**Wed 12 Apr 05** TOUR EVENTUALLY TO LAND IN US Washington Times Long live the Queen 12 April 2005 The British rockers of Queen are in full swing, with singer Paul Rodgers filling in for the late Freddie Mercury. The band recently brought its new act to London's Brixton Academy, the warm-up for a 32-date tour of Europe. "It really all came about because of the Fender 50th anniversary gig that I did with Paul Rodgers," guitarist Brian May said of the reunion. "We were both so amazed at the chemistry that was going on in 'All Right Now' that suddenly it seemed blindingly obvious that there was something happening here." That special "something" will land eventually in the U.S., according to the band's publicist, but no word yet on a timeline. Erin how much do you think the tickets will cost here in the States? I'm hoping they won't be as much here as they are in Europe. I plan to see as many as I can all over!! I guess I'll be sleeping in your backyard when they come to the Carolinas!!! You can stay with me when they come to Cincinnati!! You too Dan!!!! :) |
wstüssyb 13.04.2005 13:37 |
If they do come, I have a feeling the tix will be 45-100 depending on the location, I seen worse acts charge more. |
PieterMC 13.04.2005 13:41 |

Since they have not played the US in so long they should not make the mistake of overpricing their tickets. There is a soundclip on the Queen & Paul Rodgers website talking about whether they will play America or not. link Then goto Audio / Video |

Ticket price will depend on the venue size..Don't be surprised if you see the best seats over $100. They most like will not have General Admission (standing) tickets. I think the average price for ticket is going to be around $60.00 which seems to be the going rate for "classic rock" acts. I have a feeling though I am going to have to pay a ticket tout to get a seat any where near the stage--then my cost will be $200+ per show. |
Erin 13.04.2005 13:43 |
I don't think they would be under $50.. I'm really hoping they will play places that are general admission, cause as I'm sure y'all know it's damn near impossible to get good seats for anything. And Lisser, I think we could do better than the backyard! We do have a shed..(j/k) ;-) |
Lisser 13.04.2005 13:43 |
i guess that is fair. I paid $89 for floor seats to take Cameron to Britney. I def think Queen + PR is worth more than that but I don't want to pay that!!! hahahaha!! I'm going to get the best seats available of course. I don't think it will be any problem to get them in the States. What do you think Willie poo? Also, I'll be staying with you and your wife in Michigan ok? ;) hubba hubba |
Erin 13.04.2005 13:47 |
If it's general admission, I'm sure we will all be front row. :-) |
PieterMC 13.04.2005 13:48 |
If they charge too much they will be playing to half empty venues. I can't see general admission happening myself, but you never know. I have seen crazy prices for other "classic rock" acts. 21st Century Doors - $123 The Eagles - $175 I just hope that they don't get carried away and try and charge prices like that. |
Erin 13.04.2005 13:51 |
You better save up those days off work, Pieter. That's all I have to say..;-) |
The Stealer 13.04.2005 13:56 |
I think tickets will be more difficult to obtain than we may all realise. Let's hope for a fan club or QOL pre-sale...which does not guarantee the best seats..ticket touts, radio stations, corporations (for a fee) get the best seats in the states. Hopefully there will be some "gold circle" seats that are usually in the first 20 rows for a premium fee- I would be willing to pay it- even still the promoters, touts, radio stations, etc snatched those up too. Just about everyone I know who has had good seats to any show around here obtained them from these sources- NOT on a regular sale. RUSH, KISS and AEROSMITH as an example- have very powerful or "connected" fan clubs that can somehow negotiate to with promoters and Band to make available decent seats for shows to their paying members. I don't think OIQFC will have that pull over here- you may get tickets, but not access to the best tickets. |
PieterMC 13.04.2005 14:00 |
Compliance Queen - I agree. Getting decent tickets in the US is hard. |
Erin 13.04.2005 14:02 |
Did the OIQFC really do anything in the way of helping members in Europe get tickets? |
The Stealer 13.04.2005 14:07 |
With the exchange rate my tickets for the UK shows were 110.00 dollars including fees per show. I agree I hope they don't charge more than that-since they have not toured over here in over 20 years. But as a point of reference over the past few years. KISS/Aerosmith 125 Paul McCartney 175 Def Leppard 50 Rush 62 Bad Company/Peter Frampton/Journey $65 Styx/Billy Squire $60 Duran Duran'05 $75.00 TobyKeith/Ted Nuegent $60.00 Chicago/Earth Wind Fire $70.00 But aren't we getting ahead of ourselves? We don't even know if they are even coming over here!! ;-) |
The Stealer 13.04.2005 14:14 |
Erin- OIQFC sent out a mailer to all members that gave a phone # to call for tickets on a pre-sale date. You needed your OIQFC number to order tickets over the phone. The pre-sale was one day before the Queen Online Sale which was three or 4 days before the General Public Sale (Jan 22). We wanted seats (I am old) they are really crappy seats IMHO considering we bought on the very first possible day. Thankfully- we learned of the pre-sale from wegotit and we contancted the OIQFC directly for information- which we received via email. Luckily I am on the internet enough to learn of these things ahead of time. |
PieterMC 13.04.2005 14:18 |
Very rarely do pre-sales ever help you get better seats. |
Lisser 13.04.2005 14:20 |
I think all the bands that have been mentioned in comparing ticket prices with what Queen + PR might be were all more popular in the States than Queen was. Queen was not very popular. Although many people liked WWRY, WATC, and Borhap, they did not like the band Queen. Sad but true. Erin, I'll take the shed but can you please get all spiders and snakes out first? Save them for Geeks!!!!! ;) |
Queen T 13.04.2005 14:27 |
Yes general admission would be great if there are many venues left like that over here...I think I can stand in line another 7+ hours like I did for the Paris show to be at the very front practically able to touch Brian and Paul...it was the most amazing experience. And converting Euros to Dollars, we paid well over $100 and it was more than worth it... |
The Stealer 13.04.2005 14:27 |
Most the bands I mention tour on a frequent basis and agree can command higher prices. I think a fair price would be $50.00 after all "queen" has not toured here since 1982. |
Erin 13.04.2005 14:48 |

