Hi there, just wandering if anyone can offer me some advice/hints and tips/fill me in on what I should expect as being part of the standing-area of a large-venue (which for me will be the gig in Cardiff International Arena). I havent been to any gigs larger than say Rock City in Nottingham, so no arenas or stadiums. I am taking a group of friends with me and some are a bit worried about getting crushed and jostled all night, I know we're going to see Queen not Faith No More or Metallica kinda moshing but still don't know what to expect- any advice will be really welcomed - thanks.
No pressure whatsoever in first row catswalk in Munich and Vienna. In fact, I've never been so confortable in a standing concert as I was in these two. Having said that, UK could be different, but don't be afraid, you will not be crushed to death ... :-)
I've been to quite a few by now (all accept one I stood in the first 5 or 6 rows)and I haven't even been pushed once!
(Tie Your Mother Down is pretty jumpy but I can't imagine you do not want to join in yourself! ;-)
But even that part was very decent at all my shows. I could easily have taken my Grandma to one of them! ;-)
No worries and enjoy!!
The size of venue is irrelevant. I got more crushed at the Marquee than at Wembley Stadium.
In general, down the front is crushed, further back is ok. As you'd expect, really.
I know that in Cardiff CIA you can watch the concert while drinking lager (and other stuff) from plastic cups. At least thats how its been in every concert I have been to in that venue upto now. And I have been there well over 10 times.
It may take you a while to get served though. Actually its a bit of a pain as people are always moving in and out and pushing past you when you a trying to watch the show.

Thats wat surprised me at Brixton. There was hardly any jumping etc at all. It must be the audience is that much older than they used to be.
My girlfriend was really shocked- she said the audience @ Brixton was really "stiff"- funny as exactly the same happened at Dream Theater gig. And it couldn't be just English audience, as it was a very international group of ppl at Academy. I don't know- it felt not right in a way... ;) i'm used to something completely different after all those Metallicas and the likes :)
