Hi all..! I got a question. Recently I took this game (Queen the Eye) out of the closet and I wanted to play it again. However, I can't get it working in an XP environment. I tried the option to let it work as win '95 program, but that didn't work either. Does anyone know what to do to be able to play this game again? Would love to play it again. Greetz! |

The only thing I can do is go to the setup for sounds after the installation. When I start the game I don't even get the intro, I just get a blurred screen..the only thing I can do then is press escape and curse... (maybe they should redevelop the game for XP?:) |
Daveboy35 17.05.2005 10:24 |
IT did have this game but it wouldn't work on my computer i have windows xp with the compatilblity wizard and it wouldn't take it when taken back to win95 mode,i think you would have to run it in MS-DOS mode try that. |
The Gardener 17.05.2005 10:29 |
hmm, the only thing left nowadays is the dosprompt, which is part of windows as well, so it still won't work for me..:( I could try to install ms-dos ones to see if it'll work then, but I guess it'll give conflicts too... kinda hoped someone else has tried that before I blow all the dust away, which is on the box from our old computer..:P |
John S Stuart 17.05.2005 11:44 |
This is an old game. It does not run on Windows XP. |
The Gardener 17.05.2005 11:54 |
oh really John? I haven't noticed...:/ |
pcgenius9 17.05.2005 14:54 |
One thing i can think of is having the CD inserted whilst starting up the PC. Then pressing F8 continually until you get the Windows menu and selecting Command Prompt only. then typing the filename and path into that. If that doesn't work, it should almost 90% sure, if you insert a Windows 98 bootup disk. |
The Gardener 17.05.2005 15:04 |
that's not such a bad idea genius, i'll go try it out. thanks!:) And Hero, you're quite right, it's indeed frustrating that it wasn't that long playable. Especially now with dolby surround on the pc...imagine playing the Arena now..:) |

pcgenius9 17.05.2005 16:08 |
Let me know how it goes. I will be intregued. |
The Gardener 17.05.2005 16:42 |
it failed miserably so far... I can't start in dos environment using F8, campatability didnt work, boot disk didnt do much good either. so i'm really out of ideas for now, maybe good night sleep gives new ones. If someone else cares to try than please do so, it could be me of course who does it aaaaaaaaall wrong:P |
pcgenius9 17.05.2005 17:35 |
I did an extensive google for you and it looks like you might be out of look. There is a dos version and a Windows version and it seems you have the former. Apparently though, one good suggestion is to download an MS-DOS emulator and try that. |
Hitman 17.05.2005 19:31 |
by the way it's a difficult game, i have never went out alive from the works domain :| many games have an xp patch, but for what i know not the eYe. try the msDos emulator you can enjoy the music actually ;) |
gnomo 18.05.2005 03:21 |
... did anyone try a virtual machine like VMWare? You might install that on XP, then install the right version of Windows on that and then play the game on the "virtual" operating system. Not that I ever tried (I haven't got "The eYe" at all) but that's how I hear several people get to run older programs on XP - not sure if there might be particular issues with games, though. FWIW -- Gnomo (not very computer-savvy) |
kalmark 18.05.2005 04:04 |
You could also try dosbox.sf.net |
Lee Bore 18.05.2005 07:42 |
The only thing i can think of is running a partition on your hard drive (split it into two) and install Windows 95 on your second partition. Thats if you still have a copy of Windows 95 that is, seems a shame people can't enjoy their own property just because of advances in technology!!! |
pcgenius9 18.05.2005 08:03 |
It's difficult for me to help you because I haven't got a copy of the game myself. |
The Gardener 18.05.2005 08:13 |
Wow lads..! You gave me more than enough ideas to stay busy the coming evening. Thanks for that!:) I actually ripped the music already some time ago already and made my own sing-a-long Queen CD:P no singing, just music...that's rather difficult btw:) It might be an idea to pleed somewhere for a redevelopment of the game. Could bombard the mail of Brian after the tour?:) I'll keep you updated with my frustrations tonight (in about 6 hours:) |
Libor2 18.05.2005 08:15 |
With DosBox emulator (mentioned 2 posts before) I've been able to run it to the first screen, then it's freezed :-( I didn't try it later (as I played it two times on my old Win98) so maybe with a new version of DosBox (if it exists) or with some settings experimentation it could go. |
queen_forever_87 18.05.2005 08:31 |
Yeah folks! really great idea to go play it again.... I've actually finished the game some time ago... when I still had my old computer and Windows 95... But now, as one of many I have XP and it won't work... I'd love to get it working again... see if I can beat the game again :) By the way... I used a walkthrough.. so I'm not that great ;) |
Mr. Scully 18.05.2005 09:23 |
Install VMWare, then you can install Win 98 on your computer too and play this shitty game easily. Avoid Win95 or Win2k though - these systems are crap. |
The Gardener 18.05.2005 15:57 |
ack, would you believe it. While packing my bags this morning at 6am, i completely forgot to get the arena cd outta my computer to take along to my parents house. So can't install it right now..(curse of being a student with dirty laundry and no washing machine:P..) *sigh* |
The Fairy King 18.05.2005 17:46 |
I'm GLAD it doesn't work on XP! Rubbish -.-" |
Lord Fickle 11.06.2005 08:41 |
Hi guys, I'd actually like to get a copy of this, so that I can rip the music to aid some remixes. Can anyone please confirm the specs of the proper game? I have seen relative items on eBay, but these seem to be just a book with a 'Making Of...' CD Rom. If anyone knows where I can get hold of the original game, and whether I would be able to rip the music with XP, I would be eternally grateful. |
Penetration_Guru 11.06.2005 12:57 |
The CDs are audio CDs, so yes, you can rip them. |
Adam Baboolal 11.06.2005 23:32 |
John commented that it doesn't work because this topic came up a few months back - link ...and that was the conclusion of that! It does NOT work on XP. Full stop. It should work on Win98, though. Peace, Adam. P.S. I lost the first disc in my set. Can someone make an ISO image and post it online? Or perhaps point me towards a place that has this already? Thanks. |

