I just got back in my Hotel and i'm typing this on my old fucked up laptop. My first thought. WHAT AN AMAZING SHOW!! WOW! This was MUCH better than Paris and Rotterdam. I'm still deaf and shaking. And it was just a little bit longer than 2.5 hours. They dropped the terrible Beautiful Day remix. But instead they opened with the Reprise from MiH. After the first minute of Beautiful Day Brian Roger and the rest take over the song and Paul joined them for vocals. Then the setlist didn't change for a few songs. After Another one bites the dust they played Dragon Attack, which was new in the list. Rogers backign vocals were awesome and filling the arena. Brian had a wonderful screaming solo in it. Then Brian announced a song they haven't played since 1989. And you heard Roger count in. 1.2.3.4 Bang! And Danny started to play the Breakthru Bass part! Whoa, the whole arena went nuts! Paul did a fucking great job, and it was awesome to hear this song played live for the very first time. Then the setlist didn't change and one of the last songs from the "Brian and roger set" was another new one: Keep yourself Alive sang by Brian. I never heard Brian sing this one, so it was a great treat. Then they played the well known version of Bohemian Rhapsody and Paul entered the stage again. After the encore there were no surprises. Great show! And i can't wait till Koln and Arnhem!!!!! I'm still in shock! |

I went there only to buy myself t-shirt and wrist. I thought I could get it without ticket, but I was wrong as to get to the merchandise you must pass ticket/security (search) check. Anyway, once that show started (20:15) I was escorted inside and bought myself what I wanted. The girl who was standing there and selling the things was rather surprised to hear Eminem and did like it. As I was about to leave Reaching Out started and with first sounds of TYMD I decided to stay outside the venue :) It was really LOUD! Drumming was incredible. Man! It is very fast show when I come to think about it. Being outside is for sure not the same as inside so I won't make any reviews, but I must say that version of A Kind Of Magic was the best so far I heard (I still believe first few lines are done to fast/quick/short by Paul, but ok - it rocked). After that followed I Want It All which was superb. It blown me away even I was outside (and it was rather cold outside let me tell ya). I was impressed by also by fast versions of Hammer To Fall and B. Rhapsody. Very very good. I thought Bri solo was not as good as the one from Vienna (I can only compare it with what I heard), but perhaps I'm wrong here. Encore was exactly after show running 2 hours. It came quite fast to the end the - The Show Must Go On, All Right Now, WWRY and WATC. Next stop - Hyde Park - this time with ticket. Oh yeah! |
hcrvelin 11.05.2005 18:28 |
Oh yes, Last Horizon... it had one part added toward the end and for a moment I thought this is now something new... it sounded like nothing I heard before and then it came back again as finish of LH. Cool. |

I don't see Breakthru, Dragon Attack etc in the setlist, do you? |
eggy 11.05.2005 19:08 |
That set list is spot on. Going to bed, will do a review tomorrow! Was great, but there are a lot of people leaving the gig unhappy. The venue was a shithole, and those not lucky enough to have 2nd row tickets like me could not see anything. Big golf clap to the girl on the third row - lovely lovely!! |

