Don't know if this is the right forum for this Richard...but I hope it is.
The May 2005 issue of Classic Rock Magazine features both a Cover Story On Free & Paul Rodgers, and the interview with Brian & Paul about the Queen+Paul Rodgers Tour.
On Page 56 of the Interview/Article "Freddie Would Love It" with Brian & Paul about the Queen+Paul Rodgers Tour, Paul discusses how right before the tour and his initial work with Brian began, Paul did a live concert in Detroit, USA to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Four Tops, and he performed with The Four Tops, as well as Sam (of Sam & Dave who originally recorded "Soul Man"), ...and with....
....Aretha Franklin....Freddie's idol!
Just thought that was neat. Lucky Paul! :)
I want that magazine Arlene.
I just love Free.
Where did you get it and when did you get it.
Do you think it's still on sale?
To add to your story Paul said that Four Tops dude called him out of the blue and invited him to do the show. Paul was surprised they even knew he existed.
The Four Tops dude gave an interview and said
"We invited Paul because Paul is the soul of rock."
I thought that was really cool.
And it's true! A friend of mine just sent me a DVD of vintage live Free and it's just fucking amazing.
As I watch I keep thinking:
How can a group of white British kids have so much soul? It boggles my mind.
They were a fantastic group together for only four years.
And after watching this I have even less doubt that these guys influenced Freddie and the rest of the boys.
Great, great band.
It's too bad they imploded. If they had stuck around they would've been as legendary as Zeppelin.
Of that I have no doubt.
And Paul Kossoff has just jumped into my top 5 favorite guitarists of all time. Watching him has been a revelation. I'm a guitarist and it's like going back to school. So much feel and economy. Milking one note for all it's worth.
Great in rhythm as well as lead.
It's a shame the young man had to leave us so soon.

I bought it last night at Maryland's Independent store Record & Tape Traders who get ALL the UK mags in this part of the USA, FIRST....so the BIG chain stores SHOULD hopefully get it...soon/shortly.
You're welcome Darling! :)
When I saw Paul Rodgers Tour in 1993, he was promoting his NEW record then, "A Tribute To Muddy Waters", the legendary black bluesman. Paul was GREAT and he also performed Hendrix's "Foxy lady" & "Purple Haze" with Neil Schon on guitar. The they all jammed with the other act that night, The Steve Miller Band. One HELL of a JAM session!!!!
Great insight posts Knute and Arlene as usual.
If i can help you with any publications from the UK give me a shout.
Anyway gotta go i'm getting mullered on Tanqueray and i've got to get up and drive to the freindliest most passionate city in England tomorrow to see a pretty well known band with a new singer that kicks serious ass!!!

Have a great time at the show. Give them a great Geordie welcome!
Paul has worked with so many throughout his years.
But FREE has never been given all the credit it deserved.
It was without a doubt one of the best bands to ever pony up, they were so young and had so much talent.
Paul Kossoff was one amazing guitar player, Andy was 15 years old and his Bass was magic Simon could bang a kit to death, and Paul's vocals were unmatched.
I count myself as so very lucky to have seen them live, I still own every thing Free released and it is my most treasured music.
Bad Company ripped with heavy Blues & Rock but Free will always hold the number one spot in my heart.
Paul is truly the most gifted singer out there as far as being able to sing anything. link
