Hi,
someone told me Brian had a period of Depression about 12/13 years ago, what was it over? and the video to Too Much love Will Kill You, is obviosuly about Brian's childhood, as you could see he was upset had a tear in his eye, and was sensitive about those pictures of when he was a toddler
I know, he has attended a cure some years ago. But I doubt he had a real mental illness. We learned at school that depression is when you're sad without any cause. He had many trouble at the time: his marrige was over, his dad died, Freddie died... etc.
You're right. At the period his father had just died, his marrage has just broken up and Freddie had just died. It says in Laura Jacksons biography's ...
"In the past five years he (Brian) had endured the emotional strain of his marriage collapsing and having to combat press rumours of his affair with Snita Dobson; the intense pain of losing the father he worshipped; followed by, first, the pressure of keeping Freddie's dire secret; and then the trauma of the singer's heartbreaking decline and death.
Brian later confessed to feeling trapped in a strangely unreal existence where outwardly he behaved normally, whilst inwardly he felt that he was falling apart. By the end of the year his ability to hold it together was fragmenting fast and he was haemorrhaging confidence. He felt he didn't exist as a person anymore, and, on his own admission, nearly drove off a bridge in a bid to escape his own desolation and despair. Ultimately his inner strength pulled him back from the brink and he left Britain to find the solitude necessary to concentrate on regaining control of his emotions."

Brian has always been a sensitive person. He's a Cancer just like me and "Wolverine" are. We're sensitive and moody people. Brian's son Jimmy has a website and in it he talks about his own bout with depression.
Hi Guys,
I'm new here but I can throw in my two cents worth regarding depression as I am a long term chronic sufferer. Trust me, it's not just Cancerians who are moody and prone to depression. Yes Brian did suffer from a serious bout of depression around 1992, but due to amount of strenous events going on in his life at the time (marriage break-up, freddie dying, Harold passing away also) he had what is referred to as "Reactive Depression". Reactive depression is a bout of major depression in response to one or many traumatic events or losses within a period of time. Generally speaking, people do get over reactive depression, as Brian did. But depression can be hereditary and if others in Brian's family or his ex wife's family are prone to depression then that can make the children of that relationship more susceptible to a depressive illness and it is probably a sound explanation as to why Jimmy has also been afflicted.
Laura Jackson's book did say that Brian had more than just a fleeting thought regarding suicide, but, everyone will consider suicide at one point or another in their lives and with depression, suicidal ideation is not that uncommon. But obviously, Brian was treated and is better now, as is Jimmy from what I have read, so let this be a lesson to you all. Depression is a big load of crap, but should not be stagmatised or dismissed.
Okay, I've said my piece.

Who knows but my thoughts are that the most depressed people are usually the most intelligent! Think of how many great musicians and authors(most recently Hunter Thompson) that have taken their own lives.
Brian is either a genious(I'd bet) or at least very, very freakin smart!
Just an observation. Still laughing at the poodle comment though.
