I've read the man that made it said that if he knew Freddie would be facing away from everyone he would have spent more time on his bum!!
Totally irrevelant, but interesting all the same!!

I agree...Actually I never felt the need to go on a "Freddie pilgrimage" :-). I think we don't need to go anywhere to show him we care about him...Still it would be awesome.
I've heard there's a Freddie Memorial day each year in Montreaux. I wonder what they're like.

If you go on the Freddie's Montreux website link on queenonline.com, you can at least view TONS of photos of the Annual Freddie Memorial Day events, fans, tributes, even Queen tribute bands playing there, fans placing flowers on Freddie's statue...really nice website. link
Here's a photo of Irena Sedlecka and some info. link link link
The statue, standing 3 meters high, is situated in Montreaux Switzerland overlooking lake Geneva, and was unveiled on November 25th 1996 by Montserat Caballe.
I have been to Montreux but not because of an memorial, just because I happen to be in the neigborhood!
I must say, it really is beautifull!!!!!
Also a nice statue, I saw the Mountain studios and Freddie's appartement...
It was bliss...
Although I am not a die hard fan, just someone who loves Queen. It really is beautifull there!
First of all a minor correction: it's Montreux.
For us as a band the Memorial Day was fabulous both times. And from what we've seen, the fans enjoyed themselves a whole lot and had the best of times. But hey, that is not so surprising, because they were treated with a lot of great stuff.
First time in 2003 they visited the Mountain Studio where David Richards told them all about his time with the guys. The fans went by the Duckhouse by boat, ate Freddie's favorite meal and had the chance to stroll around the boulevard as Freddie did and sat down at the statue looking at beautiful lake Geneva.
Last year in 2004 something special was added: a workshop with both David Richards and Peter Freestone. Read more about this here: link
It sounds amazing i would love to go maybe thats where i'l take my summer holidays this year.. Johnnie seen your band a few times you guys are great xx
That's really strange. I'm sure it said it was a man. Maybe it was wrong.
READ THIS!!!!!!!!I already posted it up above. She is a woman. here's is everything you need to know including a photo of her and a short biography.

Thanks Aisha!
Well, I really think that the Memorial Day and all the things organized are great if you are a die hard Queen fan. It's not some town somewhere without any connection with Queen. It's really THE town with loads of connections. Even a store there where they sell lots of Queen stuff and is known for a lot of visits by the guys and other famous artists. They have great stories to tell about the guys of Queen: link
You can look at the appartment Freddie used to live in, go and see the Duckhouse, by boat see the little shed as seen on the Made In Heaven album. Too bad that the studio has been closed down, but the outside with all the writing by fans was still there last year.
And just being there, looking over Lake Geneva and stroll along the boulevard... it's a gorgeous town.