I was a member for a long time then started having trouble getting the magazines, so I never renewed. It would be worth $29 if there was a major benefit to the pre-sale, though. (I talk like they are coming here next month or something..) |

I agree Erin...I think if we just kiss Paul's tootsies we will most likely get in on the good seats here in the States!!!! I'm in....are you? Look out IE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
wstüssyb 13.04.2005 15:43 |
The thing about us not getting good tickets might be false, compared to that in Euroland, even with a full tour, I dont see many sell outs, unless they play small clubs, I doubt with the ego they have, they are more likly to play 1/2 3/4 full venues, perosnally for me, I like to be half way back, or be able to see the stage completely, last time I got stuck in front row, I was looking up at the edge of the lighting system for 4 hours. Of course lisser any time =-) |
wstüssyb 13.04.2005 15:45 |
Also, I dont see how the fan club is gonna help us so much, I agree with Lisser, we need to be on the good side of Paul =-) I'm sure he could help us much more then the fan club in UK |

Yes...good question Erin...yorkshire pudding, shepherd's pie, fish and chips...one reason why I couldn't live over there for too long or else I'd gain about 50 lbs! But apparently our Paul and Brian and Roger keep fit by strutting around the stage..hey...whatever works, huh?! ;) |

I live in Los Angeles, and I think that the prices will be based on where they play. I think over here in the US they might play arenas that can hold about 10,000-15,000. My bet is that the max price for front row would probably about $85. Queen are getting popular again here in the states but there not that popular again yet to charge more than $100 per ticket. |
deleted user 13.04.2005 22:36 |
THE tix will be expensive 50-100 are here's why: In the US, Queen were a 70's band. All of the people who liked them in the 70's are now 40-50 years old aka middle aged. These people usually have steady jobs with steady incomes and enough extra money to buy those tix. |

