Taylor-Mayed 09.04.2005 16:33 |
I think that the Coronation Street lot may actually achieve the awesome feat of making bigger arses of themselves than the EastEnders cast when they did exactly the same thing for Children in Need a few years back. |

Toyah Wilcox... The horror, the horror... And did Heather Small's backing singers not realise they actually had to sing as well as shuffle about a bit? |
rachael mae. 09.04.2005 16:50 |
Woah, Toyah Wilcox sucks lol |
John S Stuart 09.04.2005 16:51 |
If you have seen this program - do you think that the Mel C version of "One Vision" was REALLY live, or was the whole thing (band included) was mimed? I thought that the "backing band" sounded very like the "Karaoke Greatest Hits", which they all mimed to, but then again, perhaps the band played along to the Karaoke backing tapes. Any ideas? |
sbazb 09.04.2005 16:53 |
Absolutely dire! The whole thing. No one will ever be able to do a Freddie - especially bloody Toyah Wilcox. How can they all stand there making all those magnificent Queen songs sounds so drab and uninspiring??!! And they say they are Queen fans - well leave well alone then! |
Taylor-Mayed 09.04.2005 16:55 |
All pre-recorded and ready for the tie-in CD release, I suppose. |

Queen Mania: Unreleased, ITV, Queen Mania ITV 9 April 2005, Queen Tribute show introduced by Zoe Ball. One Vision (Mel C), Barcelona (Leslie Garret & G4), I Want To Break Free (Corrie Queens), Somebody To Love (Heather Small), Don’t Stop Me Now (Toya Wilcox), Too Much Love Will Kill You (Myleene Klass), Who Wants To Live Forever (Russell Watson), You’re My Best Friend (Tony Christie), Bohemian Rhapsody (G4) So who was the best (of a bad bunch) version? Poor Freddie is now facing Australia! As for the New CD "Now That's What I Call Underwhelming!" |
Brimon 09.04.2005 17:26 |
I thought Leslie Garret & G4 were very good. On the whole I thought it was a fun show and I really enjoyed it. |
Professor Snowy 09.04.2005 17:30 |
Were they miming? - I think so! In the Russell Watson rendition of WWTLF, the lead guitar was blatantly not plugged in! |

Smoggy 09.04.2005 17:52 |
In one corner of heaven, Freddie is demanding to be let back on earth to show those talentless 'singers' how a queen song should be sang. They truly murdered every number |
leia 09.04.2005 18:00 |
Ok, let's get this sorted. The song selection was bloody awful... I mean Mel C being given One Vision, Tony Christie - You're My Best Friend and worst of all was Toyah with Don't Stop Me Now. I had to shut my eyes while watching to cut out the image of Freddie and the lads performing the songs. Why wasn't Russell Watson asked to join in on Bo Rap when he'd covered it before G4, why wasn't he asked to do Barcalona?? I mean he's song that at Old Trafford and the Nou Camp in 99 to great effect. Toyah should have been give something from either Hot Space or The Game, which was around her time of pop stardum. Tony Christie should have been shown the way to the exit after his first verse of YMBF. Credit to Heather Small, Russell Watson and Lesley Garratt. They did well with what they were asked to do, the backing for Heather Small wasn't good, but she performed that song as well as George Michael. As for G4 they are doing Maddona Mania next week, WHY???? The little blond one sounds like he has a helium balloon fed to his vocals when singing. My mum was even crying at how bad they were. It was noticable, that at the end of Bo Rap when the audience joined in that some of them were laughing at the performance. Either something was going on in the studio elsewhere or G4 were that bad. The Coronation Street lads could have smiled at least. None of them looked happy, which upset me more than the attempt at the song. Clearly they didn't want to be doing that, and were well paid for it. The last question though, if doing a tribute to Queen, some songs can't be left out... Simple story. It's nice for us fans to want "other songs", but it's obvious that WWRY and WATC should always be included. Where were they? Why didn't they ask some "known" Queen fans to do the show?? This could have been, should have been much, much better. |
Queen& 09.04.2005 18:10 |
itv need to sort there facs out there making out freddie wrote everything on this documentry on itv2 there was 3 other members |

