Well, I just have to say something here. It's a bit unusual for me to post these kind of topics, but here I go. I was looking on eBay for Eminem's album "Encore" on vinyl LP (and yes, I did find a copy cheap), and I saw an auction for the single that Eminem's "Like Toy Soldiers" sampled, called "Toy Soldiers" by Martika. Of course, since I liked the chorus of "Like Toy Soldiers", I just HAD to download it! So I did, and I must say, I'm really addicted to this song (which is ironic, because this is a song about drugs). Honestly, I can't get enough of it. Now I've got Martika's best of compilation CD also ordered on eBay now. My question for you guys is: how many of you guys have started listening to certain popular songs from the 1980's and onwards, recently, and find that you really like these songs? |

I don't like rap,or Emminem, but I like the song Rich Girl. I don't like Gwen Stefani as mush as Queen though. |

I've started liking The Smashing Pumpkins. I've had their greatest hits album but never listened to it for awhile, but I just picked it up one day and realized that I like them a lot! So I bought Siamese Dream and I loved it on first listen, and now I've been hunting down everything else from them. I've also been downloading a bunch of eighties songs - Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners, Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode, Take On Me by A-Ha, etc. They're great in an incredibly cheesy way. :) |

I like "Take On Me" by A-Ha too. I've had that song for years |

I played pool once with the guys( and 1 chick, the ever sexy bass player) from Smashing pumpkins back in 94 in Chicago, a Friend took me up to Chi land for a weekend of clubs, I never knew who they were, told me later about them. Yes I love so many Mega hits from the 80's, Starship, Cory Hart, Billy Idol and more, and Ace of Base from the 90's, My Napster is filled with'em. |
Bob The Shrek 28.03.2005 00:33 |
I blindly stumbled my way through the 80's because my head was firmly stuck up the arse of 70's rock. |

Isn't classic and 80's an oxymoron. Although I do like that cheesey Take Me On. Nena is a guilty pleasure too. Today's music ain't got the same soul Give me that old time rock n roll ... yes I'm mostly stuck in the seventies (minus the Brady Bunch fashion of course). |
Banquo 28.03.2005 03:36 |
I feel really old now because the 80's was really my decade for getting into music. The 80's cannot be simply dismissed for being crap when they produced the Smiths. |

Whenever I hear 80's music, I think of playing Barbies and my teenage sister locking me out of her room.. |

So I can So I can.......... I'm afraid that the 80s were filled with Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Prince, and Wham! But I fondly remember hearing Hall and Oates, Billy Joel, Ozzy, Journey, etc blaring from my older brother's room. I wish I could go back to the 80s!!!!! |

For those who actually grew up 80s it's more a matter of remembering and in some cases re-discovering old songs that they had forgotten. I for once was able to discover old school R&B, Funk and Soul from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I found it to be a fascinating genre especially coming from Motown artists like Stevie Wonder. |

"White wedding" from Billy Idol and "Take on me" from A-ha are really great songs. I love all that old stuff... Lately discovered something from 70's, that's Velvet Underground. I can't believe I didn't know them earlier, cuz almost all the songs I've listened to I simply LOVED! Begining with "I'll be Your Mirror", "Candy Says", "After Hours", "I'm sticking with you" (the real beauty of this song is almost in the end of it), "Stephanie Says", "Ride Into The Sun" and so on and on... |

I love 80s pop. I grew up on it. Lately I have been listening to a radio show that has an hour of all 90s songs. |

I rediscovered Warren Zevon's "The French Inhaler" quite recently. Great stuff. |

I never grow tired of anything by Heart from their classic rock 70's period to their power ballad 80's period. But my favorite is "Love Alive" and "Dog And Butterfly". Also I LOVE The Allman Brothers Band's "Melissa" Janet Jackson's "Love Will Never Do" and "When I Think Of You" Prince's "Diamonds and Pearls" Aretha Franklin duet with George Michael "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" George Michael's "Freedom" Brian Ferry's "Don't Stop The Dance" and "Slave To Love" Simple Minds' "Alive and Kicking" Eric Clapton's "The Core", "Walk Away", "Forever Man", "She's Waiting" |

One of our local FM radio stations just had a totally awesome 80's weekend over the whole Easter break. My hubby and I had a trip down memory lane listening to songs we hadn't heard since we were teenagers. Songs from Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, Thompson Twins, Huey Lewis & The News, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, Wham, Boy George - the list was endless and totally enjoyable!! Its not only the 80's music that's making a come back but the fashion as well!! My 17 year old daughter paraded some new clothes to me the other week and I just kept saying "that's 80's" the whole time. Unfortunately, whilst I love those clothes, I'm too old a fart to wear them now and my mother wouldn't let me wear them when I was a teenager - sucks!!!!!! |

Michael Jackson's "Bad" - great album, scary singer |

Heart faded fast in the 80's. 70's Heart were the best: Mistral wind, Soul of the Sea, Devil Delight, Sylvan Song / Dream of the Archer etc Also - Warren Zevon's Sentimental Hygiene was a great 80's album. ditto for Joe Walsh's The Confessor |
inu-liger 29.03.2005 00:48 |
I know this isn't quite 1980's, as this one was released in 1979, but Pink Floyd's "The Wall" makes for a great listen, especially on vinyl! One of my favourite to listen to on LP |
Mrs.Taylor 29.03.2005 16:40 |
LOL @ Bob The 80's totally rocked and even as I type this I'm listening to A-ha's Greatest Hits; their Hunting High and Low album is a classic. In fact yesterday's playlist was Simple Minds Greatest Hits, U2 Singles 1980-1990 and Electric Dreams which is a double CD of 80's pop synth anthems. I have an extensive collection of 80's compilations and the Now....Millennium Series. On the subject of the 80's as well, I see from next week's TV guide that there's a new "Reborn in the USA-type" show coming on ITV1 where past pop stars get another crack at fame and face a public vote. Sad but apparently true. |

Its thanks to one of Amanda's fave bands (No Doubt) that I rediscovered TalkTalk's "Its My Life" - cracking song |

I just re-discovered Lose Yourself by Eminem. I'm definitely not a rap fan, but I loved this song when it came out a couple years ago. But I had some money on Itunes, so I bought it again, and it's a great song. I guess Brian's got the same idea, too, since the lyrics are in his Soapbox and the starter of their shows! |

Where does Eminem fit into the 1980's, aside from having been alive and much younger then (but not known either)? |

Self righteous, self important, depressing, patronising drivel. |
