I started thinking about and organising the transport from place to place (trains, buses) and started wandering. Is anyone else going to all the gigs? I'm personally not going to Newcastle, I start in Manchester, but than all the stuff till Wembley... Is there any "touring" group? :) Or someone going from London to either Manchester, Birmingham or Sheffield...? Or from Birmingham to Cardiff? Some kind of Royal family anywhere...? Would be nicer to travel in a group. :) And if someone had a space in a car... ;) PS What's better (cheaper that is ;) )- rail or National Express? |
The Stealer 18.04.2005 09:28 |
My friend and I are flying in from US and are going Newcastle through Wembley. We are taking the train-we bought a 8 day flex pass (I think you can only get them outside the US). I would go with train if you can do it. Did most of the Roger tour in 1999 on a National Express bus pass. It was a really gruelling, confining and took twice as long to get from city to city- it is cheaper but...comfort,conveinence, traffic jams ..?? |
Atomic Dog 18.04.2005 10:07 |
Hi All Flying in from Los Angeles to see the Boys. We are going to Birmingham, Cardiff, Sheffeild, and Wimbley. This should be very exciting to see them in England. I had seen them over 25 times in the states and look foreard to the seeing them at home. Also, I agree with many of the people on the post, MORE PAUL SINGING!!! Cheers |
Fenderek 19.04.2005 07:27 |
Well- there you go, I just found out that I can go anywhere by National Express for 20 pounds Return ticket! I don;'t mind travelling for 1-2 extra hours :) NOW- we (queenzoners) should have meetings before gigs, shouldn't we? :) The ones who see few gigs and the ones seeing only a selected one- would be really cool to experience it in a larger group in some pub or sth, right :) Any thoughts? |
GregM 19.04.2005 08:46 |
I'll be flying into Birmingham from Pittsburgh and arriving early in the morning the day of the show, but anyone who wants to get together that day is welcome to contact me...It'd be fun, and if you've got standing tickets, we could get in line together. I'll probably end up getting in the queue around three or so. That's the only show I can afford to go to during this leg of the tour (no more personal days left until next year...but they'll come in handy for a US leg, if it happens!) I'm CONSIDERING flying back out for the Hyde Park concert in July...The only wild card is money. Getting close, people! Greg |
Fenderek 19.04.2005 08:54 |
C'mon- let's have some more! :) I've got a standing one for Birmingham as well. All I need to find out is where the heck is the venue ;) |
GregM 19.04.2005 08:59 |
Fenderek, I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza NEC, which is just a fourth of a mile from the NEC Arena. Kinda pricy, but worth it considering how close it is! Greg |
GregM 19.04.2005 09:04 |
And, hey, it's not every day I get to visit England...I'm going to live it up a little... Greg |
Lisser 19.04.2005 10:06 |
I wish I could go too Greg!! I work in the school districts too. I am a 12 month employee though. I get more vacation days/sick days/personal days July 1. Are you having State testing right now? |
queenfan7474 19.04.2005 10:28 |
i'm flying in from new york and going to b'ham and cardiff.staying at the nec crowne plaza also.i rented a car because the train schedules didnt work out for me.i'm going to cream at royal albert hall also.i'll see you all there. |
Headlong24 19.04.2005 13:47 |
Yes I will also be attending the show in Birmingham, Me and my brother will be flying out of New York. Were also staying at the Crowne Plaza, so yeah lets make it a plan to meet up, I also have standing tickets so I plan on getting there early, I'm getting up front and as soon as the band launches into TYMD I'M GOING NUTS, just wanted to warn eveybody!!! |
GregM 19.04.2005 13:54 |
Lisser and Headlong -- Let's get together and stay in touch until then! I've discovered that even though I'm arriving early (around 10 AM), I can't check into my hotel room until 2pm...So I'll just have them hold my luggage, get some lunch, and head over to get in line, probably. Maybe we could meet in the lobby and all head over together? Lisser -- no testing at the moment. We had PSSAs a few weeks back. A real pain in the butt! Greg |
GregM 19.04.2005 13:57 |
Sorry - Queenfan and Headlong, I mean! Sorry you won't be there, Lisser. Still, the US tour should bring hope. |
Headlong24 19.04.2005 14:11 |
Sounds like a plan Greg!!!, Were actually flying into london, and taking a train to Birmingham. Because we plan on staying in London a few days as well, you know to see the sites. So we will probably arrive around 12noon at the hotel. Yeah so the plan would be check our bags and get some food and then head over to the gig. Im 100% sure we can walk there from the hotel. |

