Freddies Moustache:
I think it's always strange that the media/trash writers will say things along the lines of..."when Freddie grew a moustache...then everyone knew he must be bisexual/gay?" Lot's of people had moustaches then....think Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck, that Maradona soccer player...many others....perhaps because the media were hanging out in gay circles perhaps they knew it was even more prevalent among that crowd but I think for your average joe fan it was just the style at the time....I think some people (mainly the women) just prefered the longer hair without the moustache and then men couldn't care less....he probably looked more mature with the moustache.....anyway out there for your thoughts?
Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck were exceptions to the:
Moustache = peter eater
rule.
In the early 1980's, the bushy moustache was quinisential look of the gay male.
This look was brought to us by the hordes of gay men happening in the New York gay bars at the time.
It was known in the early 1980's that Mr. Mercury prowled around the N.Y.C area quite a bit.... and assistants of Fred's claiming that it was not uncommon for Fred to sleep with 3 to 6 different men a night.
I love Freddie, and could care less if he was gay, green, or enjoyed the company of Latino midgets.
However, 3-6 men a night I believe qualifies for gay.
I'm thinking though....unless you were living in NYC, or San Francisco, or Munich.....would your average straight guy or girl (let's say somewhere in midwest america or australia) know gay fashions?.....and I mean....there were many more straight moustached individuals out there during the 80s....it really was a fashionable look for many....certainly a look on many construction sites, police forces, sports players.....and particularly a prominent fashionable look in places like South America, Central America, Spain, Turkey, India etc....