I am going to at least 3 US dates and will purchase tickets whenever they become available, once the tour schedule is announced. I am looking for people who are seriously interested in attending one or more dates. As Jackie and the Queen fan club will have almost no hand in setting up hotels/meals/etc. for fan club members, it will pretty much be up to us US fans to come up with iteneraries on our own. I'm more than capable of paying for the trip and its expenses on my own, but I figure it'll be much more cost-effective and fun to split costs with someone else. We could split the hotel cost, cab rides, whatever comes up. I think it'd be a lot of damn fun to attend the concert with someone who will equally appreciate it. Otherwise, I'd take my best friend (who, slowly but surely, may be getting excited about the tour). So, anyone with a serious interest, please email me. I don't know what it's like in Europe, but in the United States I'd say that Queen are very well liked by teenagers. I teach at a high school, and many of my students have heard Queen through their parents' music collections and they love the band. So, not only would a US tour draw the 35-50 year-olds, but they would also bring their children. |

There are a lot of old die hard queen fans here, but there is a recent resurgence in New queen fans, i know I am one of them. I would pay anything to see them because ive never been able to see them live. I was six when Freddie died, so for me this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. |

Yes, I'm a high school teacher in the States too, and when I let slip that I'm flying to Birmingham to see them next month, the general consensus among my students was that I'm a lucky bastard (not their exact wording!) -- and they said the same thing when I told them I saw Bowie last year. Believe me, Queen have a VERY solid fan base among the younger crowd these days. I think a tour will do very well here -- and I'll going to as many concerts as I can possibly afford (and take off work for). Greg |
deleted user 14.04.2005 22:51 |
I have met quite a few people of the younger generation that are fans of Queen at the college I attend, too. My sister and I have also discussed seeing more than one show. Hopefully we'll be able to afford it! |
sucaine 15.04.2005 08:50 |
I have a feeling everyone might be suprised by Q+PR in the US. I think new "younger" fans that bought their first Queen album(usually Classic Queen or GH volume 1-1,000)many years after Freddie had gone are all over the place. Mix that together with the older fans from back in the day, I would bet very good turnouts, and $70 tickets or so. Dont forget that nowadays Queen's music is very well respected, which it wasnt, especially over here, back when they forgot about this country. All this, plus excellent momentum from the Europe tour...yes. Hell, I dont care, Ill sell my car if I have too... I dont think Im alone. |
Mr.Jingles 15.04.2005 10:06 |
Here's some article about how many teenagers and young adults are so dissapointed with the poor quality of today's music that they prefer to listen classic rock bands. link So expect a lot of young people to come to see Queen if they tour the States. When I went to see Paul McCartney I found that more than half of the audience were people who weren't even born when The Beatles broke up. |
Mr.Jingles 15.04.2005 10:07 |
I don't care how expensive those tickets are, I'd even become a Chippendale dancer in order to get them (not like I have anything good to show... like Chris Farley) |

Price of this tour is irrelevant to me. I was never able to see Freddie or John (born in 1978), but I'll be damned if I am going to miss Brian and Roger. No, its not the real "Queen", but its the best I will get...and its 50% Queen I guess. If I can get in the first 10 rows.... whatever... if its $1000.00, $2000.00 .... it makes no difference. I'm taking my wife and parents... and our daughter then, Makenna Taylor May, will have to stay with my in-laws for the evening. I have been real pissy about this, but my dad was like...c'mon Scott, you love Roger & Bri... go to see them if nothing else. I am in Ohio, anything within 300 miles of me, and I am there... maybe some of you will be too?? |

I've covered Merriweather for both Baltimore Magazine and The Business Monthly (a Columbia Publication). The General Manager Jean Parker is so nice that she has let me go there many times over the years, early in the day, before the gates open...and she lets me take personal photos of the footbridge over the pond with lilly pads and lotus blossoms. And of the entire amphitheater. I once got to go on the stage about 7:00 AM!!!!in the morning for Lynyrd Skynyrd's soundcheck when the bus got there, and I stood on the stage with the roadies looking out at the empty theater. I have been backstage ALOT...about 4 times with The Allman Brothers Band, and The Steve Miller Band who were touring with....The Paul Rodgers Band...I didn't meet Paul..but I met and got the autograph of his guitarist at the time...Neal Schon!!!! and had dinner backstage!!!! We just have one little thorn in me seeing Queen+Paul Rodgers when and if they come here...you know us music journalists, musicians...well alot of us have day jobs...I just got downsized from my day job.....whoops! So my unemployment kicks in this week. That ought to buy me the loaf of bread I've always dreamed of! (sarcasm) |

