Seeing as Killer Queen / Flick of the Wrist was a double A side, how come Flick never gets any credit, Greatest Hits inclusion, etc?
Similarly the fact that "The First EP" is just called "The First EP" implies that all the tracks are equally important (a quadruple A side?) so how come Death on two legs, Tennement Funster and White Queen counted as greatest hits?
I assume it's because Killer Queen and Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy were the only songs from those releases that were played on radio, top of the pops etc and basically sold the releases. But in which case why bother with the "double A" / "EP" schtick in the first place?
While I'm at it, why was We Will Rock You allowed on GH1? It was only a b-side (unless you count the French release but I'm assuming GH1 is meant to reflect British chart success). I guess because it was such a popular song it should go on, regardless of validity... but by that logic couldn't they have put Tie Your Mother Down on too?
I guess they only had space for so many songs though..
Keep yourself alive I can understand not being on, as it didn't chart at all, let alone highly, and it didn't have the mainstream popularity that blagged the technically invalid We will rock you a place on GH1. However I personally WOULD have included it, purely to represent the first album and thus give a better overal sample of Queen's output (plus it's a good song that only didn't chart cos the band weren't famous enough).
Spread your wings though, I agree they ought to have squeezed that in really. If it had been included on GH1 I reckon it would be as famous and popular with the masses now as anything else on GH1.
GH1 was their top 17 hits (not including FOTW which I agree should have been on). Spread Your Wings & TYMD both charted in the low 30s - would have been tracks 18 & 19 if there had been room.
On the subject of FOTW - I can only assume that it got hardly any airplay, and so KQ was the song that "HIT", as opposed to WWRY & FBG which were rotated around.
Heaven forbid I should point out an error in one of Dark's posts, but....
since each territory got it's own tracklisting, how is this even vaguely relevant?
I don't think that USA releases are the reason to put these tracks on GH1.
This GH1 is classical/UK version, in different countries they put other tracks (there's 'Sweet Lady' on Russian edition, though only one Queen's single that has been released here is 'Jealousy'), that's why on Hollywood Records re-issue they put 'Body Language' - it was hit in USA, but it's absent on UK version of GHII. IMO.