Jon 11.05.2005 20:27 |
I certainly agree that there are many leaving the venue unhappy. I was at the NEC - 6 foot from the stage so have had my 'good gig'. I was halfway back off to the side at Wembley and couldnt see anything. I thought I'd be able to appreciate the sound and lights from afar having all the stage in my field of vision as opposed to being almost in the stage at the NEC but it wasnt to be. They couldnt fit anywhere near all of their lights on the stupidly small stage and the sound seemed way more distorted than the NEC. The acoustics were shite and the stewards were also jobsworths. Both Brian and Roger commented on the venue "god forsaken shithole" was Brian's comment and everyone around me agreed. Considering London is their hometown they should have found a better venue. It was not up to their standards. People judging their tour on that showing wont be as impressed as they should be. Jon. |
Mcm 11.05.2005 20:32 |
What an appalling venue. Absolutely dreadful. Felt sorry for the band really. Brian even apologised for how bad it was. Rotterdam Ahoy still ranks as the gig of the tour for me. |
Dilemma 11.05.2005 20:45 |
So who booked the wembley arena - was it not the same people who were calling it a crap venue tonight - IE Brian and Roger.... So who sold the front blocks of tickets to the VIP package companies and not the fans who logged onto ticketmasters web site the minute they opened only to find that all the front seats had gone ? (A VIP package company told me this) So who said that there would be no other london dates announced after wembley ? (Brian did in an email to me) Wise up people, the band are cashing in, they always did and are still milking it. The gig was not as good as Brixton from an intamacy perspective. I would have hated it if I was on the floor level. It was still crap at the Back but at least you could see the light show well and the band if you had good eyesight Can you beleive they sell bonoculars to people at the back. !!!!! The music was good, the venue and hypocritical verbage not so good ! |
leia 12.05.2005 02:13 |
While getting away from the concert here, apart from the London Arena, where else in London could have staged this concert?? London hasn't really got a venue to match Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield or Birmingham. Till this gets sorted, Wembley will always be used. While not being a fan of London, I do feel that it's something of a disgrace that they haven't a facility to match those around the country. Maybe as a part of the legacy of this Olympic bid, they will build a large multi event arena, similar the MEN Arena in Manchester. |
Oberon 12.05.2005 04:02 |
I was disappointed with the venue, as it was very long and thin, and being on the first bank of tiered seating I was almost at the back, and really couldn't see any detail. I figured that the light show was less than other gigs, and it seems so. I can see that the sound was probably not as good, and it definitely wasn't the same atmosphere as Brixton, although I think the performance was better. If I could've watched that performance at Brixton, but with all the lights, then that would've been perfect. As for who's responsible for booking Wembley? Well, it's probably more Jim Beach and the promotors than Brian or Roger. I bet the first time they saw it was when they rolled up for the soundcheck. They had to rely on their management. Maybe there was no better alternative? I might have even preferred Earls Court though than this. But nevermind, it was still great fun. I was stunned when every single person in the crowd was on their feet when Beautiful Day started - and they hadn't even dimmed the house lights yet!!! I think 99.9% of the crowd was on its feet for the whole show and were in good voice. I think there were a group of three girls who were most amused at me and my mate belting out all the songs they obviously didn't know ('39, IILWMC etc), but we didn't care. We had grown up musically to this stuff. Great night regardless of the problems. Looking forward to Hyde Park!!! |
eggy 12.05.2005 04:42 |
Earls Court (God forsaken hole that it is) should have held the Queen gig. Reason it wasn't chosen is because it was previously booked. Last week was Kylie, this week was Rod Stewart (although the gigs were cancelled due to illness). I had 2nd row tickets, and I was no VIP - same goes for the people around me. I did see Rick Parfitt out of Status Quo though! I agree with Oberon - better performance than Brixton - but the atmosphere was awful. A combination of the venue, seating as opposed to standing and just a boring crowd. |
DragonOnMyBack 12.05.2005 05:01 |
I agree with Brian, Roger and most other people on this thread that the Wembley Pavillion is a seriously crap venue. I was in block B5 quite near the front (in terms of seat rows(Row : 23) on the left hand side and the view from there was pretty bad. God knows what it was like for anyone who was even further away. They should seriously consider re-opening the Arena as soon as possible (never thought I would be saying that). The main problems with the tent was : 1) It is all seated ( even though everybody decided to stand for the whole concert). Why not just get rid of the seats. 2) It is way to long and thin. They could have had a nice long catwalk to help the people at the back to see something, but it was the usual length. I guess if they had a longer one to reach the people at the back it would have taken Brian half and hour to get back to the main stage after doing 39/Love Of My Life. The usual glitter ball effect during Last Horizon was poor due to the only spotlight being used to highlight it was right at the back of the tent. The effect did not even reach the front half of the tent. The ball being in the middle of the tent. 3) The acoustics were poor, even though I think the lads were on pretty good form. The guy who said he listened outside probably had a better view than half the people inside ;-) Of the 5 gigs I have been to on this Tour this is by far the worst venue. That's my rant bit over now for a little positive stuff. The setlist was the same as Sheffield (see post above) with a slight change in the early running order around AOBTD/CLTCL/UP. I thought all the lads were on top form. Intro tracks were the usual Beautiful Day Remix and Lose Yourself, Paul appeared from behind the curtain for Reaching Out closely followed by Brian for Tie Your Mother Down. And the show progressed well. Best tracks on the night I think were Say Its Not True, I Want It All, The Show Must Go On, Hammer To Fall. To sum up despite the venue the lads put up a sterling performance. |

