I hope people dont start asking why Im starting stupid topics but since this topic its in the general discussion then im going to post it anyways.
What do you guys think is the best costume Freddie wore on stage?? From 74-86? I think that the Sandra Rhodes white satin costumes from thr 74-75 era are probably the best and also the white checkered leotard he worre during the NOTW USA Tour. What do you guys think?
I love his outfit at Milton Keynes, too - it was kind of basic but it looked great! His Zandra Rhodes costumes from the earlier days were also amazing.
I like Zandra Rhodes designed glamorous costumes but what I like best is leotards...looking back on them, he wore white one, black-sequinned one, black and white checkered one, black and white striped one, green white and orange checkered one, sparkling one...I prefer black-sequinned one and black and white checkered one...i think those styles seem to add theatrial quality and more flamboyant spectacle to the show.
I LOVE all of Freddie's Zandra Rhodes costumes...her costumes were Freddie's original signature and are so exotic,...
...but I have to say that her's are tied with is it..Diana (I thnk) Mosely's whose name appears in the Live At Wembley as designing all of Freddie's stuff, which would be his glorious regal yellow jacket that has literally become Freddie's Classic trademark now, as well as his ermine royal cape.
Also...after watching Freddie in his solo "Living On My Own Video" for the VERY first time this Sunday...I have fallen in love with the black regal royal jacket with gold epaulets and black trousers with gold epaulets that Freddie wore in the video (well the jacket) (the jacket & the trousers at Fashion Aid) designed by Emanuels that Freddie also wore at Fashion Aid.
I actually love all 3 equally, just in different ways..Zandra's were exotic and defined Freddie's 70's glam era, Mosley's & Emanuel's were very regal, majestic. even royal looking and defined Freddie's gallant, royal, dashing, regal 80's period.
I don't know what was going on with Freddie at Live Aid but he was just perfect.
Voice wise, performance wise and looks wise. He looked good and it was only a vest and jeans. That was a good look.
For me his best outfit was the one he wore at Wembley 86.(Any comparisons with a circus leader will end right now :P) It gave him some dignity some of his previous outfits lacked. The less said about his earlier outfits the better. :P
Zandra Rhodes 'angel' outfit (Bo Rhap video), black leather (vinyl?) jacket, red leather pants, officer's cap and aviator glasses 78/79 tour, also Hot Space costumes & Magic tour costumes

Thanks..how COULD I forget that! With his silver studded arm bracelet too!
well...I've noticed lots of people don't like his leotards but I feel a sort of dignity and his pride as an entertainer in those playful outfits...that's just my feeling and this kind of topic depends on one's sense...I think it can't be helped few people would share that feeling with me...

I totally agree. To my opinion, I think that if another artist tried to wear leotards like the one's Freddie wore, i dont believe they would have pulled it off. The only person i think maybe would pull it off is Steven Tyler cause I think his body closely resembles Freddies in the 70s. But I beleive that when it comes to Freddies trademark costume it has to be the leotards. Many people that arent really into Queen would probably remember Freddie more as "Oh yeah, wasnt he the one that would wear those things that girl gymnasts wear" than "Oh yeah didnt he wear that yellow jacket?"
Mick Jagger *might* have been able to do it (he wore other leotards anyway).
My favorite look: '79 leather. That is exactly what a rock star is supposed to look like IMHO :) Then he grew the mustache and looked like my neighbor.
