, Shakira, and Tina Arena have joined the roster of that concert. PINK FLOYD!!!! And once again…to reconfirm, a reunited Pink Floyd will be performing at London’s Hyde Park Live 8 concert, seeing the first performance of all 4 original members, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Rick Wright in some twenty years. The relationship between Waters and Gilmour has been contentious at best over the years, with Waters even suing Gilmour at one point for touring under the Pink Floyd banner. But leave it to Sir Bob Geldof himself, (who portrayed the character of Pink in the film adaptation of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”), to serve as the ultimate peacemaker and bring back together, this legendary band, for what is perhaps the most highly anticipated act and performance of Live 8. Gilmour, often recognized himself as quite the altruist to charitable causes, has stated that “Like most people, I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world. It’s crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if reforming for this concert will help focus attention, then it’s got to be worthwhile.” While more and more artists are continually joining the lineup at each of the Live 8 concerts, 2 stars that have voluminous rumours swirling of their performing at Live 8, are The Who, and also, a potential satellite link performance by Queen who are touring Internationally with Paul Rodgers doing the fronting honors, with the link being from their July 2nd concert performance in Lisbon, Portugal. While confirmation is still pending on both The Who and Queen+Paul Rodgers, fan websites are in a feeding frenzy as was also the case prior to the official confirmation of the reunion and performance of Pink Floyd at Live 8. In addition, activist, artist, and musician Peter Gabriel will be hosting The Eden Project, Africa Calling with Senegalese superstar Youssou N’Dour in Cornwall, England. Here’s the lineup for this companion concert to Live 8, also held Saturday July 2, 2005 whose aim is to highlight and feature musicians from Africa, assisting the cause of Live 8. Eden Project/Africa Calling: Angelique Kidjo Maryam Mursal Salif Keita Thomas Mapfumo Tinariwen Daara J Shikisha Ayub Ogada Modou Diouf and O Fogum For all daily confirmed updates, including participating artists, venues, cities, log onto this blog daily and check the Official Live 8 website. link By Arlene R.
