MOJO just confirmed:
The last Queen show of the tour will NOT be in the Goffert Park in Nijmegen but in the Gelredome in Arnhem. Date and time stay the same.
Don't know bout you guys... But I'm not amused by this. Nijmegen open air would have been amazing, Gelredome sucks big time! >:-(
Well I saw Paul McCartney in the Geldrdome and I was quit impressed bij the quality of the sound there. The only thing I'm sad about is that I never seen the Goffertpark Or gottenpark as they called it
Depends on where you are standing/sitting, but generally pretty awefull (even worse then Ahoy)
Btw: No, this is NOT a stadium! It's an indoors hall (though pretty big). Dunno for sure if it is possible there to open the roof, but anyway for the Queen show the roof will be closed!! (As said by Gelredome)
Okay, but they're are not going to open it during the Queen show, says Gelredome. :-(
("omdat de show van Queen binnen beter tot zijn recht komt". Tsss....)
NO It has nothing to do with getting the sound quality better it has everything to do with the surrounding houses and peoples. It simply getting to noisy if the roof was open at the concerts over there. THat is why the regulation says that all concerts at the Gelredome should have the roof closed. And no it isn't a hall it is a soccerstadium with multiple possibilities. And the sound can be rather good as I found out at the Macca concert 2 years ago
I think we might have different definitions of what a 'stadium' is... ;-)
To me a stadium is a big, oval thing without a roof (Wembley, the new thing in Koln) and Gelredome inside (during concerts) is a square, conrete hall.
And I did not say anything about the soundquality nor surrounding houses in relationship to the roof. I was just citing what Gelredome themselves say. 'That the show was moved to Gelredome because Queen found that their show is better experienced indoors'. Which is of course bollocks, btw!! The only reason for this can be that the show was not selling very well. Proving it themselves: Gelredome has a capacity almost (VERY roughly ;-) half the Goffert Park has. And even now in Gelredome, the show is not sold out yet.
Anyway, no matter.
I find it a shitty place for a concert - especially when you thought you were going to be in a great summer festival-like atmosphere!! It would have been the perfect ending of my personal Queen-tour...
Jeron, end your Queen tour in Koln =-) or come to the states for 1 show.
I would personally love to see that show, I have a feeling it might be the best one on the tour.
Well, I'm truly disappointed mainly because of the atmosphere-thing. That festival-like feeling to finish it off was a thing I realy looked forward to!
(And it would make my tour-experience complete: the first show in a very small venue, then a number of large hall shows in between and finish it all with a big outdoor spektacle which on top off it all even is the final night of the tour)
But that doesn't mean I'm not going! They can't do the last show of the tour without me! ;-)))
I have the same feeling as Jeroen has: a festival styled concert would be a great (perfect) way to end my queen tour..plus: most recent shows given in goffertpark are broadcast by radio 3fm : a soundboard recording from the last show (and it's in holland) would be a very nice bonus.
But...maybe cologne or even hyde park is an option.. bye bye 2 week summer holiday to Italy ot whatever
