Hey guys, just wanted to start a different thread for the Birmingham gig. I'll be staying at the Crowne Plaza along with my brother. I know some of you guys will also be staying there. GregM said that they have a bar in the hotel that we can meet up at before we go to the show, this sounds like a plan unless someone comes up with somewhere better. Let me know what everyone thinks, and lets talk about the gig itself, anything relating to the Birmingham NEC show or surrounding area. |
GregM 25.04.2005 14:12 |
I'll be arriving around 10 AM on the day of the show, and staying until Sunday around noon. I'm sure it will be a great time. I'll do some research on the restaurant/pub and let you know what it's called, if that's where you'd like to meet. It SOUNDS like a good, central location. I can't wait! Greg |

4th time seeing Queen at the NEC 24/11/79 - 06/12/1980 - 01/09/84 & of course Brian 12/06/93. I really like this venue I know its not everyones favourite but I've always found the accoustics to be excellent! The 1979 gig was in Exhibition Hall 1 an altogether different venue I was lucky to be at the front my mate at the back reckoned he heard the words a full 30 seconds after Freddie had sung them like watching a badly synched movie. That gig was the biggest (18000) of the Crazy tour. The 1980 Gig was the 2nd ever gig at the new International Arena the first gig and official opening had been the night before and Queen headlined of course so its rather fitting that nearly 25 years later they are back. The Works tour gets a lot of stick around these parts I think rather unfairly IMO Queen were at their collective peak as a Live Band on this tour and the 1984 NEC gig the 2nd of 3 was the best Queen gig I have ever been to and there are quite a few to choose from. My good lady and I will be arriving around 5pm I think I might just be wearing my Yellow Magic Tour Hawian shirt as it only comes out for very special occasions! Hope to see some of you guys around lets hope its yet another special NEC occasion! |

Cool,we should be arriving in Birmingham, via Train from Paddington Station London, to the NEC Station in Birmingham around noon. At that point I want to check my bag and then get some wonderfull English Food. Then mabey we can all meet up in that pub or in the hotel lobby and eat and drink together before we leave for the show. But I also want to get there early to get a good spot up front by the stage. Lets all keep this thread going until the show itself. |
Banquo 26.04.2005 04:09 |
I'm staying in Stafford with a couple of friends. Should be cool can't wait. If anyone wants to pay over the top bar prices and get me a drink during Brian's solo I'll be stood at the bar with an incredulous look on my face and a Queen II t-shirt. |
Fenderek 26.04.2005 04:15 |
I guess it's gonna be Queen II t-shirt as well :) Arriving from London about midday- plenty of time before the gig. Few beers or sth- very welcome :) |
Khizzy 26.04.2005 13:31 |
I'm going with my sister though I won't be getting there till about 7ish... |
Professor Snowy 26.04.2005 15:03 |
We'll be there too! Hopefully we're checking in around 2.00pm on the day... See you in the bar!!! |
GregM 28.04.2005 08:43 |
Hey, does anyone know if cameras are allowed at the NEC? And if so, what kind? Also, do flashes bother the folks on stage? I'd like to take a few pics -- say five or six -- but wanted to know if anyone would mind. Thanks, Greg |
Fenderek 29.04.2005 06:06 |
Let's keep the thread alive :) 7 days!!! |
GregM 29.04.2005 07:54 |
Incredible...I Can't believe it! I'm all set! Greg |
Fenderek 29.04.2005 08:11 |
I'm not talking about anything else- everybody have enough of this "Paul Rodgers this...", "Queen that"... :) My friends who don't like Queen almost can't stand me anymore :) And I thought that before Brixton it was special... :) |
Headlong24 29.04.2005 14:11 |
I'm getting pumped!!! I Can't wait, just trying to finish my college finals, and then it's off to jolly old England. I just heard that they played Wishing Well last night, I hope they keep that one in instead of Little Bit of Love, Wishing Well Fucking rocks!!! |
Fenderek 01.05.2005 07:38 |
What time are we meeting? I also want to leave quite early to get close to the stage. But I'm arriving from London quite early too, so... plenty of time :) |
GregM 01.05.2005 09:02 |
I don't know -- I'm paranoid enough that I'd like to get in line VERY early, so what say noonish? |
Daz85 01.05.2005 09:36 |
I'm going myself on Friday - can't wait! I'm a bit worried about queing tho - it was bad enough at Brixton waiting for so long.... this is gonna be alot more intense I feel! |
GregM 01.05.2005 16:10 |
Those who will be standing -- what would a good time be to start lining up, in your opinion? I have no plans, so whenever will be fine...I'll be arriving in town around 11 AM. Thanks in advance for any advice, and hope to see you there! Greg |
Headlong24 02.05.2005 00:18 |
When do the doors at the NEC offically open? I herd earlier around 6pm. If this is the case we should probably get there around 3pm. I mean I can't see waiting outside the building for hours on end, not sober anyway. |
GregM 02.05.2005 07:49 |
You got a point there :) |
Fenderek 03.05.2005 08:32 |
threads like that cannot die before the gig :) The more will see (and join)- the better :) Don't remember exactly what time am I arriving from London- can't be too late, though... We can buy few cans of beer especially for standing in the queue... ;) |
GregM 03.05.2005 09:14 |
I have a bladder the size of a pea, so I'll probably pass on the beer! All else sounds good, though. |
Headlong24 04.05.2005 23:22 |
All Right Here We Go, Are We Still Meeting Up in The Lobby Of The Hotel, We Should Try For Around 3pm In The Lobby Or That Pub That We Talked About. |
Fenderek 05.05.2005 09:51 |
3 o clock it will be! See you guys there! :) PS Is Arena (and hotel) far from coach Station? |
kerfuffle87 05.05.2005 10:43 |
Might see you there as well! although i dunno what any of you guys look like :-(. im probs gonna make my way there for around two or three cos like you guys, im worried bout missing out on a good spot! xxx |
GregM 05.05.2005 11:53 |
3 pm in the lobby! You got it. I'll be wearing a leather jacket (had it for ten years!), have brown hair (short), a light goatee, stand 6ft, am 27 years old...And oh yeah, I have the American accent. So when you get to the lobby, just yell out, "Is there a Yank here named Greg Miller?" That'll do the trick. Chances are slim there will be more than one ;) Can't wait to meet all of you in person! It'll be a great time. I leave for England in just a few hours! Greg |
Fenderek 05.05.2005 12:00 |
Veeeery short hair, goatie, a few spare kilograms (only few...;) no, really!), Queen II t-shirt and leather jacket. :) Will be FUN! |
kerfuffle87 05.05.2005 14:09 |
o yeah forgot to mention: there is the 60th anniversary of Vicotry in Europe Day with the City of Birmingham. Birmingham City Centre is the lcoation, with bands, food, music, entertainment, military vehciles, and a street party! There will also be a parade of every person who fought in World War Two, and the men and women of all the regiments, ships, and air stations that have been given the Freedom of Birmingham, including HMS Forward. Just to those who are staying in Birmingham afterwards (on Sunday) as it might be intersting (a bit random, i know) so there you have it! xxx |
Fenderek 07.05.2005 05:25 |
We met- Greg wasn't there. Bastard :) But it was quite few of us anyway, so we didn't care that much ;) Nice company, had few beers, managed to get to the third row in front of the catwalk, than back to the launge and few more hours... Great company, great concert- thanx Guyz!!!!!! Was a pleasure!!! PS Was I that dangerous...? ;) |
[ Wybren™ ] 07.05.2005 06:01 |