Headlong24 19.04.2005 18:15 |
Why is he dangerous????Would anyone like to share. |
Mcm 19.04.2005 19:20 |
I'm going to all the gigs except Manchester and will be driving from venue to venue. As i live in Reading (40 miles west of London), I'll probably head home after the Birmingham and Cardiff shows. As for the others, probably £40 a night travellodges which are scattered around the country. |
GregM 19.04.2005 21:26 |

Someone who knows the venue has to choose a location (best is a pub near the arena/hall) and just post the details here. The others will be happy enough to show up where the meeting is set. |
GregM 24.04.2005 09:23 |
Apparently the Crowne Plaza NEC (where several of us are staying, and which is, apparently, just next door to the show) has a good restaurant/pub in it. Would that do? Greg |
Fenderek 24.04.2005 09:24 |
OK than- c'mon ppl of Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, Newcastle and Sheffield- where are the pubs near the venues where the queenzoners can meet, huh ? :) C'mon- don't be shy! :) |
Fenderek 24.04.2005 09:25 |
I guess that would do. Do we have the first one than? |
wesi72 24.04.2005 09:36 |
Newcastle - I think Wetherspoons is the best bet - over the road from the station and about 5 or 10 mins walk from the Arena. |

Will be going to Cardiff with my lady. Straying Friday through to Monday to make a weekend of it. Any suggestions for something to do Friday night, and a possible meet up Saturday? |
Teo_torriate04 25.04.2005 04:37 |
Shit ! That should have read staying, not straying. Mind you, if I could just sneak off for a while............. |
Fenderek 25.04.2005 05:20 |
Do we have Birminbgma, Newcastle and Manchester than...? Geez- I would organise it myself but I've never been to those cities and I don't know shit about them! ;) c'mon guys. There are some ppl of those cities on QZ, right? You don't have to show up if you don't want to, just tell us where we can meet :) It's not that long now!!! |
Crazy LittleThing 25.04.2005 09:29 |
Teo: So you'll be straying Monday through Friday, then making a weekend of it with your lady then . . . wow! Now THAT's some planning, not to mention scheming! Being from Cardiff I thought I would give you guys a couple of Ideas. Not sure I will be able to get there myself but here is some info anyway: If I was you I would head to the St.Marys Street area, which is a couple of minutes walk from the venue. If you are coming to Cardiff by train or bus you will have to walk across this street to get to the venue anyway. There is a Hard Rock Cafe, an O'Neils Irish Pub and an Australian Bar(if I recall it is called Outback or something like that)all close to each other on the same street. Beware there are 2 O'Neils pubs in Cardiff so make sure you go to the one nearest the train station. There are many other places, but I can't remember all the names at the moment. |
Fenderek 25.04.2005 10:47 |
Now that's what I'm talking about!!! Cheers man! Appreciated!!! Any more ideas for different cities?? |
Teo_torriate04 25.04.2005 12:41 |
Thanks for the info Dragon. We're booked in at the Sandringham Hotel which is in St Mary Street (it was cheap and I booked it on the net as soon as I got the tickets). I guess that's quite close to the Arena then. |
DragonOnMyBack 26.04.2005 04:45 |
I'm not exactly sure where the Sandringham Hotel is on St. Marys Street but even if is near Cardiff Castle end ( which is the opposite end to the venue) it is still only about 5 minutes walk away. If you want to get to the venue from St.Mary's Street all you have to do is walk almost to the end of St. Marys Street (not the castle end) and look for a small street called Caroline Street on the left. It's a bit of a dump of a lane full of fish and chip shops and kebab houses, cafes etc. Usually a stop off for people being kicked out of Pubs/Clubs at closing time. Not a place to hang around to long but safe enough to walk through. There are alternate ways through some of the Arcades or cutting through the shops if they are open. Head up this street to "The Hayes" and then keep walking in the same direction, past Toys R Us (on the right) past the 1st car park next to Toys R Us and then take the next right(before you get to the 2nd Car Park), walk about 50 yards and the Cardiff CIA is there on your left. Its pretty dificult to miss. If you want to stop off in a Pub, Bar or for something to eat you will pass plenty of places on the way. |
Fenderek 26.04.2005 11:44 |
C'mon- let's keep the thread alive! There may be some valuable info, just like from DragonOnMyBack- thanx!!! What about Sheffield??? |