Did anyone else just give up on the game because of the endless keyboard combos required to move/fight? I found it very difficult to maneuver and never played it more than 5 minutes after several attempts. I play several games online that require manuverability skill to succeed (Quake/Doom/Unreal) but i just could not deal with the keyboard only aspect of The eye. |
Adam Baboolal 13.06.2005 23:24 |
I remember back in the day it was pretty tough. But once I got good at it and completed the first domain, I was starting to enjoy it. When you win, it pays off and you feel great for triumphing over such difficult odds. However, there was something I couldn't get past on the 2nd domain. Some kind of puzzle. And then, my first disc mysteriously vanished and I couldn't install the game. And that was that! Been trying to get a first disc image ever since. Anyone know where to get one? Peace, Adam. |
Grantcdn 14.06.2005 18:41 |
I'll buy the game if anyone is sick of theirs.... |

Hey Gardener (or anyone for that matter), Any chance of being able to get a copy of the songs ripped from the game? Not for sale, but just so I have the rare instrumental versions and songs which I am missing from my Queen collection. Please anyone feel free to email me at david.pedro@gmail.com Regards all, David |

I made it work on Windows XP SP2 using DOS Box 0.65. 1 - You have to transform your CDROM into .iso files. 2 - You have to mount these ISO using DOS Box. That's all folks ! Enjoy ! |

where to get this game? |

Shite moves and I gave up after 5 minutes!! Difficult keyboard combos as you say. It's just gathering dust - which is the best place for it! You need an encyclopedia to understand the combos and it's difficult to remember them anyway. I've lost the manual so I'm f*****. The game as far as I'm concerned is forgettable. You can't play it on XP or above anyway. I've just ripped the audio tracks to CD - many instrumentals of tracks so at least I've got something from it. Anyone interested in having it is welcome!! |

You can always set up a dual booting machine with XP and Win95/98 link |