Khizzy 07.05.2005 09:04 |
Was anyone sitting? I was in block L row Q in the middle section of seats... |
Mercumay88 07.05.2005 09:48 |
Fenderek wasnt that dangerous!! Seiously it was great to catch up with a couple of fellow Q,zoners, (Fenderek, Headlong24 and his brother)and others who I cant remember their nicks, Thanks guys and girls! It makes it much better when your coming from afar and dont know many people going! Sorry I couldnt have a couple of beers after the gig guys, I passed out for 12 hours straight! ha ha! Enjoy the rest of the shows! |
pcgenius9 07.05.2005 13:53 |
Sitting? Oh, I wondered what the seats were for... |
GregM 07.05.2005 15:31 |
Hi guys! Sorry I missed you! I got in early, and when wandering around the NEC Arena I ran into some nice fans and they sucked me into the queue...So I was in line for about seven hours! But I was in the front row in front of the catwalk...absolutely incredible!!!!! I missed seeing you, though, and afterwards went to the bar at the hotel and looked for people...Couldn't distinguish anyone, though. I hope you forgive me. Absolutely beautiful show. Still stunned...I've finally seen my heroes, and from about 10 feet away! I'm still in Birmingham now, and will be back in the US tomorrow. To make it up to you, if anyone needs to stay with me in Pittsburgh, should the band come here, you've got a place... Greg |
cooky 07.05.2005 16:23 |
just to say i first saw queen at bingley hall 6.5.78 and seen them 18 times over the 27 years and i must say brian gets better with age,his solo was probably the best i have seen him do,he used about every technique he knows, loved the chinese torture and the white man intro on fbg,saw them in newcastle on tuesday and the light rig was moving into allsorts of positions, but that didnt happen at at the nec,but what a show anyway, got to the arena about 6.15 and stood outside and you could hear them rehearsing aobtd. |
Rich Tea 07.05.2005 18:37 |
I find it really annoying when people point out slight technical errors or the odd missed word here or there!! That is the whole point of LIVE music and for me its part of the joy of LIVE music. I'm sorry but no bootleg or official live release can communicate the emmotion and pure pleasure I experienced last night at the NEC when I saw the band I have followed for 32 years. It was an Awesome gig in a lot of ways very different to the old days but in many ways just like the old days. For what its worth I really really do hope this is a new beginning - Thanks Guys Just one slight thing that bugged me - Brian the Bingley Hall you played and the one where we all sang you'll never walk alone to you is in STAFFORD not Birmingham but hey whats 29.5 miles to such a well travelled Rock God |
GregM 08.05.2005 00:07 |
Absolutely true...Nothing can capture that feeling of actually being there. Until recently, I never imagined I'd know what that feeling was like. Thanks to this new tour, now I do. No words can do it justice, but I'm just very, very grateful. Greg |
Headlong24 08.05.2005 17:54 |
The Show was amazing, sorry so late with this post but Ive been hanging around London for the past few days. What can I say, what A treat from the third row. And hey what about Another One Bites The Dust!!! Just a great show, I really hope they come to the states, thanks to everyone I met lets keep in touch, I will try and post some pictures soon. |
Crazy LittleThing 10.05.2005 14:09 |
Headlong! Great to meet you and your bro. Hope London was fun. Tom: again, a pleasure. Were those Bloody Marys spicy or WHAT?! Greg: we missed you! Mark, Deb, Cathy, and Lisa! Email me! I feel Scotland calling to me! It was a total blast. Great to meet you all, thanks so much to Cathy and Lisa for getting me going on the truly awful and awe inspiring combination of Red Bull and Vodka! See everyone at Hyde Park? Yeah? Maybe Cologne? Might just be a thing . . . I hear the boys from Queen are going to be there! --Cindy |

It annoyed me at the time but my sister was not impressed at my outburst! |
