In a few words, Rush Limbaugh hates anyone who is not white, conservative, christian, republican, or straight. Perhaps you should put Hitler on your list. |

Admiral James Stockdale He was in a POW camp for 7 1/2 years, and he refused to take part in propaganda broadcasts, to the point where when they planned to film one of them he bashed himself in the face with a stool to disfigure himself. Then to prove that he was not afraid to die for his fellow prisoners he slit his wrists with a shard of glass... This convinced the North Vietnamese to lay off the POWs in the Hanoi Hilton. This is also what Stockdale got the Medal of Honor for. He was also a Naval Academy graduate! And earned four Silver Stars. |

i think i will add to my list... lance armstrong--for what hes endured and how he overcame, great over all story. and why i didnt say this before..anne frank i visited her hiding area in amstradam last month and i can honestly say, that her story was one that was both sad and full of courage. they say that in order to understands ones struggle, one needs to walk in their steps. well, i didnt walk in her steps, but i walked where she stepped, and i can honestly say that the situation that she and the others indured would be one that would break most peoples spirits. i say, may we always remember heros like her and the others who hid, and may we never get the oppertunity to ever have to look for this type of hero again. |

what gets me is how you all think a hero is someone big, popular, famous just cos of films or was boxing champ etc etc! For me i have on definition of a hero:- Someone who can/saves lives for a living! to me thats a hero! so for me, someone who dishes nearly all his hard earned cash away to charity, puts pressure on governments to take immediate action. its not one person its many, two key ones being Bob Geldof and Nelson Mandela, the rest are the worlds population who help everyday for those who need it! |

I doubt he gives barrels of money to charities, but character is not all about massive monetary donations, and Jeff Meckstroth (never heard of him? I know) has certainly been a source of massive personal inspiration to me. It's a rare pro at anything who allows devotees of the game/sport to watch him at such a personal distance, and most of us in the world of duplicate bridge would give an arm and a leg to watch him play. |

Well so is Bono's greatness exaggerated, but there are still many many people who see him (I don't though), as well as Nelson Mandela, a hero in the world today. It's because they are well known and get quite a lot of publicity on their efforts to improve some things in this world. And this hero issue is always a matter of opinion, anyway.. :) |