Being from Manchester, I can confirm that Hard Rock Cafe and Tiger Tiger are but 5 minutes walking distance at the very most to the MEN arena. Both of these bar's are in the "Printworks" complex, which involves a cinema, and bars and restaurants. There is a Weatherspoon's bar in the complex for cheaper drinks. Also within close walking distance are Sinclair's Oyster Bar (traditional English pub) and The Mitre. These two places have large outside area's to enjoy your drink, but limited space inside. I'd suggest the Printworks for a large meet up. |
leia 26.04.2005 13:59 |
Sorry, for not noticing the request for information about Sheffield. Having travelled across to Sheffield for many an ice hockey game at the arena, I do know that there is a bar across the road from the arena. Also not far from the arena is a big entertainment park as such. With a cinema and bowling ally. I can't recall the name, but I do know that there are a few bar's and eating venues around that place. Also down the road from the arena itself are a couple of restaurant/pubs which could be used. |

I've never really needed to use a hotel in Manchester, so I don't know how good it is. But certainly that building has a bar. Just checking elsewhere, The Mitre is next door to the following three pubs, which I appologise for mentioning earlier. The Old Wellington, Sincliar's (I mentioned that one) and The Crown and Anchor. Sinclairs and The Old Wellington are built ajoining each other, with a nice size outdoor drinking area. The areana is just over 250 meters away from each of these bars, with Tiger Tiger the same. The Crown and Anchor, is a Joseph Holts pub. Now a word of warning for anyone who doesn't normally drink beer or if so, has a rich taste. Holt's beer is very much a local brew, and opinion is split in Manchester over the quality of there beers, so be warned. Though one thing is for sure, the Holt's beer is cheaper than most others, cheap and nasty some people would say. This pub is around 20 yards away from the Mitre. |
Mrs.Taylor 26.04.2005 17:06 |
The entertainment park is called Valley Centertainment and apart from UGC and the Hollywood Bowl has Frankie & Benny's, Boardwalk (personal recommendation - excellent place; many a Happy New Year spent there in recent years), Burger King, Old Orleans, Bitz 'n' Pizza and, if it's still the same, Arbuckles, plus the chav paradise that is Brannigans. There's also the Arena Square pub on the main traffic island/junction nearby, the Noose and Gibbet pub on the main road opposite the Arena and a Pizza Hut and MacDonalds on the Meadowhall Retail Park, the Carbrook Hall pub (the most haunted pub in Sheffield) and The Stumble Inn ("no ghosts, just spirits") a bit further back towards the M1. And, of course, the Meadowhall Shopping Complex itself. That lot should be enough for anyone. If your local Sheffield tour guide can be of any further assistance, let me know ;o) |

GregLisser and Greg Hi from Manchester! Yes, I mean "youins." There's a bar in DC that caters to Pittsburghians and in their ads they say "yinz" so that's where I got it. Hey Lisser, I didn't think you lifted up your shirt and flashed at the Kenny Chesney concert, just that the security guys (and stussy (got his name wrong but you know who I mean, the guy who said "F! F! F! . . ." about missing the visual!) got, and indicated that he was somewhat sorry to miss it. I'm guessing you won't fall for the old "security checkpoint guy" saying "lift your shirt so we can see if you're trying to smuggle something into the concert" line again. You know those guys can get those grey pants and white, short-sleeved shirts at any Sears store . . . they look real official too! HA! The response that works best for me is: "It'll cost you fifty bucks!" and they usually back off! Ha ha! |
