Was it a good game or what???!!! :)
3:0 for Milan by half time and they lost!!! Yes! Gerarrd was FANTASTIC!!! And Dudek... Pretty unreliable throughout the game and than fantastic save by the end of extra time and absolutely fantastic in penalty shotout. Awesome game, classic- people will talk about for ages!
I'm a fan of Liverpool (because of Smicer and Baros, obviously) but they were the worse team yesterday, it's a miracle (and AC Milan's big fault) that Liverpool won in the end.
And I still don't understand how Shevchenko managed not to score two minutes before the end of overtime... he would deserve to be fired for this!
Well bloody hell.
I wasn't going to bother watching the second half - the game was over, everybody could see that. Alan Green on Radio 5's commentary had already proclaimed Milan champions of Europe for the seventh time, and nobody was disagreeing with him. A book I'd ordered online had arrived in yesterday's post, I was halfway through it and eager to carry on reading, and that was bound to have more entertainment value than the rest of this game, right?
Fortunately, I decided to leave the TV on with the sound off while I read, so that in the unlikely event of Liverpool getting a goal back and making things interesting I'd know. Well, as soon as Gerrard's header went in I left the book and went back to the game, and sat there gripped until 11pm.
I'm not by any stretch of the imagination a Liverpool fan, but once the comeback started it was hard not to be behind them, and I was pleased when they won the shoot-out - what about Dudek's star jump antics, eh?
So a very entertaining and exciting evening's viewing, in the end.
Feel a bit sorry for Michael Owen, though... How must he feel now?
I changed channels just before half-time cos I thought it was over and I couldn't bear to see my second team get a drubbing. Changed back after Gerrard's goal and spent the second half riveted. What a game!
There are a few sour grapes flying on the BBC messageboards but it's nice to see rival supporters congratulating an English team for doing well in Europe; whoever it is, they fly the flag for the country - even if most of the players aren't actually English!
I was meant to be watching Starsailor last night. Got to the gig about 10.45 and saw 5 songs. Well worth the £20!! There were Liverpool fans who left at half time, but left the gig when the whispers of a comeback was on. They were more than happy with their decision!
Great game, though how Liverpool won is beyond me. Luis Garcis, Kewell, Baros are three of the worst players I've seen play at such a high level club week in week out.
Don't blame it on the Biscan
Don't blame it on the Finnan
Don't blame it on the Hamann
Blame it on Traore
Great song! He had a 'mare in the first half also!
was it me or was Dudek slightly off the line when he saved the third pen? (i think) thats not taking anything away from Liverpool, they did fantastically well to come back - made it a great match.
Been a Liverpool fan all my life, used to go to every game until about 5 years ago when work commitments brought a halt to my going but that was about the best game ever.
Seeing Gerrard lift the trophy I had tears in my eyes.My brother was in Istanbul at the game and he phoned me when the crowd were singing Champions at the end.Best moment of his life he said.
Had texts of Manc and toffee twats at half time but the bastards wouldn't answer their phones when it was over.
Been to all the grounds in Britain and nothing compares to the Kop in full voice. We have support the likes off Everton and Man U Scum can only dream off.
LIVERPOOL.....KINGS OF EUROPE 2005
Jammy bastards.
First goal - Stam failing to mark Gerrard.
Second goal - offside for a while, ref didn't see it, linesman's arm gets tired.
Third goal - a dive.
From that point it was inevitable.
Dudek was all over the place, Shevchenko's last minute effort just hit him and could have gone anywhere. Carragher could barely stand and all those blocked crosses could have been own goals really easily.
There really is no justice in football at the moment.
haha, guru, you make me laugh. im not even gonna bite to your "jammy bastards" post.
Well done Liverpool, and well Done Raffa Benitez. Your first trophy of many. See the half a million scousers turning up for the parade? Amazing, no other club in the world has such a following. Didnt see those scenes when Chelsea held their premier league parade. You can buy all the players in the world, but you cant buy passionate fans.
WELL DONE LIVERPOOL, YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE.
The look on Shevchenko's face after Dudek made that incredible double save minutes before penalty shoot-outs was priceless.
I've seen goalkeepers making awesome saves, but that one was just out of this world.
haha, well done pen_guru, another classic quote from yet another jealous fan. Champions of Europe, one of the greatest nights, and I'm sure there's some bluenoses, Mancs etc who can't deny that. The parade was amazing aswell, saw them on Queen's Drive outside the Jolly Miller. The highlight was of course seeing the boys on the bus. I also enjoyed watching many of the great fans taking pictures of the press bus but another highlight of the day had to be when Gordon Burns, former presenter of the Krypton Factor, walked past us and shook our hands. A true gentleman!
Maybe they were out on the streets in north wales guru, but it doesnt take anything away from the stunning performance in the game does it?
With your constant sniping, you are just trying to take the attention away from the fact that liverpool are european champions.
Liverpool winning the Champions League has devalued the whole trophy. In terms of league points closer to getting relegated than winning the championship.
Should have been 4-0 at halftime as well.
Bitter? Sourgrapes? Yes indeedy.
