My god! I'm sorry, as someone who was once against the tour, I have to speak out to people like "Bryans SPERMED Poodle" who just aren't getting it. 1) Yes, we get it, Fred died in 1991. 2) Yes, we get it, RIP Queen 1991...ie: you think Queen died in 1991. It really doesn't need to be typed again. Get this dude: Paul Rodgers DOES NOT consider himself to be Queen's singer. Brian nor Roger feel that Paul is Queen's singer. Every interview that Brian/Roger/ or Paul Rodgers has done since this tour was announced state this very clearly. Queen was one the worlds premier live acts, who lost the great Mercury waaay too soon. Paul Rodgers is considered one of rock's greatest frontmen ever. The remaining members of Queen (who still wanted to tour) were in need of a temporary singer. Paul Rodgers, a awesome force in rock music was in need of a band that matched his vocal abilities. So, was born the idea of Brian, Roger, and Paul getting together and everyone doing some of their classic songs from their respective bands. Queen has 1 singer- Freddie Mercury. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS But he is no longer here, Paul Rodgers has not replaced Freddie.... he is simply filling in because Fred is no longer with us. I respect Paul 100 times more for just being Paul...and singing these songs like Paul... then I would some Freddie impersonator trying to be Freddie. ONE MORE TIME- Queen have not reformed, Brian & Rog haven't forgot about Queen's original members. Its one tour, its just a extened jam session that happens to be hitting several stops. You know what I think is total bullshit for all of you guys whining about Paul... If Roger & Brian were on some show, accepting a award for past accomplishments, and the crowd started chanting "play a song, play a song"... and Brian grabed the mic and said "We would, but we don't have a fill in on lead vocals"... and out of the shadows of backstage, Paul Rodgers came onstage and said "I'd be honored to fill in for Freddie, and there is no way I'm letting this chance pass to play music with you guys, what shall we play??" There is not a person on this forum that wouldn't say "Did you see how fuckin' cool that was???" "Paul just jumped up there and said, lets play boys!!" This fictional scenerio above is essentially what is happening. No one thinks Paul has "replaced" Freddie. This tour is just a last chance for many Queen fans, to at least see half of their favorite band perform these songs. Its not hurting anything, and I assure all of you the legacy with Freddie and John speaks for itself. Anyone agree with what I have typed here?? |

You know I'm with you. Great metaphor for what this tour is..an extended jam session. Well put Scott. |

Again? I'm tired of such statements - about 'there's no Queen without Freddie' (though it's true) and 'Freddie's dead and Paul ain't gonna replace him' (though it's true also)! Enough, guys! |

Lester- I never didn't agree with you. I am one of these people who can see both sides of the coin. On one hand, I can see where some people here, like "Spermed Poodle" don't want the legacy tampered with. These fans love Queen, LOVE Freddie even more... and can't picture "Queen" without Freddie. I may?? fall into that catagory myself. However, once I read interviews done with Bri, Rog, and PR.... I realized this was like a jam session tourned into a mini tour. No one was trying to say this is Queen. Again, this is not like when AC/DC picked up Brian Johnson in 1980 after Bon Scott's death. When AC/DC picked up Brian, AC/DC's best years were still ahead of them. (Angus Young was 25 yrs old when Brian Johnson joined the band). Roger is what?? 56 this year Brian is what?? 58 in July? Paul Rodgers I think said in one interview that he's 56. Which, doesn't mean anything, except... these guys prime years are waaay past them. Its not like this version of "Queen" is going to go on 20 more years. I would bet money this tour will be it. I can live with this tour, as it may be my only chance to see Brian and Roger. To me, this is an extened jam session. Do I want to see an album of new material from these guys??? Hmmm... tough question. My first thought is NO. Brian and Roger for the most part have either took care of most singing duties on their own albums, or, of course were lead by Freddie with Queen. I probably prefer it stay that way... to tell you the truth. |

my thought exactly- but are you also saying this is NOT Queen, or are you saying this IS Queen plus a lead singer. Cos in my opinion it is Queen with a lead singer, dont kill me for askign im just slightly confused! |
Negative Creep 01.05.2005 11:23 |
But.... Roger & Brian DO consider themselves to be Queen these days. |
Scott_Mercury 01.05.2005 11:26 |
Taylor GaGa- I am saying that this is NOT completely Queen. But, in 2005, its the best we have got. In the band, which I will call the "real" Queen. I never think of "John... you are assigned bass.... Freddie... only you touch the piano...Roger...don't you dare sing, or step away from those drums"...et No.. our Queen wasn't like that. When you heard an album, anyone in the versatile machine known as Queen could be playing any instrument... Taylor or May could be heard singing...John on a Rhodes paino....Brian on keyboards....Roger on guitar...you get the idea. So, in essence, the sound we heard from 1973-1991 is those 4 original members. Now, 2 are gone. So... to answer your question... this is a "FORM" of Queen with a replacement, temporary singer. But I think its a poor definition to call this Queen + a lead singer. I call it: 2 amazing musicians from the rock band Queen, have gotten together with one of music's greatest singers, Paul Rodgers of a tour where the artists will be playing songs from their impressive song catalogs. Paul Rodgers will be filling in for the legendary Freddie Mercury on the Queen songs, who passed away in 1991 of Aids, and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) and Brian May (guitars, vocals) will be the band, along with some top other veterain musicians. John Deacon, Queen's original bassist has since retired after the death of Mercury. Paul Rodgers, of Free, Bad Company, and The Firm will not be accompanied by any of his former band mates. ....Thats what I would call it. |
