Does anybody think Rodger plays too many cymbal crashes?
Live Killers annoys me to death with constant cymbal hiss and bass drum rumble
Phil Collins has stated that he wouldn't have recorded at Trident because of the drum sound - any thought?
Yes, it's true that he hits a lot of cymbals. But that's a part of his style. I like his style , he is one of the best rock drummers ever !!!

well he used to, in my opinion he does it far less now, e.g. Radio Ga Ga, he doesnt even play that like he used to, used to be both sticks on the hiat and play that way, now its one on a cymbal and one on drum, doesnt sound the same, i guess he was just experimnetinig back then.

I was a little disappointed about that.
Not so much the sound difference, but the visual looked extra cool for some reason!
Surely, regardless of Phil Collins not liking the Trident drum sound is irresepctive of Roger's playing, since drum sound is down to the how the player likes it - and not a general thing.
Anywho, Phil Collin's bores me rotten. For me, he has no fluidity to hi splay, like a robot - in a sleeveless jumper. Rog for me is just class - he is a spectacle to watch, and thats what makes him stand out: his sheer energy, watching his arms and head fly all over the place etc. Phil Collins is like a boring old man.
So true about Phil Collins. He never thrilled me at all. The only thing I liked about his drumming is that he's a lefty like me. On hind sight I wish I broke myself to become a right handed drummer. Don Henley is another boring drummer as well. He makes Collins look like Bonzo! Well not really, but you know what I mean.
Matt Sorum...the Cult, G n' R, back to the Cult, Velvet Revolver...he uses lots of crashes, but also mixes it up on the rides and always he does a couple of songs using a little cowbell or woodblock or tambourine. he finishes off descent rolls a little differently than Roger. Hollywood Zen!
Nick Mason is a great drummer as well. Watch Pink Floyd at Pompeii where he loses the stick on One of These Days and continues to play until he gets another stick. Phil Collins is a great drummer. I guess you didn't to the drum duels he had with Chester Thompson on Seconds Out on tracks like the ending of Afterglow, Firth of Fifth, Supper's Ready or Los Endos(Phil's drums were on the right speaker), Phil is a great drummer. Worst drummer was probably Joey Kramer of Aerosmith or Bill Ward of Black Sabbath.
John Otto... now there's a good drummer.
I would imagine not many of you willingly listen to Limp Bizkit, but he really is an awesome drummer. He's trained up to the eyeballs as a jazz drummer, and to bring that to a metal band sounds amazing. It wasn't their best album by far, but his drumming on Results May Vary saved the album, and on their first album Three Dollar Bill he was just simply class.
And he has a beautiful blue drumkit, with lights inside, so it completely iluminates.

I love this "radio gaga" style of playing... But as a drummer, I have to say that it's a difficult thing to do (i mean, physically)... So that's why i think he's not doin' it anymore...