What a great gig to hear but, if you are not in the front blocks you need to be well over six foot to see anything. At 5'11 in Block D I caught glimpses but many of the crowd around me sat down throughout because there was no point in standing. Two people next to me had come down from Scotland and left in disgust after 45 mins. What an awful venue! And who took the decision not to have cctv and screens so that people could at least see something? Queen I guess - sad! |
Fenderek 12.05.2005 06:15 |
WHAT A CRAP VENUE! It's absolutely unbelievable!!! I was in block D3, seen stage only when pogoing (I'm sure looked ridiculous...), the sound was... Imagine you're at the party and you go to the toilet. Yep- that's how it sounds. A fuckin' tent, with a crappy sound, crappy view... And those bloody VIPs in front rows. Pathetic! Even Brixton was better... Performance wasn't bad, but the gig as a whole experience- the worst on the tour.... So far Manchester had the best crowd and the best band's performance. Sheffiled had the best setlist and the best Paul's performance, but the worst crowd I've ever seen at the rock gig... Wembley was the worst sound I have ever experienced on a rock concert. The worst major venue in the world? Has to be... |
eggy 12.05.2005 06:32 |
I had no problems with the sound - the bass was fantastic where I was. However, I spoke to a guy on the way home who said that at the back it was nowhere near loud enough. He said they could talk normally and hear each other. That's pathetic! Highlights to me were 39/LOML and Under Pressure. The Paul songs were good too, apart from Wishing Well - my that was awful. The songs before the gig were shockingly bad too. As is £3.50 for a bottle of piss-water aka Carling. |

Wembley Pavilion What a shithole!! i dont blame Queen. but worst concert venue i have ever been for view. stage was about 10 foot high plus the stewards were stopping people taking photos food and drink in the venue was a complete rip off and the sound was not great. Wembley should be ashamed of themselves. NEC Birmingham was so much better. |
RohemianBapsody 12.05.2005 08:10 |
Have to agree with the comment about the venue - absolute shit (back in Block C£ row 19) I though the band + Paul Rodgers were great, but seating at a concert always makes it less enjoyable. |

Surely it couldn't have taken much to get some live feed to the screen behind the stage? But again, it's Queen's management and the tour promoter who should really be sorting that out. Presumably it would have cost them money.... |

See the temporary Wembley Pavilion is taking some shit...crap venue, poor sound etc but what do you really expect from a makeshift tent only erected so that London has another arena until the Arena is re-opened. Agree that Earls Court should have been used or even possibly Docklands (but probably too far out...is it still being used?) Wembley Arena will have to pull their finger out and modernise their venue if they want to compete with the likes of NIA,NEC,Hallam Arena and Newcastle Metro and some of the fantastic arenas on mainland Europe. The building even looks outdated with its triangular shape. That's my 2 cents on Wembley but looks as though the set was great with another top notch performance even though some fans are complaining about the f****** sound. |

i for one loved the show. 15 never been able to see Queen before and the guys just blew me away. I agree bout the shite venue i was ment to be in D3 but security sucked so me and my m8s mannaged to get ourselves into 4 seats for people who got chucked out for filming in block A. It was incredible i was dancing, jumping, screming shouting - everything. Incredible. One security guard did hurt my arm throwing me back when i went to the edge of the catwalk but i got my own back on him singing we are the champions - armpit in face lol. Cant wait till Hyde Park. Btw who ever said paul rodgers wasn't good enough couldnt be more wrong. He was great getting everyone singing and dancing- INfACT HIS SONGS GOT MORE PEOPLE ON THEIR FEET!! |

I was lucky to get tickets near the front via the fanclub. Having been to Brixton, NEC and Wembley I have to say that this this was the best yet for me. Best sound, best lights and best Paul performance (this may have been due to where we were seated though). I did feel sorry for the people near the back though as it did look far away. Anita Dobson was about three rows in front of us which was cool (didn't recognise anyone else) and after the gig she dissapeared into the backstage area and through the door into the main arena came Debbie Leng with one of Rogers kids fast asleep on her sholder (The youngest girl I assume from her age. Completly blond hair though just like Rog!). I have no idea why she came into the main arena other than to take the tired out Taylor child home!?!?! Also we were parked in the "privilage" area (£15 to you and me!) which was in the VIP parking and entrance. After the gig we heard a very good Queen cover band playing a set in the VIP area, I assume a post gig concert. I thought it was strange that a band would be doing a Queen show backstage. Don't know who they were but did a very good version of Is This The World We Created. |

I agree with "We Are The Champions" - you guys seem to forget it's only a temporary venue and I hope the Wembley people really get the new Arena right. I was disappointed they didn't put screens up for the people further back like they have in the main Arena. I was in B6 and having never seen Queen or Paul Rogers before I was totally blown away. I now have a new-found respect for Free and Bad Company - what class songs!!!! My dad is listening to Free - Heartbreaker at the moment on vinyl! I'd never heard Love Of My Life before and that song is now my 2nd favourite Queen song after Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy and before Somebody To Love and Killer Queen (none of which were performed (boo hoo)! I had tears in my eyes when Freddie started singing Bo Rhap. I turned to my mum and said "this is spooky - it sounds like Freddie" and then the video came on the screen and my mum's mouth dropped. My folks grew up with Queen so it really touched them. My mum said that The Works tour was the best Queen concert she's been to. That's enough from me. Ciao for now! |