I live 10 min south of Cincinnati so I'll be at any concert near there and I plan to travel to some other locations as well. I'll also be sleeping in Erin's shed if they come near her place! If they play in Cincinnati, I have room for some other fans!!! See you all there!!!! |
Queen T 18.04.2005 11:30 |
I'll be at any concert in/near the Chicago area and surrounding larger cities like St. Louis, Indy, any main city in Ohio (I'll come hang with you Lisser!) |
Lisser 18.04.2005 18:06 |
Sounds good to me!!! I can't wait! |
Haystacks Calhoun 18.04.2005 19:37 |
I will be anywhere close to Cincinnati...... |

I'd pay around $200 for a Queen ticket -- got relatives from St Louis to Connecticut to crash on a couch, and Queen friends in between. Anyway, last September I road-tripped to see my other muscial love, Devo, at a 1000+ capacity show at the Riveria Theater in Chicago. Tickets started at 38.50, got mine for $88 on E-bay auction three weeks before the gig 9/24 (it was sold out as of 8/12/04!) and people on the street were willingly paying $300 to scalpers. It's true! So be prepared for almost anything and I hope to see yas at Breakthru, hopefully we'll have some dates to plan around... |

Read this at alt.music.queen today: "Anyway, I've got a cousin who is working in Vegas at the Paris hotel and has worked a little with the We Will Rock You play staff. He told me that word there is that Paul Rodgers and Queen are thinking about not doing the US as a tour now. He's heard that they're looking at doing a gig or two in Vegas in conjunction with the play one of the last two weekends in August -- Either Aug 20th or 26th, and will decide from there whether they're going to tour a little later or not. I heard that one of the Queen guys is getting reluctant to be on tour that long for one thing." |
wstüssyb 20.04.2005 20:39 |
Figures. If they do that, only a select few ppl will be able to go, I dont feel like ass kissing for something like that. |
chain_me_up 20.04.2005 20:59 |
Hmm... If that report is based on fact, I'm guessing they are talking about Brian. He seems to have been the one worried about how the tour would affect his life - particularly going to the US where it's not easy to pop back home. If I'm right, lets hope Roger can pull something out of the bag again - like another premature announcement (!) - to persuade him otherwise. Maybe though they just aren't getting such an enthusiastic response from the US promoters as they got from the European ones. |
Queen T 20.04.2005 21:10 |
I know obviously they have every right to change their minds, but what do you guys think? Do you believe that quote about the cousin who works with the WWRY people in Vegas about one member getting cold feet about it? I mean it's been announced to VH1, on Brian's site, and on that pre-tour interview on the Q+PR site that it was so very likely... I'm not sure what to think? Anyone??? |
GregM 21.04.2005 07:16 |
This bothers me, although I don't give it much credit due to its second (or third) hand nature. Even if a BIG tour isn't something the guys are particularly enthusiastic about, why not play two weeks' worth of gigs in the major cities? That's better than nothing, and wouldn't require much of a commitment, time-wise. Let's keep hoping...Why don't a few of us email Brian himself, too, and ask? He's wonderful about replying, most of the time. Greg |
Erin 21.04.2005 08:53 |
Hmm...and I was starting to get slightly optimistic. Let's just hope this person was full of crap. I find it concerning that there has been no mention at all of any dates. Wish I'd been able to pop overseas like some of you guys..:-/ We gotta keep hope alive, though! ;-) |
GregM 21.04.2005 09:09 |
Erin, I'm going to see them in Birmingham, but I STILL won't feel totally comfortable until I'm actually IN Birmingham...I'm paranoid about making my connecting flight, of delays, etc...So yes, I'm going, but I'm still nervous! And I'd feel much less nervous if I knew they were coming to the US, just in case something doesn't work out. And, hell, I want to see them as many times as possible. Greg |
Queen T 21.04.2005 09:15 |
Greg and Erin...I know exactly how you're feeling!!! I was beginning to get exciting from all those reports about them ending up here in the fall and then when I read that last night about them being doubtful I got kind of down...hopefully that individual was full of crap. You're right Greg, just a 2-3 week tour of the major cities would be absolutely stellar...they don't need to go too crazy over here...maybe we should e-mail Brian...what do you think? |
GregM 21.04.2005 09:21 |
I think it would be a good idea, at least to get an idea of what we can expect. Brian's usually wonderful about replying (although the tour is obviously eating up much of his time!), so I'd imagine at least one of us will get a response. It might be a good idea to ask about the possibility of a short tour, at the very least. Let's get to it and see what we can find out! Greg |
Queen T 21.04.2005 09:39 |
Right on! This afternoon I shall send out my e-mail to him then! |
Erin 21.04.2005 09:45 |
I totally don't expect some 20 city tour or anything. I don't expect them to come to SC..possibly Atlanta or Charlotte.. I'll travel, I have no problem with that. Just give us SOMETHING to go on! :-) Greg, I'm sure the flights will turn out fine. You are sooo lucky..:-) I did my crazy travelling overseas thing to see Brian and Roger on their solo tours, but now that's not feasible. So..I'll cross my fingers...and toes.. |
Knute 21.04.2005 09:52 |
They gotta come here! They gotta close that karmic circle and see that America still loves them damnit! |
GregM 21.04.2005 10:23 |
Thanks, Erin! I hope you're right. Seeing them would mean so much to me. I'm going to send a nice email to Brian later this afternoon and hope for the best...maybe a US tour update or something of the kind. Here's hoping! Greg |
Queen T 21.04.2005 13:30 |
Amen, Knute!!! |
Queen T 21.04.2005 14:57 |
I just sent Brian a nice e-mail...quoting that snippet of information that upset us a little last night...I did suggest that if a long tour wasn't possible, how about a few gigs in the major US cities like Greg mentioned. If I hear anything, I will surely keep you all posted... |

