One thing that gets me about Queen band there all try and recreate the Wembley 86 gig none of them can come up with something original, yes 86 was a great gig but some new please |
Slightly Dazed 28.05.2005 19:31 |
The only tribute band I've seen is Mercury, I was rather impressed! Only problem was the shortness of "Brian" but that cant be helped. |
theuniqueme 30.05.2005 10:31 |
I've been to see Mercury too! They were really good, it was just not a very receptive audience when I saw them. Another band I went to see was Killer Queen, they were very good too (and american o.O;) |
yamamamia 30.05.2005 12:57 |

Dicky Hart 30.05.2005 21:54 |
There a bunch of irish guys called 'Flash Harry' saw them a couple of times and they are astounding. Also 'Killer Queen' are very good. Gary Mullen started of good, but he's losing his voice a bit and is struggling. maybe he not resting enough. |
All Dead 31.05.2005 00:47 |

i saw one on the 3rd May 2005 in Newcastle, i think they were called Queen + PR, they rocked, almost like the original band, could of fooled me, The music was great, the "Brian and Roger" sounded and looked exactly like the real Bri and Rog, very clever, must of been plastic surgery or somet! but the Paul Rodgers fella tries to hard, wasnt like Paul Rodgers at all, still good though! :P :P:P:P:P |
KEVPAR 31.05.2005 05:24 |
i must say i thought Ga-Ga were rubbish :-S 'Magic' are cool tho! as they dont take themselves too seriously yet they are very good at playing :-) link |

I saw Gary Mullen a few years ago now, and he was amazing, the band were crap but he had the best voice I have ever heard ( at a live show ) and I have seen a few 'great singers'. I have never experienced a singer with so much power and range it was incredable. What he is like now though I dont Know. I have never been able to knock Magic, there musicianship is second to none although they are past it now and the singer has a very weak voice. As for Flash Harry.... |
jona1 03.06.2005 16:59 |
how can you say the band where crap. David Brockett the guitarist is first class. any who say's diff needs there ears tested. this tribute band rocks big style. i have the live cd it was recorded in july 2003 nearly 2 years ago. i last saw them last year at the newcastle arena. and they keep getting better and better. yes i agree Garys voice may need a rest. but he and the works are top notch. I'll put up a couple of there tunes soon. so you can see for yourself, if you haven't heard them. P.s why are they not playing newcastle this year or whitley bay |
jona1 03.06.2005 17:01 |
i also have seen magic a couple of times not a patch on Gary mullen's band. there ok but don't seem to play the tunes at the right speed for me. saying that there are getting on a bit now like. they have been going for nearly 30 years i think. |
kyassor 03.06.2005 18:33 |
I don't like tribute bands - if the musicians are good enough then they should be able to perform new music, not rely on being copy cats and a pale imitation of what has gone before - I'd rarher fail trying my own stuff than be a 'success' pretending to be someone else. But pubs & clubs know tribute bands pull bigger crowds than most new acts so pay more for them - the tribute band members earn more money so they are happy ... just wasting their talent - but it is their choice. I've only seen one Queen tribute band and that was at the fans club's 25th birthday do in Reading - they sounded ok and I couldn't slag any of them off but I didn't really enjoy them, just put up with them. Queen & Paul Rodgers are not as good as Queen but they are better than any other attempt. |
iron eagle 03.06.2005 19:11 |
have seen a few thus far but by no means all of them from what i have seen it would be queen for a day and miracle |
jona1 03.06.2005 19:30 |
have just put up three tunes from Gary mullen and the works in the download section. One night of queen Gary mullen Tie your mother down A kind of magic Hammer to fall what do you think |

@ kyassor: If you don't like bands that play other people's music, never ever go to any orchestra anywhere in the world!!! They ONLY play music by other composers. If people having fun playing by the music they love as a hobby and entertain people that share the same love, why not? If they are making thousands of dollars out of it and turning it into a regular job, it's another matter. |

Johnnie wrote: @ kyassor: If you don't like bands that play other people's music, never ever go to any orchestra anywhere in the world!!! They ONLY play music by other composers.I'm afraid you are wrong - if you knew anything about music you would know there are new orchestral movements being written all the time by numerous composers. The reason most public recitals only play 'covers' is because that is what the paying public want to listen to, they don't always give new music a chance. You shouldn't restrict yourself to a life of covers - try thinking for yourself and stop follwoing the crowd |
Johnnie 04.06.2005 07:37 |
@ kyassor: Please, don't worry about me not knowing about music. All my life I've been into music and also have a lot of classical musicians as friends. 90% of what is being played by orchestras in theatres are the old classical compositions. And played exactly according to sheetmusic and with that they try to play exactly how they think the composer meant the music to be played. I don't see the problem with that. And especially because I talk from our point of view. We also play for fun, to entertain people that love to hear the compositions by Queen. Beside that we also write our own music. But having said that, why would it be a restriction to play great songs by a band you love? |

fair enough mate everyone has there own views on things. everyone's different |
slinky 14.06.2005 07:49 |
Which Killer Queen? I've just read there are two. link or link I think Gary Mullen's voice is great. Maybe whoever was saying he was a bit rubbish saw him when he was tired. Even Freddie's voice wore out now and then. |
4freddie 14.06.2005 15:12 |
If you havent had the chance check out "QUEEN for A Day"! Very exciting and well crafted.@ link or try these links feel free to share these as well ps seems to play best in Windows Media Player link link link link link link |
Son Of Deacon 15.06.2005 07:10 |
i've only seen flash harry, they were pretty good imo but the lead singer would be better in a johnny cash tribute or something like that. |
Aisha Sweetness 15.06.2005 09:20 |
Ive seen Flash Harry a few times the first was about 6 years ago when he sold out the Point...(The same venue Queen and PR just played in)it was a great gig. They played my local theather last year it was so weird seeing all these people i knew from my town singing and clapping away to the songs but i think i was one of few who knew all the words, cause he does really old stuff like good old fashioned lover boy etc..he's a good laugh... |

24 carat Angel 16.06.2005 16:13 |
I saw a band on holiday a few years back in Majorca, I'm sure they were Mercury. They were excellent, much better than Magic who I saw later on. Would anyone out there know if the band I saw was Mercury? |
24 carat Angel 16.06.2005 16:15 |
What I meant is is it likely this could have been Mercury? Do they do holiday resorts? |
Suigi 16.06.2005 18:56 |
I wish I could head over to Japan and check out Kween. They're the only Queen tribute band I know to release their own Queen-sounding CDs. Two of 'em. And apparently, Brian May himself has given his praise. Who cares if the lead singer is a little short and tubby? The band still kicks ass! |
The Real Wizard 17.06.2005 09:32 |
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Valensia... their tribute album is fantastic. Many songs are note-for-note lifts, but many are very original interpretations! I don't think the singer could get much closer to Freddie's tone/vibrato/range etc. |
brENsKi 17.06.2005 14:26 |

If you are in Australia, or Canada, check out Queen - A kinda Magic. Peter Freestone is touring with them . A fantastic night!!! They also plan to do London's West End in December, I think. Do yourself a favour!!! link |
