Ok, my thoughts: Beginning was great. Beautiful Day is okay, works as an intro, even if I’d never listen to such a remix at home. I even liked Eminem (!), I thought it was great – don’t ask me why, I guess it is meant as a joke – and we all wanted surprises, didn’t we? I found it extremely funny to look into several horrified faces of old-school hard-rock truckdriver-fans. Reaching Out: very nice, TYMD also pretty good, but the reaction was not as wild as I thought it would be. I was standing on the right, in front of Brian, (almost) directly at the end of the catwalk. Acoustic set was too early for me, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Brian’s speech and behaviour seemed to be a bit forced. He made a small mistake in LOML and also got the lyrics slightly wrong. 39 would be even better if Roger played percussion. Roger sang great, really, but still it was a bit kitschy, I can’t help it. Karaoke. Not as kitschy as Brian’s Last Horizon of course. The roof-pictures on the screen were funny, but I don’t think many people in Germany get the joke. No-one knows the story behind it. His solo seemed to be shorter, which is good. At the beginning he made some horrible noises with his new effect machine, which lead nowhere. Skip it. Magic, hhhmmm, not my song really, but it sounded groovy. Car was good, maybe very good, but not as good as in the old days. The drumming was a bit reduced. My highlight was IWIA. Absolutely freaking unbelievable. I don’t even like the song that much, I always thought it was dated, but today it sounded very very fresh, the drumming was monstrous, the guitar was just WOW, played even the solo at the very end of the song – fantastic. Also HTF, another of those dated 80s song IMO, somehow gained a new life and sounded very, very good. Bo Rhap: The Freddie-pictures were appreciated I think, it worked, the audience went nuts. All Right Now also great, the band really enjoying themselves, Roger drumming like hell, laughing and fooling about. And even the most worn-out songs in the whole universe, WWRY and WATC, obviously still work and somehow sounded fresh as if they were written yesterday. Only Brian looked a bit bored like “how should I possibly enjoy those songs the millionth time?”. To sum up: The middle was a bit boring, let Paul sing more songs, play less hits and more original material, but otherwise: Great concert. And this was my longest post ever. By far. p.s. check my profile for a picture. p.p.s. why are profile pictures that small nowadays? p.p.p.s. wegotit: It's not a big difference, but I think the attendance must have been 12,000, since it was sold out. |

Oh My....Hank...you listed 100 things you did not like but still you write "great concert"..... :P |
Fenderek 18.04.2005 03:36 |
ehm... does that mean Seagull and FLML are out of the setlist for good...? Bollocks... |

It's easier to list 100 things you don't like than 300 things you like. |

Paul has been to a doctor in Vienna, he advised to wait a few more concerts before doing more singing. Meaning, setlist will problably be changed back to normal around end of this week /weekend. |
Fenderek 18.04.2005 05:09 |
Hopefully than by the UK gigs everything will be back to normal :) |

Oh, to me it was no drawback that Roger sang 4 songs :P Actually I longed for that so much... I wish Paul every happiness but as hell I love Roger singing! It was a great thing watching Roger play and sing, he was smiling so much, but he also did some mimic while playing of course. I hope to have some great pictures from the concert and still wait for that Frankfurt one I'm going to just tomorrow. I probably was the only one to sing Say It's Not True with Roger, I guess people like Bri's solo better - but I DO NOT! ;) |
Fenderek 18.04.2005 08:57 |
I don't mind Roger singing 4 songs. That could stay :) But I do wanna hear Seagull and Feel Like akin' love again as well- those are killer tracks for me! |

Maybe just an off night? I have seen Queen 25 times and it has ranged from Amazing to a vocal disaster. Alot of that has been what the crowd is like. If the energy is good, then they ROCK. In any event they will be amazing regardless. NOTE: PLEASE, MORE PAUL ROGERS SINGING!!!!! |

So tell me, what's the story behind the roof pictures. I'm going to see Queen tomorrow in Antwerp. Is Paul's singing really that bad? :(. danny |
zaiga 19.04.2005 02:47 |
Brian played on the roof of Buckingham Palace a few years ago for the Queen's anniversary. Paul's singing is great. He has a different voice than Freddie and delivers the songs in a different way, but if you listen to it with an open mind, it's great. Have fun tomorrow in Antwerp, I know I will! |

Just want to add something to the Leipzig review. Roger seemed to be in good mood and introduced the band after Say It's Not True like that (not sure about the exact words, but close to what he said :-) : "On guitar .. from Leipzig .. ooh no, from USA actually, Mr. Danni Miranda ! And also by huge coincedence .. also from Leipzig .. Mr. Jamie Moses ! And on keyboards .. Mr. Spike Edney who said that he would very much like to be from Leipzig !! " And then Brian came on stage for his acoustic part and followed: "Well, did Roger tell you that he was also actually from Leipzig, no ? " |

Leipzig was the worst show I saw so far, the band didn't enjoy playing as much as on the previous concerts. Prague was the best one, followed closely by Vienna. But I met the whole band in Lepzig so it wasn't THAT bad after all :-) Paul forgot the lyrics in Show Must Go On THREE, yes, THREE times! Incredible :-) Off to Frankfurt... could be a good show today. |

For me it wasn't bad at all because I saw Roger for the first time in my life. I guess I was too young to see them (Queen) back in 1986 in Budapest (the only show behind Iron Curtain - where I lived actually, in Poland). Anyway it doesn't mean I know nothing on Queen - I've been Roger fan for 11 years now :))) And Queen fan for 13 years. So maybe I had smaller expectations... and I got Say It's Not True which probably was my very wish (despite the whole I'm In Love With My Car of course !!! :)))) |