you guys are going to age prematurely by getting all worked up.. i am sure you will have plenty of notice if something is going to come our way... worrying about it now does nothing |
Queen T 21.04.2005 17:02 |
Really? Considering the enormous excitement and reception regarding the European leg of the tour (and all the sell outs!) why wouldn't they come over here for a few main gigs? |
Queen T 21.04.2005 17:04 |
OK Iron Eagle...you sound just like my husband! Maybe I should take your advice...it's just such a big event that could take place and my personality doesn't allow me to rest easy!!!...but I will try... |
iron eagle 21.04.2005 17:19 |
Hammer i dont mean to come across ugly so hopefully no one is taking it that way lots of rumours-lots of assumptions lots of 'people in the know' and so on history shows us -- from the LA event--even to Vegas-- they work to their own drum beat... and most of the time *hints* by them and others go unheeded... or get analyzed to death.. if its going to happen, they are going to do it right-- and we got to give them the time and space to work their magic-- and they will give us plenty of time to figure out how to be there... i for one say...save save save.... one never knows |
Queen T 21.04.2005 17:25 |
Iron Eagle...you didn't come across that way at all...in fact, it's nice to read what you've wrote because you're right and it makes me feel better! It's all heresay and talk through the grapevine...they'll do it when they're ready...and I'll be here waiting! :) |
Queen T 21.04.2005 17:27 |
Eagle...are you saying "save, save, save" for the concerts if/when they come? |
iron eagle 21.04.2005 17:42 |
one must be ready |

I really hope they come to the U.S . I have my fingers crossed for a show in Boston, NY or Providence. If they play at any of those locations you bet your ass i'll be in the front row. |
GregM 21.04.2005 19:32 |
I can't imagine them coming to the US and NOT playing NYC, so that would be very likely, in my book. Greg |

I can't help it if the thought of seeing Brian and Roger on the same stage gets me tingly all over..*LOL* |

Home Talk Freddie Multimedia Resources Shop Members Check this out... US Tour confirmation soon... Various official sources are reporting that confirmation of a US tour will be soon. Hopefully that means in a few weeks (at most) we will know WHEN Queen+ will be playing in North America. Stay tuned. Submitted by: Richard Orchard |
