Here's my go at Hammer To Fall:- link
This is the 12" Headbangers Mix, with a few alterations. I didn't like the drum part at the beginning, with the naff edit into the guitar, so I did something a little different. I also tried to smooth over the edits between the 'old' and 'new' parts of the song, and make the EQ sound the same throughout, and I attempted to make it sound a little heavier, with Wave Hammer on Sony Soundforge. It may not be perfect, but please let me know what you think! :)

Is it possible for you to send me a copy of this in *.wma or *.wav format please? I can't download mp3's and I'm really interested in listening to your mixes, everyone else seems to be enjoying them. Cheers.

Err... I suppose I could, but they would be huge files! Can I ask why you can't download MP3s? I may have a solution to that instead, which might be a better option.
Listening to the latest edition of this mix. Great intro... (I'm commenting as I go) I really like the solo near the end (I don't know if it's yours or not because I've never heard the 12" mix). I give you a shiny, gold star :-)

Mine??!! Ha ha ha ha!!! I bloody wish! I can hardly play the main riff!

Cool intro (maybe a bit too much effects), and a very nice ending :)
Naa - gotta go for it - lol! ;)
Actually, that 'power cut' thing during the intro, was entirely an accident - it was some sort of fluke created by the 'Chorus' effect, but I couldn't recreate it if I tried! It sounded kind of cool and freaky, so I left it in. The only other part (apart from the ending) which I did, is to make a better transition at 4:26, from the extended guitar section, back into the 'normal' version, which sounded awful on the official 12" mix. Also bunged it through Wave Hammer (Sony Soundforge) to heavy it up a bit!
I like the intro and you did great making the extended part blend better than the original. It still seems to get louder when that part comes in on the left channel and I remember now that what I did when I made the Headbanger's Instrumental was swap the channels from there until it goes back, in this case, 3:27 to 4:27.
Somehow it makes it sound more natural and the change is even less noticeable when you swap that section.. I think they had the channels reversed on the extra part for some reason.
Also, about -1 db volume reduction on the same section sounds right to me. Of course, since the whole thing has been 'hammered'up it's gonna make the wave visually look much lower there but audibly it should sound even smoother. Try it out.. maybe I'm wrong but it's a simple thing to do.
It's difficult to get volumes evened out while having them look right also sometimes.
Turn the volume down?? Never!!! Lol! I know what you mean, and it goes to show different tastes, and that we hear things in different ways. The volume is actually pretty stable all the way through, but the 'new' section sounds slightly 'beefed up', because I EQ'ed it a bit, to try to make it sound the same as the original parts. The result of that was a slightly 'brighter' sound, which made the drums come out more solidly (to my ears). To me, it sounds like the band 'revved up a gear' for that section, and, in my opinion, it sounds right. I must admit, I haven't tried the channel swapping you suggested, but I will do out of curiosity.
Thanks for your comments. :)
I tried the swapping channels technique, and while it sounded OK at the beginning of the section, I just couldn't get the and of the section to swap back smoothly. Perhaps it was because that part is where I already edited it. Will have another look at it when I get more time.
Whatever sounds best to you is what's important :) It could be that I'm so used to hearing the original that I'm always gonna be hearing what I'm used to even when it's not there. LOL
That's the song I had the most trouble with on my mix. Between the different sound, what I perceived to be channel swapping, and even speed changes as I recall.
Ah, well the speed of the album and 7" versions is slightly faster - unless it's just the pitch, but I think it was both. I took the intro riff from the album version, as I didn't like the drum intro, and especially the awful edit into the guitar riff, on the 12", but had to lower the pitch for it to match.
