I never had the opportunity to actually see Queen with Freddie live in concert, so I have to go by what I see in concert footage.
I've always wondered why Freddie would splash water, sometimes drinks on the audience when Queen performed live.
It always looks as if he is doing it in an affectionate way..and the crowd seems to like it. There's even a photo of it on the main page, and I have many photos of Freddie doing so in my collection, and I have seen footage of Freddie doing so in the concert videos.
Reminds me of a musical version of Gallagher in concert.
When and why did Freddie start doing this?
Has anyone actually been to a Queen concert (with Freddie) where they saw Freddie do this?
Has anyone actually been one of the crowd members who got splashed, and what was your and the crowds reaction?
Rock mannerisms. It's in the heat of the moment, and has absolutely no deeper meaning. He pranced, he waved his microphone stand, he kneeled down, f***** the stage floor... whatever. Why does Gene Simmons stick his tongue out, why does Mick Jagger run around on a stage like a fag, why does Angus Young show his butt to audiences... thats entertainment. You do silly things and everyone enjoys it. It's a lived out cliche, and it's great, those things build a connection between artist and audience, you don't just stand on stage and play. You perform !