i enjoyed g4 + garret,(barcelona) but not one person got any where near the vocals of freddie!! russel watson struggled with who wants to live forever,, but it was nice to hear queens music i suppose, that roland rivron needs a fucking heavy slap for his constant piss take out of freddie, long live queen long live freddie!!:))) |
hoop-didi-didi 09.04.2005 18:33 |
all disasterous renditions except for a rather beautiful Barcelona. |
zino 09.04.2005 19:03 |
Well, Mylene Klass was the only one who gave a credible performance - but otherwise, it was utter dreck and ITV should fall on their swords. By the way, what was with the plinky plonky karaoke backing tracks? Shite beyond belief... |
kyassor 09.04.2005 19:08 |
2nd bit on ITV2 - better than the ITV1 bit but the guests were pathetic. Most had heard of Freddie but that was it - most thought Freddie wrote everything !!!! Some decent comments but generally embarrassing that anyone appearing on a programme called Queen Mania can know so little - what some people do for fame ! The biggest waste of space was someone called 'Anthony Cotton' who according to the caption is from 'Coronation Street' - I know more about him that he knows about Queen ... and all I know is his name & the programme he appears in as it was on the show - what a pathetic 'I want to be on TV at any cost' he was - based on his knowl;edge of Queen,, I'm an expert on every subject in the world ever. He ought to save himself for something he knows about .... but maybe he thinks that will never happen |
Mr Mercury 09.04.2005 19:48 |
zino wrote: Well, Mylene Klass was the only one who gave a credible performanceI agree - and she looks a lot better than she did when she was with Hear'say (remember them? Nah didnt think so). What also pains me is, and I say this as a Toyah Wilcox fan of old, her performance was shite. G4 were a close second - I have never liked that lot. |

absolute crap they wrecked some amazing songs last night especially mel c and toyah wilcox were particularly bad |
wesi72 10.04.2005 05:58 |
I'm not usually one to critisize others efforts, but it was bloody awful! Myleen Klass was the best, but every time they put the real deal on, it just showed up the rest of them. They'd have been better off showing the Milton Keynes video. |
Killer_Queenie 10.04.2005 06:11 |
ITV2's was only slightly easier to listen to, especially, as kyassor said, when they kept assuming that Freddie wrote everything! Including that muppet from G4 saying how WWTBF, TSMGO and WWTLF were Freddie's lyrics. No credit given to Bri, John and Roger for being brilliant songwriters in their own right - which imho is a major component as to why Queen are so brilliant. And I won't mention Toyah's singing :| |

correction - IWTBF =) |
dannyboy 10.04.2005 09:56 |
The show was so horrific I am still reeling, but my question is. The band must have given their permission for this bunch of "celebrities" to murder their songs. WHY DID THEY ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN? |

A Kareoke singer could have done a better job of Don't Stop Me Now than what Toyah Wilcox did with it. It was absolutelt awful. Did she think that by wearing a short skirt above the camera that it might take the attention away from what she was singing? I didn't think that Mel C was too bad on One Vision. At least she put some energy into the performance. Mylene Klass did a good job of TMLWKY on the piano. As for the others? Oh dear! Would Tony Christie have performed if it wasn't for Comic Relief? NO. The Corrie cast doing IWTBF showed that none of them could sing a note between them. They must have watched the original a few times though as they got some of the moves right. The performance of BoRap by G4 was shocking. Get Bad News to do it. They aren't even real musicians but at least they would have had the energy and sense of humour to perform it. The other reason that they all performed will no doubt have been because they are cheap. Same as the "Celebrities" interviewed about how tehy love Queen. They should have got people who really care about Queen's music and are actually famous. Hopefully the new Hollywood Records produced tribute album will show them how to do it. Another thought is they could have had a tribute band like Magic or Miracle to do it. Just wondering were any QueenZoners actually at the recording? |
Freda 10.04.2005 15:44 |
It was more like an insult to Queen than a tribute- Mel C was the only one who did a fair rendition of one of their songs- the others- well OMG I thought it couldnt get worse then Toyah Wilcox- then Tony Christie sang- Oh the Pain- the Pain |
Lord Blackadder 10.04.2005 16:58 |
I thought Barcelona wasn't to bad. But it wasn't G4 that made it ok. I think what made the songs really bad was the fact that the drums sounded like shite. All they ahd to do was get a live band in there and they would have been fine. Even a shit vocal wouldve sounded ok with a nice LIVE song. |
Freda 10.04.2005 19:18 |
Actually I was quite shocked with Toyah Wilcox, I remember her from the late 70's/early 80's(cant quite remember which) and she was quite good- her song 'Its a Mystery' I think went to number 1. But in Barcelona G4 went off Key at times quite badly- as did almost everyone- and the backing group in 'Need somebody to love' seemed to forget their lines. The best part was the beginning with the audience singing and clapping 'We Will Rock YOu' |
QUEEN_ROCKS_FOREVER 11.04.2005 06:45 |
Oh good lord i cant beleive what a load of shite queen mania was why oh why did they have toyah singing dont stop me now and g4 just make a disgrace to bohemian rhapsody i was crying in the first ten minutes |
