"By the way, I was also able to confirm with Universal that a Flash Gordon: Special Edition is currently in production. No specs or release information is available yet, but it's good to know that the 80s sci-fi/camp classic is finally getting the long-awaited attention it deserves on DVD. We'll post more as soon as we hear anything."
Good news!
I've got the French one. There's nothing special about the special edition. Rather than giving insights into the film, the director spends two-thirds of the audio commentary talking about the Bush administration and the Iraq invasion. Just a tad dated. Not a commentary for the ages. The other extras were negligible. A trailer maybe? And I already had the soundtrack CD. Shocking, no?

This is in regards to an all new DVD for the US.
All new material would be terrific. The French one was sorely lacking. Where's it been confirmed that its not just a rehash of the French release? I'd be interested in reading about that.
