Boy this one has to be the toughest to list. Mainly because there's so many songs. To prepare, I didn't read anyone else's list and I listened to the whole thing for the first time in a while before I made my decisions. Very underrated. Probably their most unique and diverse record. 1. Dead On Time-They kick ass on this. Almost as good as Stone Cold Crazy 2. Let Me Entertain You-I've always really liked this one. Bluesy. 3. Mustapha-Great opener. 4. Dreamer's Ball-Why don't Q+PR do this one? 5. Fat Bottomed Girls-If this were 1978, when it was fresh, it would be #1. 6. Leaving Home Ain't Easy-Brian's most soulful vocal. Great song! I've missed this one! Gave me chills. Are you listening Q+PR! 7. Jelousy-Sincere Freddie ballad. 8. Bicycle Race-Clever tune. Proglike in it's complexity. Hilariously dated lyrics. 9. In Only Seven Days-Underrated Deaky track. Crafty pop tune. 10.If You Can't Beat Them-Deaky rocker. Not a bad tune. 11. Don't Stop Me Now-I'm afraid I've never held this in as high regard as most fans. I'm not sure why. The melody has never totally thrilled me. 12. Fun it-Strange hybrid of disco, funk and boogie. 13. More of that Jazz-I like the riff in this. Decent Roger vocal. The reprises are corny as hell. Cleary the two RMT songs are the weakest of this album. But I'll take Jazz over any eighties album anyday. |

Well there's always someone here who likes something most people don't, and I gotta say I really like "More Of That Jazz" (minus the snippet thing). There's something about how minimalist it is. Imagine it as a soundtrack to a scene in a movie where someone is dying of suicide or a drug overdose or something...I know that sounds depressing, but it would be really dramatic I think. |

1. Mustapha (I'm weird, I know... but I LOVE that mono/stereo moment and the 'eavy guitars!!!) 2. Fat Bottomed Girls (simply a classic! great lyrics!) 3. Dead on Time (underrated, great rocker!) 4. Dreamer's Ball (LOVELY!!!) 5. More of that jazz (another weird choice, isn't it? But I ansolutely love the guitar riff in there. ) 6. Let me Entertain You (fiff could be a bit more upfront; great track!) 7. Jealousy (simply beautiful) 8. If you can't beat them (One of the best Deacon tracks) 9. In only seven days (adorable, but nothing special) 10. Don't stop me now (cl;assic- I think I just heard it too many times) 11. Bicycle Race (makes me cringe sometimes... but the time changes are awesome!) 12. Leaving home ain't easy (sounds like ABBA... not a bad thing if you like 'em) 13. Fun it (can't stand it, sorry...) IMO it's very underrated album- great one, with not so obvious and not so catchy numbers on it (apart from 1 or 2 singles). Some stuff recorded here (Dead On Time, No More..., If You Can't Beat Them) have some weird time changes, not obvious chord progressions... It's not as easy to listen as previous ones (and definitelly not as easy as 80s stuff) but IMO that's its stregth. I think this album is for those who like analysing songs, finding little details, looking for sth more than just the background. Very underrated album... |

I find it hard to rate songs in order of best to least best, but I'm going to stand up for one of my favourites that a lot of people seem to slate... More Of That Jazz. I love that drum beat, with the slight hi-hat in the bakground all the way through, and the guitar riff makes it so dark and just plain awesome. And Roger's voice is class in this. Great tune. I think its the "Get Down, Make Love" of Jazz. You either love it or hate it. |

It was great to listen to the album again, it had been a while. Anyway, here's my two cents. 1. Fat Bottomed Girls (what a great rocker) 2. Don't Stop Me Now (I love the feel and the drive of the song) 3. Mustapha (the live versions were great) 4. Bicycle Race (great solo after the ringing of the bells) 5. If You Can't Beat Them 6. Alright... since I started this, I should add my 2 cents... By the way... I know I am out numbered, but I think "Fun it" kicks ass.... and its one of my wife's favorite Queen songs. (She thinks "Don't stop me now" is one of the greatest songs by anyone, anywhere) For me: 1. Fat Bottomed Girls 2. Don't Stop Me Now 3. In Only seven days 4. Dreamers ball 5. Dead on time 6. Mustapha - Love the beginning with Fred... once the song gets going, I'd rather set a steak on my "wedding tackle" and have a pack of pissed off pit bulls come snap at it then sit through it...needless to say, the Jazz album starts on song 2 for me. |
